Oh NICE!! I love it! The shaper sheet worked really well, it seems perfect for smaller layouts and dioramas... might start to get expensive on large layouts but it works a treat if you can afford it! Really enjoyed this video, I definitely picked up a few tips and tricks! Keep it up Kathy 😃
Thanks Luke! I think the shaper sheet will be excellent under rivers etc if you have quite an open framework as a base. At least you know it won’t leak. It is pricy for whole layouts as you say.
@@KathyMillatt and Luke Towan, You two are SOOOOOOO correct. ShaperSheet is to expensive for even its own price point. So for we modelers who enjoy expanding our artisanship here a cheap Kitchen Table fix. Take two or three sheets of Aluminum Foil. Cut to identical desired sizes. A half inch to an inch larger than your diorama. Lay the three in layers atop each other and slightly crimp the edges under. Show not to be seen. Soak tissue or plain flat toilet paper in a lacquer and PVA mix (i.e. Mod Podge. Mine is home made.) CAREFULLY spread the sticky paper on to the Aluminum Foil base and let dry 8 - 10 hours. As needed. Repeat the tissue paper each day until you have built up the desires thickness. And proceed as Kathy described. (I should have said "as Luke described" but any more adulation and his head would swell to large for a super wide angle fisheye len.) Remember we are artisans first. We don't have to hurry. Many thanks for your video Kathy, put in my beach scene very much like your own recipe and it looks fanatastic. Heat warning with the sea though..it looks like Kathy put the sea in when the weather was pretty cool. My garage, were my model railway is located is regularly reaching 25 deg C this week and I was ready to put the sea effect in. The acrylic gloss fell out of the canister like water, not the lovely consistancy you had for brushing. The first layer had to be flat and has dried/ transparent in less than 3 hours. So I put the gloss acrylic in the fridge overnight for the following day, seemed to do the trick for subsequent layers. The same with the white acrylic paint for the waves, although it looked white it was well dilute. Again, put in the fridgeto thicken it up.
I really enjoy watching these, I appreciate the fact that you adapt as you go and admit there were problems you encountered, rather than just cutting these bits out so it looks prefect first time.
Kathy, That reflection shot in your Paint Box is sheer brilliance. You top all us guys whether in U.S., U.K. or A.U. We are put your unworthy subjects. Love you. ~Jim
Thanks for uploading a very well-made video - it has been very professionally done with no blurred shots or bad sound! I would invest in Dremel 930 dual heat glue gun. When it is set to a high temperature, the glue takes longer to set which gives you more time and allows you to assemble projects very quickly for the camera without having to wait for the drying time required for PVA and Gorilla glue. Dremel GC01 high-temperature glue sticks will glue wood and textiles. You can use low-temperature glue sticks with card and foam, but set the gun to a high temperature to give you more time before the glue sets!
I have a hot glue gun but don’t really like it. I find the glue dribbles and strings a little. I did use my little one here for the fences but overall, I’m generally underwhelmed. What am I missing?
@@KathyMillatt The type of glue stick is important. I use Dremel GG01 Multi Purpose Hot Gun Glue Sticks, 12 Pack of 7 mm High Temperature Glue Sticks, Operating Temperature 165-195 degree Celsius. These don't string as easily if you move the gun away quickly. It is advisable to wear cotton gloves because the glue is very hot. If you quickly wave the glue stick across the foam as you did in the video and bang the two pieces of foam together, it is a quick job!
@@KathyMillatt You can assemble a SuperQuick kit this way - and it really will be super quick! Order some small-size metal foldback bulldog clips as these dissipate the heat better than clothes pegs. Find an old cork placemat for putting the hot gun down on!
Hello Kathy, there are just a handful of content providers that I immediately watch upon notification. You are among them. Thanks for another entertaining and informative tutorial. See ya next time.
Kathy Millatt good idea, i have used that too. You could also add jellyfishes to the waterfront by making small dots of gloss medium. If so i think that would the first time on a layout...lol.
Hi Kathy, the diorama looks great that's more inspiration for me to have a go. Just finished Petite Properties kit number 2 and I'm pleased with the result. Think I'll build some more ready for when I build my layout 🙂
@@KathyMillatt this kit took longer to build due to having to cover it in filler and scribe the stones. It's probably not the best representation of stonework ever done, but still a pleasing result for a first attempt.
Yes, absolutely amazing. definitely on equal footing with Luke Towan, Kathy. I think Rob Bennet is up there too. Can't wait to have the room to build another layout so I can try out some of your techniques. :-)
Hello Kathy...Once again one proper job!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your videos. Keep them coming, and cheers from your friend on the other side of the pond.
I was hoping you modeled the coast of san clamente in California where the trains hug the beach at part of the way seeing it for 15 minutes...I need to ride that train again
That’s a really nice result. I think a locomotive trundling along the track would add that extra wow factor. I guess that’s what you intend to do with it?
Kathy that was a perfect gift today, it warmed my glumly day. LOL. I am wondering how your layout is coming along. It's been a long time since I seen it. Happy days
Chris Mitchell there’s nothing to update.... all my modelling is on videos and if you haven’t seen it on there, it hasn’t happened! That will change in April.
Thanks Kathy. May you write me the products you used to make the waves? (I mean that medium gloss you said)I am making a diorama of a light in the sea and I want to make some waves. Is it possible to use that product on a base of sea done with resins? Thank you so much for your videos.

