Great video and review. I LOVE Madness. As an American, we picked up on all these ska and punk bands from the UK on shortwave listening to pirate stations and Radio Luxemburg (MTV was not yet here). I remember One Step Beyond and had to find this band. Baggy Trousers was so different than the fare we had here. While I loved classic Rock and was finding punk and even post-punk, too much music here was bland, cookie cutter or disco, and I LOATHE disco. My friends and I even did the madness strut, and no one had a clue what we were doing. Thanks for the memories... and yeah, it's been 42 years. Heck, I am a grandfather now and talking like my grandfather when I was little. "I remember when...." Cheers, Stripey!

I didn't expect this anytime soon, I've recently rewatched all your Madness content as I'm getting back into them (I stopped listening to them a few years ago when my grandad passed away, he was a big fan and my best friend so it just hurt listening to them) but now I'm back into them
This album is my favourite album of all time, it flows so perfectly and all the songs are arranged so bloody well (and are more complicated than people give them credit for), glad to see you do this please do more Madness! :)

    Hi mate,
Madness, to me, is always music to give one a smile.
    Happy music.
Your video about The Liberty Of Norton Folgate made me buy the vinyl and I think it's quite different to the rest of their catalogue. A strong album it is.
In general Madness is nice to hear evertime a song is played on the radio or so.
    Take care.

Hey Pe Ke, I hoope all is well with you. The Liberty Of Norton Folgate is Madness' masterpiece in my opinion, I'm glad you got the record for your collection.
These remasters are really cool & I'm enjoying collecting them a lot.

Good video Stripey. As a young’un I didn’t grow up with Madness but enjoy plenty of their songs!
I did get to dance along to baggy trousers at a silent disco which whisked me away to another time and made me think of my old man, who’s no longer here! Happy memories for sure. All the best Stripey

Hi Stripey - another great review - I bought that same record in the last few months - had an original that was a bit worst for ware (not the first pressing with the alternate cover). This is the album that really got me on to Madness and hence has always been my favourite. It’s great to hear a fellow Madness enthusiast - can’t wait for the next review!

Great video again mate. Those first three albums for me are top drawer. I first pricked my ears up to the band when one step beyond came out. Absolutely though again superb. Think disappear should’ve been a single not the the naff lol Palmas 7 lol.
On the 2009 double cd theirs a gig on the second disc at Hammersmith palace from 24-12 80. Quite poignant for me as I saw them at leics demonfort hall 3 day’s previously. Cost a mere £1! Was a matinee show and I was 14 and a half, bedecked in me crombie and tonic staprest strides. Was blown away. The music never leaves you. Still remain one of my fave bands.

Absolutely, is a superb album and still sounds as good as it did in 1980. Baggy Trousers was the track that got me m into Madness, the rest is history.

The 3 CDs my parents always played in the car as a kid were abba, billy joel, and madness. Listened to this album a while ago and enjoyed it but got a bit bored near the end. Listened to it again because of your video and loved it. Im hooked by the piano riff on disappear. Cheers Stripey

Been having some issues with the 180 gram vinyl, lots of crackling. I don't have the same problem with my non 180 gram vinyl. Anyone else have the same problem? Great review, always thought Crying Shame should of been on the album, such a great B Side to Embarrassment.

    • @StripeyR
      @StripeyR  2 роки тому +2

Cheers mate, I've had no cracking on my 180gm records, well maybe the odd one but largely nope.
Crying Shame is a fantastic track but I guess with In The Rain & You Said there was enough break up tunes...maybe. I remember a british film called Party Party had Crying Shame on the soundtrack bloody brilliant.
