Nicki doing a sold out WORLD tour 15years into her career isnt talked about enough no female rapper had such a remarkable run. This lady is setting bar so high once again and im so happy you highlighted her success in this video because only a few media outlets are doing that
15 years into her career, 10 years of those being the only female rapper, the remaining 5 causing controversy and remaining relevant. Her content and style hasn’t changed, it’s neat enough repetitive, not a lot of artists would get away with that. Madonna for example has reinvented her sound and image multiple times to remain relevant, but that’s because there’s stiff competition in pop, Nicki hasn’t had that challenge… I would be concerned if Nicki didn’t have a firm enough fanbase to sell out a world tour after all these years and all the space to do that

Platforms like tiktok have simply exposed Americans to other artists and music around the world. She was already popular, so a song of her was due to go viral, regardless of borders any ways. She came up with a cute dance and whole routine that would catch on to tiktok and it worked. Even if water didn't blow up, she would still be famous in Africa, regardless.
Now ice Spice I can't explain because she has 0 star power at all and leaves very little to be desired when she performing live or anything.

Her social media following was also quite at a healthy size and the views on her videos were doing quite well, always over a million. So when water took off, I really wasn't surprised and it seemed natural that that would be her next step. It helps that she has pretty privilege as well. People underestimate pretty privilege a lot.

Ice is an industry plant. Tyla was popular already for a few years in South Africa so her transition to more popularity made sense to me. Plus, unlike Ice, Tyla is talented and has charisma. I literally cannot explain Ice Spice's popularity, it makes no sense.

I dont think artists like Tyla and Ice spice start out as industry plants. I think their initial fame and success is organic but once the industry sees their marketability, they essentially sign them and give them a huge push (then making them industry plants). Tyla getting a grammy this early in her career isnt as surprising when you consider artists like Billie Eilish, Cardi B and Olivia Rodrigo all "swept" the grammies the year they released their debut full length albums. The music industry has for a while now been about making money and they're going to push whoever seems like will make them the most money

African music, especially amapiano, is some of the most beautiful and genuinely SOULFUL sounds that are present in the industry today. And it’s getting more attention, and she’s part of that as a young artist. She won a grammy for a brand new category recognizing AFRICAN artists because the song is a GLOBAL hit. Halle’s music is like chicken noodle soup for the soul. Her music takes me back to being a little girl living on the south side of Chicago in the early 2000’s listening to artists like Goapele, Corinne Bailey Rae, India Arie, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Des’ree, Amel Larrieux [Groove Theory], and more! This is the kind of sound I miss being played on the radio.

I don’t share your concerns around Halle’s fan base- I think her fan base expects an alternative sound from her and that’s why she’s popular. Chloe X Halle were in the alternative space. Yes the song would be a bigger deal if it was coming from one of the white superstars you mentioned, but there’s been loads of hype and love for this song, especially from her fans. Hope she does well with it! Her music and voice deserve all the recognition.
