i don’t see many people talk about building confidence to do content creation so hearing about it from you felt so real.. but it’s so wholesome to see you grow in that sense, hope you feel even more comfortable soon >.
You two are the sweetest. It was fun to see everything from your point of view (your desk, reading, etc). Thanks for sharing your day with us! I just finished The True Deceiver by Tove Jansson and really loved it.
I got out of a reading slump by just reading the 'guilty pleasure' books, that aren't necessarily 'good' or 'productive' to read. 'Fast food' books. Also watching ppl with similar tastes to mine review and suggest books really gets me excited to read them. Sometimes just scrolling through book stores and seeing something I'd like to read helps (especially if you already have that in your physical tbr or something similar or the same author).
I loved the darkest shade of green for the living room! The furniture and light fixture are both light in colour, so I think they would balance each other out well. As for reading slumps; I'm in one myself and suck at getting out of them - but at the same time I am "great" at reading more than one book at a time (I currently have 12 books listed as "currently reading" on GoodReads). One of my current reads is 'The Empty Mirror: Experiences in a Japanese Zen Monastery' by Janwillem van de Wetering, recommended to me by one of my professors at uni.
With a strong paint (which can be an amazing look) try painting just one wall. It can be a precursor to painting the entire room or it can be an amazing accent wall. If it goes bad it's not an overwhelming thing to come back from. We once painted a house exterior. Was a bit cringe. 😬🙄Repainted.
I love this video. A way I get myself into reading is by listening to classical music. Also depending on the genre that I’m reading I’ll play music that goes with the book or what I feel would play in that world. Also a good chair or spot is essential for comfort and good lighting to not strain your eyes. About the color, call me crazy but I loved the blue for the dining area, I feel the colors were very, very dark and I know Benji wants the cozy color but I’m no interior designer. But I feel your home already has that vibe going for it. It’s cozy, I feel not everything “cozy” has to be dark. It’s the things inside and the people that live in it that adds that cozy feeling. The warm welcome and the environment helps it a lot, in my humble (dumb) opinion. Thanks for taking us on a regular day with you Chris!
y'all's channels are my sunday reset before the work week 🙏🏻 glad you're settling into making videos and feeling more comfortable. i'm sure it'll take some time, but you're doing great. as far as what folks are reading, i'm reading "the red arrow" by william brewer, a favorite poet of mine who put this out as his first novel two years ago. definitely recommend so far!
God, I wish I was as chilled as you and Benjamin are, I’m coming up to my 60th at the end of the month and I’m a carer for my partner who has MS, but like you Chris I’m trying to read, I’ve just started reading about the great Harvey Milk. Please stay safe and well and give the Hairy babies a big cuddle.❤️🏳️🌈🇬🇧🙏
i think your haircut looks good and great skin! thank you for sharing a day in the life with us and being real about your challenges with reading. very relateable!
as someone who's trying to improve their english these videos do wonders for me. i absolutely love hearing you talk! i hope you do more vlogs in the future🤍
Recently finished 'Soft' by Jane Mai, a graphic novel retelling of Carmilla from the point of view of a teenage girl. I‘m glad they reprinted it recently! And I think painting the wall a warm yellow or terracotta? I think those colours are quite nice in dining/kitchen areas and will contrast the greens from the plants and furniture 🎨
Chris and Benji talking about books or random things in a video every week, that's what this people (and me) NEEDS 🦋✨️✨️✨️✨️ I'm following you from Argentina, love the content 🇦🇷
I’m reading if we were villains right now. But honestly even after like 40 % of the book I’m not hooked yet. Maybe I won’t finish it. Which I rarely do when I already read so much of it. Love seeing your day 💕
This is so cute haha! Thanks for sharing and I hope you continue because you are very relatable. I am still going through Prince Lestat by Anne Rice :)
Travel Team A Wolf Called Wander Beyond Theology Peace Is Every Step Waste Land I've been reading about five books at a time this year which is a bit too much (its hard to finish a book that way.) The beginning of the year I started with Slow Productivity which I've been waiting for years to get released. Its a really helpful book.
"Monk and Robot" and "Small Angry Planet" from Becky Chambers have been my favorite recently. "Kill the Farm Boy"-Tales of Pell Series was also very fun for me to readd
Don Winslow's The Border. Its so funny because I just finished a book by him and I was looking for a new book. I am a housekeeper and so when people leave books behind, after a certain period of time, of course, I am able to take the books and read them. it just so happens that both these books were left lol . I'm a super slow reader so the first Don Winslow book that came across my path was City on Fire. and I'm living in the New England area so a mob book about the area (dog town) was super fun. I think this new book is obviously about the US/Mexico border. So now being a NM born and rased people Ill be able to get into a new novel about the location I gew up in.
Hey guys, I stumbled across your channel yesterday by complete accident and I am in love with your style of vlogging, please keep it as natural as it is because I haven't really seen anyone doing videos on booktube quite as you are doing. And the fact you both speak very gently makes such a difference for me, because I get really anxious around people who yell or talk very fast. Tell Benji he's absolutely right on the color for the living room, that darker green is stunning and would fit really well with the space. I would personally use the grey for the bedroom. I agree with him, painting some rooms will give the space more personality and make it more special. ❤
I recently reread several books I hadn't read in years - funny how you always see something new or you don't remember. The Alchemist and The Changeling Garden are two. New reads are The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djeli.Clark if you like science fiction. Good luck with overcoming your slump.
Thanks for sharing your day! Even though it's not always easy to be seen, it's been so lovely to see a slice of your life. I'm currently re-listening to the House in the Cerulean Sea in anticipation of the release of Somewhere Beyond the Sea next Tuesday. So excited for this, and would be very interested to hear what you think of the sequel.
I am so proud of you, Chris!! I was ecstatically surprised to discover that you did a day in the life!! It was a pleasure to watch. I appreciate and love how sincere and down to earth you are. Do more, please!! I hope you recover from your reading slump ... it took me years (sorry to say). But a few months ago, I literally forced myself to pick up a book by my favorite author, Kristin Hannah. I was totally immersed in it. Finished the book and have recently purchased her newest release. However, the book has been sitting untouched on my coffee table for a few weeks. Life goes on ....
I'm interested in the ideas about getting out of a reading slump, too! Also, I love the middle paint sample. Because it's green, I think it'll read less dark than other colors might. Let those ugly comments drift away on the breeze. Sit with the comments full of affection and connection. I think it's what you'd suggest for a friend, so do the same thing for yourself. All people deserve respect and affection, including ourselves.
Will wave to you guys as Amtrak's Coast Starlight heads northbound next week. Have procured a book for the trip by Robert J. Sawyer. First book of Neanderthal Parallax: Hominids Thanks for inviting us to spend a day with you.
Thank you for your Day in the Life video. Today I finished reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. It was the last of ten Victorian novels I've been reading with a friend.
Glad to see you back. Always a wonderful watch. Get a bit worried when someone says their getting a bit too overdone with rl and have to put other things they enjoy on back burner. Love the slow wander into the day. Would love for you to read Carlos Ruiz Zafon. He has a series of books set in Barcelona. Very engaging and well written. A young man whose father owns a old book store there. He is a very rich writer. I swear I can feel and smell the surroundings as his characters move thru them. These are mysteries set over several generations. A series of books which have 'characters' of books, book stores and mythos.
hi Chris!! hello from a fellow librarian :) I’m currently reading Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar. it’s so good! I would recommend Martyr! if you’re in a reading slump because each “chapter” is extremely short, so it makes you feel like you’re making progress and it’s easier to pick up/put down the book more often. I would say the same for short story books - like a lot of Japanese fiction.
I’m so in love with your channel :) just finished The Recipes for Love and Murder by Sally Andrew, and it’s such a heart-warming and cute book, despite being a crime story. Currently listening to the anniversary edition of American Gods by Neil Gaiman (already read the paper version but I’m a serial reader). Also, I’m for the paler green, or may be something just a little bit warmer and darker, but not too dark.
When I'm in a reading slump,I try audio books,or switch to a new book or just take a week off reading and just keep watching book related contents on socials after this I feel more into reading. It works for me,i hope you found one of the helpful Chris
Thanks for the video. I am currently enjoying 'A stopover in Venice' by Kathryn Walker. I'm only 92 pages in, but I'm really enjoying the plot. It centers around a woman who gets off a train in Venice, leaving behind her husband who is a famous musician. I like that she is nervous about venturing out on her own and also thrilled by the experience.
Hey Chris, I really enjoy your content! It’s so calming and just a pleasure to watch. I think you are a very likable person. I’m also a bit of a reserved person and I usually never comment on UA-cam videos. I found you through Benji and I’m excited to see more videos from you. Right now, I’m reading *Under the Whispering Door* by T.J. Klune, and I highly recommend it. Best regards from Germany 😊 P.S.: For your reading slump, I would recommend watching videos of people talking about their favorite books or sharing recommendations to get excited about new books again.
You are so real for that. I’m also trying to get into making videos (not professionally, just for myself and memories so I can rewatch them) and it feels so weird talking to a camera or talking in public 😅
I didn't really expect it but same with Katseye. I even bought their album and usually I don't like learning dances but theirs? Yeah, watch me dancing Touch multiple times a day And I agree I like the dark green :) The vlog was so cozy, i loved it!!

