Evinrude water pump replacement

Water pump impellers wear out, at some time it will need replaced. You should keep a spare impeller on hand and replace it when you notice a reduction of water in the tell tail. I will show you how to make the replacement and what you might expect to happen.

Excellent video. Been searching forever for the knowledge you shared. Can you tell me more about the Drive shaft tube. I have the same motor. My water pump failed bad and melted the Drive shaft tube. Your vid is the only one that showed this. Thank you :)

Sweet. Gotta change the water pump on my Evinrude tomorrow. It's a 1978 or 1979 28hp Evinrude. Think they only made the 28hp 2cyl for 2yrs I heard.

Before removing the lower unit am I supposed to put the gear shifter all the way forward? So it stays in the proper gear when putting it back on. I have a 135 hp Johnson seahorse 4v. Thank you for your service

Have an 81 Evinrude 35... had it serviced by JJ"s Marine in Deland and runs beautiful. I bought a $225 Evinrude 35hp junker that fires up and took the lower unit off today. This video was a savior. Learned how the impeller has a key and the shaft has a slot for the key. Question: When you started your motor, the propeller was engaged and then quit rotating on its own, why is that?

the gear was in neutral, not sure why it turned, maybe the water running thru the system.

just the tell tail. mine is leaking from the micky mouse ears which makes it look like it is from the lower ports
