I need to give ChuChu Rocket a try. It's been on my shelf for a while and I've never got round to playing it. Good review and I'm looking forward to seeing the future of this series
Man, in the summer of 2000, I played this game online all the time. I hadn't played PC games since the early 90's, so being able to play against other people VIA THE INTERNET was mind-blowing.
ah jealous! bummed i missed out on the advent of online consoles, my first exposure was the PS2 at a friends with FFXI and back then i sort of saw it as heresy, haha! thanks for popping over!
Avalanche Reviews yeah they definitely got their marketing mileage out of CCR, that's for sure. Definitely worth checking out if you're into puzzle games though!
+Game vs Game I did play it and I liked it a lot, but for some weird reason the game wouldn't let me play it after level 15 of the puzzle mode. About the gameplay... it played very similar to your description of the second control scheme on the GBA, you would tap an arrow, then you would swipe in the direction you wanted the arrow to point. I think it also had online capability but I never used it, so I can't say a lot about that, but the local multiplayer was still a lot of fun. It's a shame that it's no longer on the app store, because it was the easiest (and probably cheapest) way to play the game.
Adan Vargas huh that's strange, wonder why the later levels were locked out. that is a bummer Sega pulled it (and a ton of others it looks like), but at least there's the dreamcast and gba to fall back on haha
great vid, i didnt even know that they ported chuchu rocket to the gba. I remember playing this quite a bit on the Dreamcast but not getting really far as I am terrible at puzzle games.
The Dali Popka thanks Popka! i've got a good list of games/ports i'd like to do, and a few suggestions already of others to check out, so i think i can make something work from it :)
This is a game I've been needing to complete my collection. It looks really good both versions. They both aren't too pricy on ebay so if I got the DC version I'd most likely have this one tag along. Great video by the way :)
Logan Romkey@UltraGameRoom Thanks man, glad you enjoyed. yeah both are super reasonable. i bought my Dreamcast one factory sealed for $5. nice to have a flawless disc of an older game!
I had the gameboy version. :) I thought I was connected to the internet on a gameboy in the puzzles bit, and in the Help corner and downloads center. :) I thought my puzzles and custom characters were available to other players of the game. :)
One thing that could be a plus for the gba version is that you can play it on your tv with the gamecube gameboy adapter and you can take it on the road. The dreamcast you can pretty much only play at home. This game looks like the type of puzzle game that i would love. I bought a dreamcast a few years ago and haven't played it much but i really need to start picking up some of these good games like chu chu rocket. It still amazes me how far ahead of its time the dreamcast was with a well functioning online multiplayer aspect to a lot of its games and yet it still failed. I kind of wish i got one back in the day instead of my ps2. That's super awesome that you can play multiplayer on the gba with only one copy of the game. I never knew of any games that would allow that. Atleast its one instance of the game industry not being greedy and forcing you and your friends to buy extra copies lol. Now days most games don't even let you do same screen multiplayer or coop so you're forced to buy two copies of the game and play over the internet.
Comparison of console vs portable is definitely interesting. Might be interesting to see Kirby's Adventure vs Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland or Paperboy.
I Only had a Gameboy because of my parents. I am Happy that someone shows that not all portable games were total crap. Nice review. I am looking forward to the next one
Nice spin on the usual format man. It's a subject worth looking into for sure. Liked that you spent a little more time on the music comparison. Gargoyle's Quest 2 could be a good one to compare. Super Mario Bros vs Super Mario Bros Deluxe would be an awesome oen too. I actually reckon the Deluxe version is one of the best game remakes ever. More recently Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii and new 3DS would be a good one to look at, although there's probably a bunch of videos on that.
Mellow Gaming Thanks man, glad you enjoyed. I've needed to get out of the rut of relying on the background music to give a taste of the music! you know, I'm pretty certain I had Super Mario Bros. Deluxe at some point, but i have no idea what happened to it. i'll have to track it down and check it out! Xenoblade would be NUTS! haha, it's such a huge game. plus i don't have a new 3ds... at least not yet ;) thanks again for watching!
Yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles would be such a headache. And I bet the moment you'd finish it a Wii U HD remake gets announced. I've still got my Mario Bros Deluxe. Was playign it a while ago on my Retron 5. It's so weird seeing Mario Bros in full screen but with the GBC game's cropped screen size. Such an interesting port too because of just how much content is in there, but it also has a few compromises.
Dat Game Boy in the background tho. I also have the original model. But why do the screens always look greener then mine on UA-cam? The green tint gives it a retro-ey charm. Mine ain't green any more. Is that normal. Do they start fading over time?
Crippled Gamer not sure, to be honest. could be later production runs? that one is my original i got for birthday/christmas like '89 or '90. could also just be the reflection from my lights.
The GBA port of Space Channel 5 is almost identical, minor the downgraded graphics and missing audio during cutscenes of course, both games are almost identical gameplay wise. Crazy Taxi on GBA was okay, it was a little slower and lacked some levels from Crazy Box, a nice handheld port nonetheless. Jet Set Radio on the GBA on the other hand wasn't anywhere near as good as the original Dreamcast version. Finally there's Super Monkey Ball, while I think the NGage port was better, being an outdated handheld that most people have zero access to, I'll say the GBA port is next in the list and it's quite faithful to the Gamecube version in many ways. I can also suggest Rockman Battle and Fighters on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, only in Japan, being a port of both Megaman Arcade titles which were released in Megaman Anniversary Collection, again quite faithful. Less we forget the obvious Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed on 3DS and Vita being faithful to the console versions.
I've come from the future to say that the online capabilities have been restored thanks to the community and to learn more about this go to dreamcast live
Cool idea for the series. I would love to see Chrono Trigger SNES vs Nintendo DS. I know it's a lot of work, but it's the best game ever so it should be fun. And the ps1 version sucks!
Console Wars haha chrono was one of the games that got me thinking really about version differences, so you could definitely see it show up here in the future. and yes the PS1 version sucks!
ho god i forgot this one! i still have it with my dreamcast! sega should do it on phones, online multiplayer will fit so well,it was working with a 33k modem and old hardware, why it will not work now? and what about a pso rerelease
Game vs Game thx i see it was just a hd remake of the gba one with no online multiplayer and dreamcast sound...another game made by sega the wrong way damn.
Played the game for the first time recently, it was a interesting concept but it got boring after a while and I never played it again after that. Also, great review.
Vinicius Fernandes ah that's a bummer you found it boring, it's definitely a slower paced game focusing more on the challenge than action, but multiplayer is where the action is! but no matter, every game isn't for every person, glad you at least gave it a shot and enjoyed the vid none the less! :)
Great & Excellent series mate. I've just subscribed because of this one video and I hope you got more to look forward to. GBA version is better then the Dreamcast version in every possible way except for graphics, and the IOS / Android version (although very inntutive with it's touch screen) is NOT Multiplayer. :(
Adan Vargas haven't played it myself, honestly. chose to focus on the physical game since that's really what i'm into, i could have at least mentioned it though, oversight on my part. it doesn't look like it's even available anymore, have you played it?
There are a lot of PS1 and N64 games that good GBC ports. Gex, Rayman, Oddworld, V-rally, Armorines: Project Swarm, Croc and more. That would be interesting. Another one I wanted to suggest for awhile: Mega Man X vs Megaman Xtreme vs Maverick Hunter. Another three way Mega Man comparison.
Ryuma King nice, Rayman would fit in nicely with Rayman 2 when I cover that. i've wanted to do MMX v Maverick Hunter since the first Mega Man video. haven't played any of Xtreme though, i'll have to find it and check it out! thanks for all the suggestions!
I need to give ChuChu Rocket a try. It's been on my shelf for a while and I've never got round to playing it. Good review and I'm looking forward to seeing the future of this series
Retro Zone i know that feels man, i've got loads of games sat on my shelf that i haven't really put the time into.
Man, in the summer of 2000, I played this game online all the time. I hadn't played PC games since the early 90's, so being able to play against other people VIA THE INTERNET was mind-blowing.

