Good tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for to replace the water pump on my 90 HP Johnson. I couldn’t figure out how to get to that shift linkage. Thank you!
That’s the tricky part
👍love the commentary, sounds like me explaining stuff
Hey thanks for taking the time to make the video dude
first time I watched this, I couldn't understand what the guy was talking about. But I guess he wanted to check, do work on, and replace stuff around carbs. Maybe now I'm understand how to disconnect the top of the Shift Rod, and reconnect it. How it is put together. It all looked solid to me. I didn't get that the shift cable thing, once you take out that big cotter pin, can be pushed in. That ;pushing it in is what removes that pin holding the top of the Shift Rod in place. It looked to me like everything solid. That maybe that pin had to be removed, popped out, or it was a screw. Then I figured how you do that, how not have it drop into motor and lose it, how get it back on. So I guess that pin is solidly connected to what is behind top of Shift Rod. So it moves out when you push that Shift cable thing in. OK, now maybe it's making sense. I didn't get before why he was removing all the carb stuff. But I guess I have to check my carbs anyways, clean them, spray in carb cleaning after sitting all winter. Un-Winterize motor. I need to get one of those long right angle pick things.
I'm sure you know by now, you forgot one important o ring. The o ring I'm talking about is on the inside top of the pump housing. That's why you have water leaking from split at the lower unit. Besides that (witch is everything) I enjoyed your video.
Maybe you should correct it?
What is the split?
Yes and then have to buy 3m 847 to keep it in place
Thanks for the video. I have a couple of questions. The gasket with the air silencer cover needs to be replaced on mine. Do I need gasket adhesive on it as well? Also, what’s the best way to get the shift and throttle cables back in place? I marked where it was when I started, but it isn’t easy getting them to sit back in place.
Don't you need any sealing compound inside the plastic casing before you put the metal case? Also isnt it easier to assemble everything first and the slide it down?
Ennio savini no and no. If you assemble everything it’s too much of a pain to line up the key. In my opinion
Only video of my motor on the interweb
You were not clear on the shifter disconnect. If the lower unit just drops down why disconnect the shifter?
And did you pull off the carbs completely to clean them or just as they are mounted?
the shifter connects to the lower unit
Nice job
On that key way did you have a little play from the impellar?
If I’m interpreting the question correctly, yes just the littlest bit
Well that was kind of depressing you didn’t show how you got the rubber impeller in the housing and he didn’t use any torque wrenches it’s like you bypass the difficult stuff
Where did you get the water impeller replacement kit? I have the same motor and want to do this before summer! Exactly video gives me the confidence to tear mine apart myself!
It’s not as easy project to take on for amateurs compared to other motors. You can get the kit from Amazon eBay online sellers/dealers or local marina (usually in stock in my area)
@@FerKurl I’ve worked on a bunch of motors myself I recently changed out a bunch of stuff on this motor already choke solenoid and stuff I’ve basically pulled the carbs off Aswell! Throttles cables are always tricky but with help I’m sure I got it!
Is that how I would do that for my 1987 Johnson 110 hp
Yep
