Agreed and personally been through this myself recently. I worked in a home for people with disabilities and was making a roast chicken as that was on the menu. Now a lot of black people that work in health care are African, African and by that I mean they were born and raised there but I’m British Jamaican and also mixed so I don’t even look like what you’d expect a stereotypical African person to look like. I had one of my Pakistani coworkers come into the kitchen and asked what African food I was cooking even though a roast chicken is a traditional Sunday British dinner and no he wasn’t joking he was dead serious and I found it offensive cause he literally just generalised me/us black people as all being the same. As much as I 100% accept if I go back how many hundreds upon hundreds of years ago my roots would be African, I am Caribbean, my people had to invent and adopt their own culture and language as everything we had from our African heritage as Afro Caribbean’s was erased due to slavery (something that not every African nation even went through), same with African Americans. I can’t tell you where I originate from in Africa but I can tell you where my family has lived in Jamaica for generations. I don’t speak any African languages, I speak patois and I don’t cook African food, I cook Jamaican food. Like imagine if it was the other way round and I just rocked up and was like “what Indian food you cooking” even though he’s Pakistani and how many years ago Pakistan and India were once the same country. Its rude and diminishes someone’s culture even though he’s a lot closer to his Indian ancestry than I would be to my African ancestry.

I've never heard of British Jamaican thank you for teaching me something new today 😊 I work in healthcare as well and you're right on the money we have mostly Black, Hispanic, and Nigerian in my area and we have a handful of Indian, Pakistan and maybe 2-3 Asian. I'm mixed race but most people just assume I'm 100% black which doesn't bother me but we have a large Hispanic patient population and a lot don't speak English especially the elders. When they needed someone to translate they would skip right past me (who speaks a decent amount of conversational Spanish) and go either to my other co worker (black but VERY light) or the other one who's Puerto Rican but speaks ZERO Spanish. It never bothered me cause soon as the other two told them they didn't speak Spanish and pointed at me the look on their faces was priceless!!!🤣 It's very rude though to assume someone's race Unfortunately there's a big part of the Mexican culture (in my area) that does NOT like Puerto Rican, Dominicans, Cuban, etc they feel like they're better than them and look down on them. If you call someone who's Puerto Rican, Dominican etc Mexican around here and it's gonna be a fight!
Hispanic is considered derogatory by some Latin people due to the inference that Spaniards "own" the indigenous mayan/Aztec people. What some people refer to people as has to do with what they know and probably aren't aware of. Prime example, you finding it appropriate to call Latinos, Hispanic. Not every Latino is okay with that.
In the Hispanic community it is disrespectful to be called different than what you are. They will correct you real quick.

I would feel like he was insulting me if he told me that even if I was Mexican. I think cardi meant she “likes to date ppl of a different culture or nationality” because she mentioned black Americans (they have a different culture than Dominicans) and Jamaican men and they also have a different culture. So when she said “race” I think she meant nationality and skin complexion. When it comes to Afro Latinos and Latinos in general I think a lot of African Americans get confused with race, culture, ethnicity, and nationality. You can be Afro and dominicana at the same time. So her mother very well could be Afro Latina there for making Cardi B Afro Latina. So yeah she is black but she isn’t African American. So you can argue from a stand point of her partaking in African American (culture AKA rap/hiphop music) but she is “black” if she is Afro Latino she just wouldn’t be ADOS.

When Spain colonized those countries, they also brought over slaves and later on those slaves integrated with the native Indians and the Spaniards resulting in mixed race people. As a former teacher, I can attest to the fact that students and people are like are very particular about their cultures. Dominicans and Mexicans in my experience, have some sort of beef that I am not sure about because I am a black woman, but I do know that a lot of Spanish-speaking people are serious about their cultures and where they are from and they do not want to be miss appropriated, and I’m OK with it.
I’ve seen this with Puerto Ricans too.
In my experience it’s not beef most Latinas have love for each other but don’t like being purposefully misidentified in a derogatory way. Their proud of their heritage & culture & like most people want that too.
From food, to accent to music. The only thing Mexican and Dominicans have in common is the language. Imagine saying the UK and Canadians were compared 🙄, you Americans are just so dang ignorant.

Raymonte's mistake was calling Cardi B a Mexican, which was an inaccurate assumption, when he should've done his research to find out which latin country Cardi B's parents are actually from. Going forward, we now know that Cardi B is Dominican, not Mexican. If Raymonte wasn't sure which Spanish country Cardi B's parents came from, then he should've classified her as "Latina" or "hispanic". For example, if i was uncertain of where a female's parents are from despite her Caribbean accent, then i'll label her a "Caribbean woman". Here's another example, when people ask me where i'm from, i tell them that I'm African American since i was born here in New York in the United States of America (USA) and my parents are from Ghana. But sometimes, i've been in a few situations where someone people will say, "Oh....You're from Giana?". Then, i'll kindly say, "No i'm not from Giana. My parents are from Ghana located in West Africa". I don't necessarily get offended, however, it does make me wonder why some people mistake Giana for Ghana though. Speaking of Cardi B, she knew exactly what she was doing the entire time from taking pictures with Ice Spice to telling Ice Spice to post those photos on social media, which led to Ice Spice getting dragged by Nick Minaj's fans, so yeah, it looks as if Cardi B successfully set Ice Spice up. On the flip side of it, it is a surprise to see Ice Spice in photos with Cardi B only because Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj did collaborate on a few songs last year in 2023, so it looked as if Nicki Minaj has been a supportive mentor to Ice Spice in some way, you know? Having said that, it's understandable in general that Ice Spice and Cardi B in photos together is weird to some people on the outside looking in. Well, at least this entertainment news video is a break from all this Diddy stuff we've been hearing for the past few months nonetheless.

When people find out that I’m not ghetto and loud, they are mad because I don’t fit the role to whatever movie they are playing inside their head. We live in a society where people assume Black people are all the same and see us as a character trope rather than a human being with layers and unique experiences. Non-black POCs and light skin/mixed race black people have the privilege of being seen as a human being. What makes people like Jennifer and cardi identify as Afro latinas is that they are carribean. Until you understand the differences between Latin America and the Latinos in the Caribbean you will never get it. We have African roots. Our islands are inspired by Africa due to the slave trade. From our food, music, dance, culture, beliefs, rituals etc. Puerto Ricans and Dominicans are especially disliked because of it and are seen as the “ghetto” (black) Latinos regardless of the skin color. Anti-blackness is still a thing in Latin America and the fact that we even have an ounce of black is a turn off. Our islands are very small so we’re outnumbered and we still deal with oppression. Meanwhile Mexicans and Latin America run/control the news, channels, media, awards etc. Sound familiar? It wasn’t up until the late 80s when we started to get buzz thanks to the birth of reggaeton and Dominicans just started getting representation and that’s only thanks to streaming and social media. Latin America mocks us and i myself have even been called an “island rat”. But, like black American culture, after all the controversy our stuff becomes popular because it’s now seen as fresh, cool and upbeat. Cuba deals with it too,Haiti doesn’t even get acknowledged, Brazil just started making noise… but these are things that Americans don’t know about. Americans look at us like “y’all all look alike and speak spanish”. And that’s wrong. I notice too it’s a southern thing. it seems like they only know black,white,and Mexican…. Not really cultured down there vs up north and the west coast where it’s more diverse so people just get it.

Cardi B has been around longer than the rest of the people that was named (Glorilla, Ice Spice, City Girls, etc) so it makes sense that she has a lot more opportunities than them, especially since she is beefing with one of the biggest female artists, is with one of the Migos, and has been associated with Hollywood to some extent.