This was always advertised in the official DC magazines (and included in the demos), but I never tried it out.
Avalanche Reviews yeah they definitely got their marketing mileage out of CCR, that's for sure. Definitely worth checking out if you're into puzzle games though!

Came here to say it was not only playable online back in the day, it is still playable online on Dreamcast with any tunnel/dreampi method.
great vid, i didnt even know that they ported chuchu rocket to the gba. I remember playing this quite a bit on the Dreamcast but not getting really far as I am terrible at puzzle games.
Odd pod thanks man, enlightening viewers is just part of my job description :)
Very good episode! This is truly the start of something veddy nice!
The Dali Popka thanks Popka! i've got a good list of games/ports i'd like to do, and a few suggestions already of others to check out, so i think i can make something work from it :)
@@GamevsGame Make video 'bout Contra III: Alien Wars versions (SNES/GB/GBA).
Or it's already exist?
These comparison reviews are awesome.
isunshin999 thanks man! if you haven't checked them out yet, Console Wars and Same Name Different Game do comparisons as well!
Your Game vs. Game series is fantastic! Would love to see you do more of them. :)
+SamuraiSam thanks man! i am working on it, derailed a bit with some personal nonsense... but i'm working on it!

Ahh I remember when Sega made great games.
Angel of Death aw what??? shocked and dismayed there's no love for Sonic Boom... ;)

Very nice comparison of these two games.
Dongled thanks man!

MilesLupine ooh kirby would be a great one! any chance you get to talk about kirby should most definitely be taken.

Dominik Mol thanks man, gotta represent the portables!

Great video. Love the little bits of info in this video. I've always heard ChuChu Rocket was good, I just need to finally try it!

You should compare Lunar Silver Star Story Complete to Lunar Silver Star Harmony. ;)
SuperDerek RPG Reviews haha! if you like Lunar so much maybe you should review it! ....oh...

Tailslol Sega had it on iOS for a while but pulled it from the store. PSN rerelease would be great, just need a PS4 now.
Game vs Game thx i see it was just a hd remake of the gba one with no online multiplayer and dreamcast sound...another game made by sega the wrong way damn.
I really liked the handheld Space Channel 5 game to be honest
I never managed to get into this game. I hope Sega re-release it for Steam one day, hopefully with than ton of levels from the GBA port.
When will the next episode come in? :)
+Nightcaster460 back at it and working on finishing it up!
Game vs Game Cool. :)
I can't play Chu Chu Rocket on my GBA while my sister can on hers, why is that??
sega dreamcast really look like i'm dreaming! and you compare 8/16bit gba vs 128bit Dreamcast

cakedaddys ooh nice one, i'll get that on the list.
