    This is why UA-cam is the greatest. You get on to look for a Van Halen video and 3 hours down the rabbit hole I’ve stumbled upon these guys. So I suppose tomorrow I will have to buy a bottle of single malt whiskey from the Scottish island of Isyla. Crazy

      Did you bought one then? Islay whisky is great!

    Two years ago I was curious about peated whisky. Looked around the supermarket and saw the Ardbeg 10. Without any knowledge, I took the plunge into my FIRST peated whisky. The rest is history. Love it forever. Although I have the Ugi and An Oa in my stash, too, I prefer the "no-nonsense" character of the A10 over those. (I'm calling it A10 on purpose, comparing it to the tough, non-nonsense capability of the A-10 "Warthog" aircraft). Have tried other brands of peated whisky, too, but ... nahhh ... A10 is, as put on the label, the ULTIMATE. Happy dram-ing!

    Thank you, I just opened my own Ardbeg 10 and followed along with you. I like strong flavors such as dark chocolate, espresso, Russian Imperial Stout, Cabernet, blue cheeses...so this is right up my alley, Just a sip lasts for 10 minutes, and the smoke is pleasant not a bad smoke (I have never been a smoker and really hate the smell of cigarettes). The lingering effect is just amazing to me. Also, the smoke is much more from the taste than the smelling for me. Ardbeg owes you guys, because it was your videos that had me give Scotch a try. BTW first Ardbeg 10 was at a restaurant and was $18 for a dram, the entire bottle cost me $48 at the store. Local restaurant has Lagavulin 16 for $26 a dram, and its $76 for the bottle when on sale. Crazy restaurant markups, much more than wine.

    My god…how have I just now tried an islay whiskey after all these years. The flavors in the Ardbeg 10 are spectacular. I’m currently sipping it with a nice cohiba Dominican. I will definitely be trying all the other popular single malts such as laphrpoig and laguvalun.

    Well I just scored a bottle of the Ardbeg 10 and upon nosing it I do smell an asphalt freshly laid tar scent. The taste is unique to me and is something I will have to get used to. Right now to me the Ardbeg 10 for someone who has smoked but doesn't anymore. The majority of the taste I get is smokey ash taste. You can get the taste of your cigarette and more with the Ardbeg 10 but no ill effects. Rather interesting.

    My favorite islay whisky. Very well balanced and rounded. Smoky, smooth, sweet, a hint of oak. Lovely dram.

    Just bought a bottle of the 10 and drinking it for the first time now - very drinkable - light on its feet for something so smokey and spicy - this might become my goto - it's peaty but no stronger to my palate than laphroaig - and the good news, this one has no added color and no chill filtering... I love the father/son team here - so much fun drinking while watching them review it!

      I find Ardbeg less medicinal, petier and much more flavours. Laphroaig is very medicinal and have to concentrate to pickup all tastes. I usually have a dram of laga here and there but it is not my favorite, but i do have a bottle. Cheers!!

    This was excellent! Your son was describing everything I was tasting but didn't know how to put into words. This is my first Islay malt. I wish the idea of peated whisky didn't intimidate me so much, I feel like I have some serious ground to cover

    I know its very smoky but i really detected heavy ocean influence, im surprised you didnt picked it up. I get Ocean winds with a hint of sea salt, smoke and when you leave the glass to dry you get a very soft vanilla with some citrus...maybe lime?

  • @michaelcharlesthearchangel
    @michaelcharlesthearchangel 3 роки тому

    Nose:
    Heavy minty peat smoke in sea mist & tanned leather, hints of Scotch heather settling into a light chocolate-vanilla syrup & Irish moss on cast-iron-reduced tree fruit
    Palate:
    Smoked dark fruits & charred berries with a citrus squeeze, fresh baseball glove leather, ancient wood, cacao nibs giving way to ginger snaps
    Aftertaste:
    Oak, clove & spices, black pepper, natural rope, aged leather with cigar tobacco

    Which tastes more smoky, Laphroig 10 or Ardbeg 10?
    Never tried ardbeg...

    • @redletterl78
      @redletterl78 6 років тому

      Cloud Strife
      I think Laphroig is more outright smoky, but Ardbeg 10 might be slightly more refined and lighter.

    • @andrzejnowojski8451
      @andrzejnowojski8451 6 років тому +7

      In my opinion: Ardbeg is more smoky, tar, pitch

    • @Twest91x
      @Twest91x 6 років тому +2

      Ardbeg for sure! If we're strictly talking about both the 10's.

    • @painterchi3034
      @painterchi3034 6 років тому +4

      Different kind of smokiness. Laphroaig 10 has rawer smokiness, the peat is more one dimensional and more in your face. It is more citrus too. Ardbeg 10 is more wet smokiness, ashtray-like peat, more complex and deeper. The body is fuller. I would say Laphroaig is more light, young and simple. Ardbeg is more complex and heavier.

    Ardbeg ten and laga 8 taste almost exactly the same to me but i would have to put Ardbeg ahead by a smidgen.. laga 16 is king of all standard bottling in any whisky (for me) cant wait to try the uigeadail next!

  • @NeilAC78

    I remember buying this when it first hit the shelves in around 2001. It seemed very young, had no colour yet was light and extremely peaty. I very much doubt it was really a 10 year old considering the distillery had only just re-opened a few years earlier... I'm interested in revisiting this one now in 2018 to see how its evolved.

  • @beardedred0032

    In my area laphroaig 10 is 30 bucks, ardbeg 10 is 65-70, and lagavulin is also 70. Hard to justify double price for ardbeg 10 over laphroaig 10 an even harder to not just buy laga16 for the same price. Too bad laph10 isn't uncolored and non chilfiltered.

    • @AnimeReference
      @AnimeReference 6 років тому +1

      Here Ardbeg is $90 and Laphroaig is $95. I would only ever but them on sale after tasting them first. I did pick up a bottle of Ardbeg recently for seventy something dollars, but the bottle must be leaky or something. There's less in the bottle every time I look at it.

      I'm a huge Laphroaig fan, but I have to say this Ardbeg 10 is the best standard whisky I've ever had. If you can't get a 10yr Laphroaig cask strenth then this is the next best thing IMO.

    Ardbeg 10 ...well I bought this two days ago after tying laphroig 10 and here’s my quick review on both!
    I’ll start with laphroig 10.... it’s 40% in England but for me it doesn’t distract from the taste . Yes you have smoke and peat , but there’s so much more . Medical , salty, band aid , and a lingering finish.
    Ardbeg 46% is smoke , peat and burn. Water down and it’s smoke , peat and less burn . Ardbeg is a very one dimensional dram , and I personally don’t like it.
