it's what makes it beautiful. I can almost bet you his dad was there every step and was there watching him playing in middle school, little league, high school, college, minor and then finally the show. And his debut is a no hitter which is historical. Amazing and I'd be proud if I were his dad.

As a Dbacks fan we really needed something to get excited about this season. With that being said, that’s maybe the luckiest no hitter I’ve ever seen. 75% of those outs were squared up right to guys. Love it
I wouldn’t say luckiest no hitter ever cause there’s been so many no hitters and perfect games saved by dozens of diving catches and a few by home runs being robbed. but yes overall very lucky that the defense was in the perfect position on basically every single line drive
Cardinals fan here. Congrats to Tyler Gilbert and the D-Backs fans. An amazing, historical performance! Only one other pitcher since the late 1800s has pitched a no-hitter in his first start, and that was in 1953, I believe.
Actually, I read that Gilbert is the 4th pitcher to do so. Gonna research that now. Edit: Yes, four pitchers accomplished this, two in the 1890's. Bumpus Jones of the Reds threw one in 1892 and was the only one of the four to do so in his very first appearance, the other three had appeared as relievers previously. Also, Jones' no-hitter was on Oct. 15, the latest in the year one was ever thrown. Ted Brittenstein of the St. Louis Browns thew one on the last day of the 1897 season, Oct. 4. This was the old Browns of the American Association, which folded after the season. The Browns, however, resurfaced in the National League as the Cardinals. The other pitcher from the modern era to accomplish this was Bobo Holloman in 1953 for the OTHER St. Louis Browns of the American League. That was his only year in the Major Leagues. His no-hitter was similar to Gilbert's in that his stuff wasn't over-powering. Browns owner Bill Veeck descibed it as such: "the quaintest no-hitter in the history of the game," saying that Holloman’s pitches were "belted" all night, but he was saved by luck and outstanding defense.
The fact that a pitcher making his first start for the worst team in baseball threw a no hitter against a borderline playoff team, yikes 😬😬. Padres are gonna hear about this for a while
I feel like we needed this type of wake up call, our team has been going through the motions and hasn’t played with the same type of energy as last year
So cool man! Just to see his dad right there to share it with him was awesome! I never made it to pro levels by any means but having my dad at all my sports games growing up was everything. This hit me
My dad never attended a single game of mine even though we lived a 1/4 mile from the ballpark. That's why the final scene in Field of Dreams gets to me every time.

Looks like Marte was so pumped he was about to chuck that ball as far he could before he realized what he was doing. How cool, his old man being there is the cherry on top of the story.
See that's why baseball is so beautiful. This game has been around for 150 years and this has only happened 4 times. You just never know when you're going to witness history but if you watch it will eventually happen. Congrats to Tyler!
The funniest part of this is how the dad literally just got more red the deeper the game went. Must've been the most nervous/exciting thing he's ever seen.
Check it out...this guy knows how to pitch. With all the emphasis on power-fastball pitchers trying to strike out every batter, it's nice to see a throwback pitcher missing barrels, using his defense and keeping the game moving at a fast pace.
@@jennamiller6522 Nah, it's a simple fact. And I have no investment in either of these teams. Padres kept making contact. Defense was on their A game for sure, but no way can you say that a good amount of luck wasn't required in order to not allow a single hit. It's often the case. The fact that no-hitters are so rare in baseball is evidence enough that luck has to be involved. You need A LOT of things to happen right.
@@mike_majora i was kidding. i agree that most if not all no hitters/ perfect games need A LOT of luck and for the infield and outfield to be in perfect position and make amazing plays
Yea I wonder if there's a resource that's ranked no-hitters by luck. We have expected batting average as a stat, so theoretically we should be able to go through and calculate the approximate odds of each no hitter happening
For a no hitter, that was a ridiculous amount of contact!! Imagine if just one of those balls had dropped for a hit. So happy for Gilbert. Seems like he was destined to throw a no-hitter with that defense behind him.
Dude got absolutely WHACKED around and go the No-no. Love how anything can happen any given day in baseball. Dad's reaction made this entire video awesome.

Congrats to him and I promise I’m not someone who looks for the bad in something good but I’m just being honest when I say this is the luckiest no hitter I have ever seen by far.
