When he was three outs away I turned on MLB Network and I saw it happen live. PS I’m not an Astros or blue jays fan but I’m a Cubs fan but I still cheered for JV.

JV is great, yes. I'm from Detroit. Seen tons of Verlander. Gotta disagree with all the people saying he's top five all-time. I'm 43. He is borderline top 5 pitcher just in my lifetime. Just off the top of my head: Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, Nolan Ryan, John Smoltz... He still is definitely first ballot HOF in my book
Legendary, congrats to JV and the Astros defense. As a Rockies fan I wish we had just one pitcher with a quarter of his skill. Our pitching situation this year is so frustratingly awful there isn't a word to describe it.
This and another CY punches his ticket to Cooper's Town. The stats are there, they'll be better before he's done, but JV is the most dominant pitcher of his generation. Scherzer's doesn't have the years on top, and no one else has JV's durability. He's been on the IL once, and had off season surgery once, this hampered him for a season. But for 15 seasons he's been a horse and an ace, those two things don't always go together. 2 seasons with less that 200 IP: rookie and 2015 (injury). He's struck out over 200 9 times. That longevity of consistent excellence is HoFer. All the other contenders, might have a few of the hallmarks of dominance, but JV has them all.

I saw Verlander's first no hitter against the Blue Jays and sat in the 100 level along the first base side. For this game I came into work and finished off one of the Canadian broadcasts of this game in master control. I hadn't been following the game on the way to work and my coworkers who had started the game weren't big baseball fans. We had to scramble to figure out if we needed to add extra breaks for extra innings and pitching changes or if the game would finish earlier than expected and require filler material. Crazy times.
I believe when Nolan Ryan was with the Angels and they recorded that 100.9mph, it in the 9th inning. I seem to remember Ryan saying something about he got stronger as the game went on. Maybe it's how their arms work over a period of a game throwing that hard ?

The last time any MLB pitcher reached three no-hitters was 45 years ago with Nolan Ryan in 1974. Of course we know Ryan went on to get 4 more after the three. Still not a record easy to achieve especially with all the home runs and great hitters these days.

His last 5 years was the greatest stretch of pitching excellence in league annals. He won the pitching Triple Crown( wins/ ERA/Strike outs) 3 times. Averaged 26 wins. Won 3 Cy Young's and threw those 4 no hitters. He retired with 165 career wins but 103 of them came in his last 5 years.

I love Verlander, but does anyone else think it’s suspicious that he is having his best season at 36 years old? I’m a Tigers fan and I’ve followed his career closely and it was awesome to watch his prime, in which he won an MVP and led a stacked Tigers staff. But then he declined big time. He really struggled for a few years and his velocity was way down, but then for some reason his velocity returned and he peaked again, and now he’s dominating everyone. Now he throws a no-hitter with 120-some pitches, still throwing 97mph in the 9th. People don’t usually peak a second time in their mid-30s with an increase in velocity naturally. Verlander is one of my favorite players, and I really hope not, but it sure seems like he’s getting help from PEDs.