i'll never miss a chris upload
I did the exact same thing as Benji for The Secret History. Honestly, doing a portion via audio saved the book itself! Great vid ~ as always.
The dark green paint looks good! Darker colors look really good with the right warm ambient lighting.

Hi Chris! Great video! I've been reading Vengeance Is Mine by Marie NiDiaye. It gets a terrible Goodreads score but I've really been enjoying it.
Nowadays I’m reading (peace is every breath) book, guys your Vlogs makes me more quiet and calm 🩵

📚 I am currently reading ‘The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, and War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. I found out last week that if I read a chapter a day, at a minimum of the latter, than I will have read the book in one year. Well today is the 7th and I am 18 chapters in. I started on the 1st of September. I was thinking to get through chapter 21 today, then I will cut the reading time to one season.
In the car, I am listening to Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss with my husband when we drive to and from work. When I am driving alone I listen to Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The first is the first book in the Kingslayer Chronicles. The latter, is because I am an also a Native American Ecologist, but study hydrology and aquatic organisms.
Also, when I wish, I pick up my non-fiction book at the moment, which is How To Take Smart Notes by Sönke Ahrens.
I've been re-reading the Harry Potter series, just finished Goblet of Fire, amazing book! So much going on and foreshadowing. Now onto Order of the Phoenix! :D
I enjoyed watching this while eating my dinner