Have a go, it was great fun to do.

Thanks Jim but I’m sure there are plenty more gifted modellers around the world.
This would be a perfect Mini Kathy vacation spot. Oh the humanity.
They may have sunbathed there for a bit...

One of your best dioramas. Your explanation was concise and clear, just love it

Thanks.
Always impressed by your scenes

Excellent build and tutorial Kathy! Thanks for sharing this.

Marvellous. You are an inspiration Kathy. Thank you.
Thanks Geoff.
Kathy that beach scene is just amazing you have real skill i think you are just as good as Luke Towan great job.
Thanks! Being compared to Luke is an honour!
Looks great Kathy.
Thanks.

Very glad I found your channel. You are immensely talented and learning from you will help my layout. Stay warm over there

Brilliant as usual
Thanks.

Awesome techniques Kathy, and the end result is smashing! You do such great work... I want to be you when I grow up LOL! Thanks Kathy!
Thanks!
Thank you Kathy, I picked up a few tips there. Regards, David.
Thanks David.
Nice job

Total Awesomeness...
Thanks!
If i use 2mm static grass it stands up but i can't see it. If i use 4 or 7mm i can see it but it lies flat. So hoovering it is the answer?
I do find hoovering helps a lot. I have a similar problem with longer grass.
Lady, I'm new in you channel, I follow you from the Luke Towan channel!
That’s brilliant, thank you.
I was hoping you modeled the coast of san clamente in California where the trains hug the beach at part of the way seeing it for 15 minutes...I need to ride that train again

That turned out awesome, I learned a lot about doing scenery. Thanks for sharing. Ken
Thanks Ken.

Thanks Joe.

Very nice video good job 👍
Thank you.
That’s a really nice result. I think a locomotive trundling along the track would add that extra wow factor. I guess that’s what you intend to do with it?
Hi Simon. There’s not enough run I’m afraid. It would manage 6” before falling off the end. 😄
I'm so inspired to recreate my favorite beach (Galveston, TX). Will this work for a "miniature village" as well as dioramas?
The techniques should work anywhere however if your miniature village is outside, you’d want a waterproof glue.
Hi Kathy, Takes time But looks Fantastic , I always keep the wife's tights just incase, Nice to see you back, All the Best Brian 🤗
Thanks Brian. This was a quick diorama so it was a blast to do.
Kathy that was a perfect gift today, it warmed my glumly day. LOL. I am wondering how your layout is coming along. It's been a long time since I seen it. Happy days

Really good any tips to make the sea
There are so many different ways depending on what kind of sea it is. I have quite a few water tutorial videos which will help.
@@KathyMillatt thank, some more of your work all the best, the stuff you use is expensive where di you order them
Anywhere I can find them. I’ve been doing this for 20 years so it ranges from hobby shops, exhibitions to eBay and Amazon.
Very nice scene, Kathy. The fellow looks happy but why is he still dressed for winter ? Should be shorts & t-shirt , surely?
He’s up really early and feels the chill ocean wind a little bit too much in his bones. 😁
Hello, you obviously have never visited the beach in The UK. Especially in the winter months. The sun is out, but it’s still bone chillingly cold!
Norman Rowe even in the summer...
@@normanrowe2831 Kia ora, I'm in new Zealand, it is late summer,we had our first 5 celcius morning today. Already back to 20.

😁😁😁

The details of all the products I used are linked in the description below the video.
Ties Kathy?.....surely you mean sleepers? 😛
It’s a US diorama.... so ties I’m afraid.
The diorama was great but if it had moving objects, that'd be nice
I thought about that but it’s hard to get a mainline train to move in that distance. A loco would move about 6” before it fell off the end...
It looks like a real idooool.
