The title track was crazily nostalgic to me even at the time I first listened to it (I was about 15, 95 or thereabouts). Tiptoes is possibly my favourite track.
great video and review stripey ..... when I used to buy the madness singles when they come out I was always excited about listening to the b sides ......
Their best album in my opinion. I’ve said for years this is one of the most underrated albums of the 80s. The production, arrangements, lyrics, cover art, everything about this album is quality. Your correct, Madness were at the top of their game between 82 & 83 and this album was the high water mark of that imperial period. The reason for this album somewhat being overlooked by madness fans is simply because it was too much of a change in style from what had gone before and many fans couldn’t understand it back in 82.
A great review of an album I probably didn’t appreciate as much way back in my youth! I think Tomorrow’s Just Another Day was a AA release in its day, I have the original 7inch picture disc hidden away somewhere! Will be dusting down this album and giving it another listen or two. Cheers, Simon👍
Hi mate look at you :)... Or is it you LOL!!! Looking good mate!!! O SO NICE YES!!!!!! I really love this Album a lot just a good one. I am starting to look for the new one!!! Love the gatefold on this one. I have a DVD of their promos and just so good too:). + just for fun Paul M. Win he first went out on Tour in 89. He was going to call the band Baggy Trousers after one of the songs my Madness. So, it does make sense that Paul meeting them mmm wow!! I sure do hope that you are doing well all the best to you mate and say hi to mate MRS ... From BB🤣cheers!!!!
Hey Beatle Brad, Yes it's me lol. It is an amazing record & has so many memories for me, plenty of nostalgia when I listen to it, these reissues are really good with excellent liner notes by the band. I hope all is well with you my friend. Thanks for stopping by 😉
Cheers Stripey, I agree marvelous album.... I just picked up the 1st UK pressing of Baggy Trousers with alternative cover from the US version. Will be listening to both on my HI FI , Im Psyched!!
Great video Stripey.. Our House definitely my favourite track on this album..... I know from time to time you ask for album recommendations for future videos. I know the Cockney Rejects just brought out a new album "Power Grab" which is awesome. Could you do a Cockney rejects video in the future???? COYIs..!!!!
The erstwhile Chas Smash usually pronounces his forename Irish-fashion - sounds like "Carl". The first Madness album with a vague concept, and the first to make much use of string arrangements and other extras. The Pepper comparison is apt, and as one of the minority who actually really liked the next two albums, I think we can just about sustain the Beatles metaphor (KM: White Album, MNM: last-chapter dramas) Those record-labels with illustrations are usually a mark of over-ambition - there's lots of famous/infamous examples but it always reminds me of a certain concept album which I shan't name, where the text on that side was illegible because the titles were so long. There's so many stories of bands who shouldn't get on well bonding over a game of Space Invaders - or pool - or both. I can't remember who it was, some old-school rock band, that got into a very competitive pool championship with Depeche Mode and their singer was "given a good thrashing by the man in the rubber dress"
Regarding the sticker on the centre of the vinyl itself, my 1982 pressing has a colour version of the outer sleeve photograph with the text placed over the top on side A. The B side has the inner photograph but printed in the sepia style of the outer sleeve, also with text overwritten. Both of these photos are slightly different versions of the main images with Chris reclining in his chair on the vinyl sticker version for instance. The colour print of Barso would probably not be reproduced today due to political correctness if you know what I mean.
Hi mate, all well? This album and Norton Folgate are two very mature Madness Albums. The Night And Fall is quite a nice album but I like Norton Folgate more, comparing these 2 albums. But maybe I shouldn't compare them. Take care, mate
Hi Mate, I love all Madness records as you know,. Folgate is their masterpiece but Rise & Fall is a superb record. I'm really enjoying these reissues 👍
Hi Stripey, I have the Total Madness compilation on CD, and I thought that’s all I would need, but watching your videos has made me want to start collecting the studio albums. Which one would you recommend I get first?
Favourite Madness album along with Folgate.

Hi Stripey thanks for turning me on to Tom Waits love it
A pleasure Robert, I may be doing a Tom Waits ramble the next couple of days 😉
Phenomenal record, definitely a darker and more experimental experience compared to the rest of their albums - I love it though!
It is indeed mate, I really enjoyed doing this play.
Cheers Pal 👍
Excellent review, love the Madness reviews!
Thank you, me too 👍

Stage one. Stage two. 👍
A preferred the early ska stuff myself but a still like to give this album a listen
I love The Rise and Fall, as I do the first three albums as well, but The Liberty of Norton Folgate is my fav.
cheers pal

Hey bud, a good place to start is at the beginning, "One Step Beyond"
The sound quality on all the madness albums is top notch ,everything crystal you can hear every thing
100% Peter

Definitely different from previous stuff
Definitely, Grant, bit still an awesome album 👌
I was playing the album only last week, where did you get the t shirt Stripey?
It's a great album 👌
I've had this shirt for years, I think one of my children bought it for me.
Our House was a hit in America and yet the LP wasnt released in America?
Import only. Most good record stores stocked it at the time.
