I haven't done any transcribing for probably years? This is a fun and cool practice. This song is so good, I can't even describe it. The structure itself is fairly simple and the melody as well, but how it interweaves with its arrangement is so fabulous. Oh, and not forget the vocals ZUN used.
It is definitely something that he would impulse buy when he was drunk and thought, “Man, I should use this somewhere” and it fits so, so well. Haunting, spooky, and it is something you never would've expected in a Touhou song.
You know something else is haunting? The keyboard layout for the sample library the voices came from (Mongolian Voices - Ancient Phrases). It is a travesty, a disaster even, what were they thinking, it took a while to find the samples used and even still there is one I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it is.
I'm happy I got it semi accurate.
Zanmu's character is also interesting, but I haven't delved too deeply yet.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! Its great to see you come back, and the way you annotate the chord and key is always soo helpful, as someone who wants to analyze why Touhou music sounds so good. I'm also surprised you got the vocals so accurately, Karl's version was a little different.
Also my only gripe about this theme is that he never adds any syncopation or rhythmic variations to the chorus melody, it would've been way better than it already is with just a little bit of variation.
