    While I loved playing this online (first one on a console), the Japanese ad was the thing I remember most about this game. I couldn't get enough of it. TSUBABABABA!

    I remember ordering this on my Dreamcast, with the crazy slow dial up connection. It was my first experience of using any type of internet. I think I was around 10 or 11 years old. I can still remember the game arriving in the post. Very fond memories of this game and the Dreamcast ❣️

    I actually rather like Sonic Battle. Whiled away many hours on it as a child. Though to be fair I never looked at it as a Smash clone like soo many because I didnt play much Smash. Plus the ability to make a custom character (way before Mii Fighter, take that Nintendo) was nice and the multiplayer was tops!

      Same here, and I find it to be one of the most underrated games in series, other than the fact it was the only GBA title to feature the appearances of Shadow, Rouge, Gamma, and Chaos.

    Can still remember getting my free copy in the post, before the days of ordering stuff online it literally felt like Christmas opening that box and being an actual console game in there. Played this game to death it was brilliant.

    I had it for GBA back in the early 2000's. Back in those days I recorded my custom puzzles in a graph paper notebook. I still have it to this day and can remake my old puzzles any time I like. Some are quite difficult. Nice video 👍

    This was also my first online game ever played. Here in America, it wasn't free though. But it was worth every penny. I used to go online every week and made friends that I still talk to this day!

I'm gutted that I never actually went online on the Dreamcast as I can imagine it would have been a lot of fun. I also had no idea there was an Atari port, that looks really cool. I'd definitely loved to see a ChuChu Rocket 2 and is a shame there is no sequel,but I still hope after so many years.

    Well it doesn't have the online part that Chu Chu Rocket has, nor the namesake of Columns, I think Sega's overlooked puzzle game is Baku Baku Animal from the 5th Generation. It only came out on Saturn and Game Gear, I think it would be a good fit on mobile, these days, actually.

    This is one of my favorite games in Sega's backlog. If there's any IP ripe for this current age of online play, low-cost digital titles, and quirky art styles, it's Chu Chu Rocket. I really hope to see something new for this game someday.

    Us PC gamers had been playing games online with each other ages before consoles got in on the act so when the general public got all excited about games suddenly being able to be played online, we were all like, "Can't you do that already? We've been doing it for years."

    • @slopesgameroom
      @slopesgameroom  8 років тому +3

      +BlackburnBigdragon the difference was vast imo, i played games like warcraft online but it was games like this and the enjoyment of sitting on ya sofa playing online was something crazy special

    • @BlackburnBigdragon
      @BlackburnBigdragon 8 років тому +2

      At that point in time, I had long since turned away from consoles. I was a teenager when the Atari 2600 came out so I really craved more complex hardcore sim games at the time and I really needed a PC for that and considered consoled more kid fare because at the time, they were more focusing on arcade games, platform games, and fighting games. Just not my thing. I was into real hardcore military sims and wargames. Even Warcraft was too simplified for me. If I wanted a war game, I was after those war games like Harpoon III ANW and 688i Hunterkiller. and other military sims with manuals that would be the size of phone books and take every possible thing into account. So consoles weren't my thing at that time. The games on offer just weren't subjects or of a complexity I enjoyed. I imagine for a console fan, finally getting multiplayer was a big thing. It's a shame that it was ripped away so quickly and then the console fans had to wait several years for future consoles to get it back.

      BlackburnBigdragon I also played pc games online in 98 before dreamcast did in 99 and 2000 but there was nothing on pc like phantasy star online and chu chu rocket. Also keep in mind you could already play online on the saturn in 97 like sega rally and duke nukem.

    The main problem with Chu Chu Rocket is that it's a product of its age. It was built from the ground up to demonstrate the Dreamcast's online multiplayer capabilites. It just happened to be great game as well.
    If released today, it honestly wouldn't really serve any meaningful purpose.

    • @slopesgameroom
      @slopesgameroom  8 років тому +1

      +RetroGamerGuardian90 It could never be sold nowadays as a full price game (it never was) but i think add this to a psn and xbox store (and wii u, 3ds) for anything up to £10 and sega would have a hit on their hands :)

    Awww c'mon man... you totally lost credit with me when you said Sonic Advance was good and Battle was bad. I happen to find the Sonic Advance games to be some of the most mind numbingly bad sonic games I've ever played.

    "Every single Dreamcast had [a modem]" - No, for example there was the "Hong Kong Version", which did not come with a modem. I'm losing faith in your videos. :'(

    I still have the disk copy of this game, but I don't have the console anymore. Which is a real shame. I think eventually, you should do a Complete Story of NiGHTS video.
