  • Here's a 9-month progress marker. It's been really fun to be able to work on these songs this month...inching closer and closer to where they actually sound like a solid set together. Still room for LOTS of progress. Added a complete work-in-progress at the end - hopefully it will be in much better shape next month!

Thanks Justin - Amazing to me how UA-cam can turn into a little private stage! Keeps me practicing, that's for sure. One of these days I'll be able to play a full song at full speed and actually call it a "cover" :)

watched all 9 videos, great progress! I have been on it for 10 years, on and off, and you are better than me. Looking forward to further updates on your progress!

Thanks Balazs! I feel like I have light years to go but it's really fun to see the practice minutes add up to something resembling a song (most of the time ;) )

Hi Jesse, cool stuff, my personal opinion for what it is worth is, when you can replace the guitar you are using now with a better quality one do so, you have earned it, the difference in quality will just inspire you more, the sound will be more articulated and allow you to put the nuances in your playing that i can see you are striving for, also the playing Action and sound of an instrument is a huge part of the enjoyment of learning the guitar, ultimately it is about tone, feel, and play ability, i think you are above the level now that this guitar is able to assist you with. Massive improvements from you, it seems obvious to me that the guitar could assist you better tonally and in its play ability, it can only be an upward travel to your mastery of the guitar to replace it with a better instrument you will be amazed at the difference it can make. I have watched nearly all of your videos, and you are i am sure inspirational to a lot of people on the same road you are now traveling on to master this amazing instrument the guitar. I have been playing for 35 plus years, I am not the worlds best player or an authority on guitars or playing them, but i know enough to see potential and when someone is at a point where they need to move to a different level in the choice of an instrument to progress more. fantastic job on your part. you have certainly earned an upgrade. Thanks for sharing. Andy. Scotland. peace.

That's a massive compliment - thank you Andy. Now I just need to find a sponsor! I have been really delighted to be able to go into a guitar store and actually feel/hear the difference between the different guitars and be able to push them a bit to get a better feel for what guitar "speaks to me." I am beginning to gravitate to a few next-level guitars and will keep refining what I'm looking for as I save my pennies and in the mean time keep trying to improve my playing ability. FWIW I think my recording setup isn't doing enough justice to the guitar that I have - i feel like there's alot of tone and dynamics that I just am not able to get onto the recording - so over time hope to be able to improve that as well.

Nice job! I really appreciate you posting these. I’ve been documenting some myself over on instagram. Neat to see progress…it’s like one day you can’t do something and the next it just happens. Did you learn these from Justin’s site and videos or did you use other sources. I’d like to try them myself.

Thanks Ryan! It's amazing to me how after working on something for sometimes weeks it all just seems to fall together. Usually - still waiting for that to happen for Just Breathe :).
I usually start wtih Justin's tutorials for any particular song then spend some time on UA-cam finding tutorials that suit my level and what I'm trying to accomplish for each song. For these songs in particular, I used:
      Don't Panic: Justin's tutorial
Fix you: Justin's tutorial and ua-cam.com/video/KQ35HhzNLIQ/v-deo.html (GZ2H is another go-to for me)
Yellow: Justin's tutorial for this version, though the first version I learned was Lee John Blackmore's ua-cam.com/video/GnpKRbp8wJw/v-deo.html
Just Breathe: Harder to find tutorials for this one but really learned alot from ua-cam.com/video/NaPiUu3RJhQ/v-deo.html

@@jessethetodd Thank you! I’ve been shuffling around on different guitar tutorials for songs. I’ll definitely check those out. The variations in strumming and fretting really stood out in the ones you played.
