  • This tutorial is aimed at beginners who want to start learning the rope dart or meteor hammer.
    I explain some basic moves that you can perform with this unconventional weapon.
    These so called "soft weapons" teach you to move your body in flowing motions and can be used to supplement other martial arts or to express yourself in flow arts.

    great tutorial thankyou, I notice you seem to prefer to work bare foot aswell, I always struggle somewhat with sidekick shots in winter when I have to wear shoes. A lot of people seem to worry about catching a foot with the dart but I'm sure the extra sensitivity is worth the risk.

    Thanks for this tutorial! While I'm not planning on learning to handle this weapon, I'm planning on making a character that weilds it! It really helps to see a slow breakdown of the technique needed to use this weapon!
    I do have a question, if you're willing to answer. Do you think someone would be able to efficiently use this weapon while wearing loose fitting clothing (such as a big hoodie or even a skirt), or would that hinder the weapon's movement too much?

    • @Vultimo
      @Vultimo  2 роки тому +11

      Hey, I'm glad that I could help with the inspiration!
      From my experience, it's actually quite difficult to wield a rope dart when wearing long and loose clothes because the rope tends to get caught in long clothing, since the rope actually moves around your body quite a lot.

    I made mine a bit smaller, because I want it to be concealed, and the dart itself I carved it using construction grade wood so its very hard and the other elements of my rope dart like the chain and flag, I found it while dumpster diving, so the only thing I brought was the rope and some heat shrink tube to secure the knots.😊

    It is a foot long log, about 6 inches thick, tied to a rope. Very heavy. I have made one and used it before in practice, it is not graceful in any way, as it works through sheer brute force. It managed to break a small wooden garden bridge in one hit.

    Hey, i just got into meteor hammer and realized that you should probably use gloves, what gloves do you use?

    • @Vultimo
      @Vultimo  Рік тому +1

      Hi, glad you've started meteor hammer! In the beginning, I started using fingerless bicycle gloves but actually you want to protect the whole of your lead hand index finger as your index finger will be in constant contact with the rope.
      If you are serious about meteor hammer, I'd recommend to not use gloves though, since then you'll be able to build up a small amount of callous on your fingers that you'll need. Also be sure to use soft cotton rope that's not too abrasive to your fingers.

    • @Vultimo
      @Vultimo  10 місяців тому

      Yeah, I'm still here 😉
      I wouldn't recommend using a chain since the rope has to slide through your hands which a chain cannot. However, some people in the fire spinning community use a short chain directly connected to the head end since it would be lit on fire, but as far as I know, not the whole rope would be a chain.
