I fell upon this clip & memories of CR flooded in. As a very young child, I remember Mr. Romero in a Shirley Temple movie, even then at a young age I thought he was so handsome! Yes, he was great as Batman's "Joker", however he was a tremendous dancer & actor. Always very classy, suave and so well spoken. I could listen to him speak for hours. Today's celebrities no longer have the Finesse & Sophistication as CR & his peers of that time. "September Song", my eyes tear up... so true
Seeing Cesar in this setting, and in such a personal way was a revelation! Also, I loved his rendition of "September Song!" It's such a haunting and melancholy song, but still promises the best is yet to come! Thanks so much M for this elegant post! John/varadero
Please, post lots more like this if you have them - love the old MD show, real and interesting conversations. A few months after this Cesar would shoot to fame as the Joker on the 1966-68 Batman tv show. I met him once in 1988ish at a Batman reunion deal - very nice guy. Thanks so much for the post -
Mr. Romero does a wonderful reading of "September Song". The song was introduced, and sang by Walter Huston on Broadway in "Knickerbocker Holiday" in the 1920's. Walter the father of director/actor John Huston and the great-great grandfather of Danny Huston - star of the current cable series "Magic City".
That was a beautiful reading of "September Song", but then I'm always moved by the words. Jimmy Durante did a rendition and it will always be one of my favorites.
He seems to have been a very nice man, elegant, refined, and polished. Suave and handsome, yes, but very likeable and natural, didn't put on airs. Appears to have been an engaging storyteller, too. Not sure why MD asked him to read the song lyrics--Mr. Romero seemed somewhat surprised himself but readily agreed. Of course, the words he spoke were smooth and heartfelt--all done cold-turkey, it appeared, without foreknowledge that he'd be asked. Mr. Romero, in retirement, probably would've made an excellent vocal-talent for recording audiobooks, had they existed back then, to the extent they do today, since his voice was so easy-on-the-ears and mellifluous. I'd like to catch some of his old movies. I've seen only a few glimpses over the years, wherein he usually seemed to be playing a Latin lover, in typically South American settings, oozing charm and wowing the ladies. Probably would need to be watched today with an accepting sense of the era in which they were made. Again, a nice man!
@Presgipper Thank You for the nice comment....You're so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet Cesar.....This clip is the only Mike Douglas I have, but if you like Cesar, I have almost 60 clips I've uploaded of him so far....clips of movies, TV shows and some more interviews....Just clck on my name---anderson7293---to view my channel....Hope you enjoy them!!!
He was good, no doubt! And also my favorite version. However, it’s only fair to point out that even though he was the original on screen joker, the “original” joker as written in the conics in the 1940’s, was a much darker and more cynical character. They returned Joker to these routes after the 1960’s TV series.
@@carlsagan2299 He was gay. He was in the closet so back then he had to say that he was single in public. He was out to close friends and co-workers only.
HE WAS THE BEST JOKER

I only knew him as the Joker but there was much more to him. and his Joker was amazing.
Romero was about 59 years old during this interview. He was class act and so talented back in his day.

This is November 1966, and Batman premiered in Jan. 1966 so Romero was already known as the Joker at this point

Looked very dashing at this age.
My new idol. Tall dark gay and handsome. Funny as hell. The original Joker.
HE BORN THE JOKER.

So a man who decides to remain single is automatically labeled gay?

@jvarela965 How Right You Are!!!...Thanks for your comment
I wonder what year was this filmed at?
PLAYER, PLAYER!!!!!!!
He was gay but big deal.
Then why are we bringing it up
@@robertmccrimon6891 No proof to that stupid rumor....but some moron always has to bring it up
So were a lot others, are you going to hold that against him,Simon Saunders?
Beta males are threatened by true alphas, nothing new.
Just because he never married!
Does that make one abnormal!
haunted mouth
Cesar Romero was also homosexual
what's your point? useless comment

How is that relevant to anything? Pointless comment and inappropriate.
