    Longyearbyen is so far up North that the sun doesnt even give the “Golden Hour” effect because even at midnight it is still quite high up above horizon. quite spectacular and very few places in the world where one can experience this

    • @Mrmakeyoumad
      @Mrmakeyoumad 3 роки тому +8

      Yes. The sun dosen't go below than 6° during midnight, buttt the sun dosen't go above -6° during winters in high noon, light is only visible between 9 am and 2 pm,only a tiny bit unless if its cloudy its gonna be dark.but since Longyearbyen is so north its super cold and its mostly cloudy, and it snows alot in December blocking sunlight so its safe to say even though the sun doesn't enter golden hour in the summer. It dosen't exit the dark hour in the winter

      In midwinter the sun doesn't get above -11.7 deg. at noon, it just barely makes nautical twilight (11AM-1PM). Likewise, in midsummer it doesn't dip below 11.7 deg. at midnight.

    WTB some thick curtains. Interesting how the sun still doesn't reach more than about 35 degrees even in summer.

    • @demonhalo67
      @demonhalo67 5 років тому +7

      Let me offer an explanation for this. The Solstice summer noon sun angle is dependent on the actual latitude and whether the location is above or below the Arctic circle. Since Longyearbyen is essentially 12 degrees above the Arctic circle, it makes sense that at noon on Dec 21st the sun would reach a maximum of -12 degrees below the horizon at noon on that date. Therefore in summer solstice the sun angle at noon is not nearly as high as mid latitudes in Longyearbyen.

    • @demonhalo67
      @demonhalo67 5 років тому +5

      Basically, unlike mid latitudes where the sun always rises above the horizon even on the shortest day, in high latitudes above the Arctic circle (66 degrees) there are periods in mid winter which it doesn't. This is compensated for by a shallower solstice noon angle in the summer. The degree of which depends on how far north of the Arctic circle a place is.

      It's basically pitch black all day. Even under perfect conditions on the winter solstice, the solar altitude at the solar noon is approximately -13 degrees (as they are 13 degrees further north in latitude to the arctic circle). Therefore, only astronomical twilight during a few weeks around the winter solstice, and varying stages of twilight between late October and mid-February. Bright for 4 months straight and then basically dark for 4 months straight!

What proves it is there is no curvature and we have a horizon that ramps UP to your eye level and stays at eye level as you rise in altitude...that can ONLY happen on a flat plain earth. Cant happen on a ball any size. A ball earth would see a horizon below your eye level and would stay fixed as you ascend having to look further doiwn to the horizon (horizontal) as you rose.
