You're welcome, glad you enjoyed! We do have a full walkaround of an M240i on our channel. The iDrive 8 system will be slightly different, but mostly the same. Anything specific you would like more explanation on or have questions about?
I love the futuristic look and feel of these new screens! I delayed my order for an m240i specifically because I wanted the iDrive 8. There is one thing I feel is lacking though and it’s the variety of the gauge clusters! With an infinite amount of design options why are all of them of them sticking to this “revs rotate counter clockwise” scheme? I kinda hate that. I wish they could have given us at least one graphic design of “traditional” looking gauges just to meet old-school fans halfway at least! Do you think a graphical update such as this would be possible or in the works? Or will we forever be stuck with the options that are here from the start? Thanks!
Congrats on your order! The M240i is a fantastic car. I think you're really onto something with an "old school" cluster design option. As you said, we have literally infinite options for gauge layout with ID8. I am hoping BMW will release a software update that introduces something like this, but we shall see! It's certainly possible with remote updates, just a matter of if they'll do it.
@@bmwofmorristown9038 Inifinite options you say. Glad to hear there is a option to remove the stupid screens and go back to something better or "old school"
I cannot believe they removed the preset buttons. Being able to program those to anything in the system was one of the best car features ever. I am going to miss that tremendously. I am an audiophile and had one programmed to the EQ and another to the bass and treble settings. These are buried many levels in the menu. Does the new system have anything like this? Quick shortcut links that you can save to get you back to any screen in the menu?
@@MitchM240 Yeah I can't really wrap my head around that. That is a really stupid decision, it was a hallmark BMW feature, something simple but oh so freakin' awesome to use. That and the move away from the halo/angel eye/circular daylight running lights are two things they should have never abandoned but simply updated to modern standards. Oh well, as long as they can save a few bucks on the production costs I guess... or something... By the way, I also had one of those buttons programmed to my (Harman Kardon) equalizer and another to bass and treble. There are a kind of shortcuts yes, but they're far from as handy as the 8 physical buttons. Swipe down from the top of the center screen to open a menu and you can set some shortcuts there, though I haven't used it yet since I just got my car yesterday
@@MitchM240 there is a shortcut with the iDrive controller in center console. You push up to open a shortcuts menu the select one of four shortcuts. Obviously not ideal but that’s what there is.
@bmwofmorristown9038 ty for the reply. I'm in the USA but can't get it. Tried w/ Acc Only on, engine fully running, & car off buy still getting power for radio/windows until you open the door. Tried w/ radio starting in on position & off position all ways. Even timed to 90 secs on my watch. No go & nothing online or in the manual. 🤔 My guess is the big hv battery makes it different
@@BIGLARRY100 Interesting. I double checked with our rep from BMW and he confirmed this is the correct process. Perhaps there's a hiccup in your software, that might need dealer attention.
What about screen mirroring as it was in I Drive 7? My father has the I4 M50 and I'm surprised I can't watch netflix or anything, or am I missing something? Thanks
Not as the car comes from factory, but with past iDrive systems there have been aftermarket solutions for this. I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for iDrive 8.
This display will be the ruin of BMW enthusiasts. No gauge/display pod in an M car? I just canceled my deposit in line for a 2023 M2 with my dealer because of this CRAPPY computer monitor wedged onto the top of a blank dashboard - so sad
We see and totally understand the upset from enthusiast regarding the tech-forward iDrive 8 integration in M cars. It's a sharp departure from what we're used to. We also LOVE the old-school, gray faced, round M gauges that simply displayed pertinent info with two large round gauges for speed and revs, and auxiliary gauges for temp and fuel. However, car makers simply must stay up-to-date on tech trends. The M3 would be crucified in car media and news if it didn't have a digital cluster. "No gauge cluster screen in a $90,000 car? Unbelievable!" It would placate the small group of die-hards that love analog gauges, but everyone else would think that BMW is stuck in the past and unable to keep up with modern trends. So, this is the direction that we had to go, and luckily, BMW has done a great job with it. I strongly encourage you to get in touch with your dealer (or us, if you're local!) to check out M iDrive 8 in person before making a final judgement.
@@bmwofmorristown9038 I am fine with the digital, I loved idrive 7 in the 2020 330i I had. I just don't like the fact this makes it so flat and looks like an xbox home screen with the user interface (UI). The other looked cool and performed well, with never any issues in my experience. I don't want all these apps and garbage in the car, all it does is take up space and make it harder to do what you need and find what you need on the screen. Remember when iOS 7 came out with a completely different design and most people thought it was horrible? That's how I feel with idrive 8 - not the whole car tho, I love the new exterior design.
@@bmwofmorristown9038 BMW used to actually set the trends. Now they just follow silently, fearing someone will accuse them of not being able to keep up?
iDrive 8 requires different hardware, mainly the screen, so a retrofit would be very difficult and costly. It would also require updating to the LCI dashboard, adding to the complexity of a retrofit. So the short is no, it’s not possible.
So you could only have one thing in the dashboard at a time now? That seems like a step back in idrive 7 I could have my map in the middle while the album art is displayed on the right. Based on what you showed it looks like now you could just have one or the other is that correct??
I wanna know the overall length and width of the screen!
14.9" across according to BMW
When a warning symbol appears in the instrument cluster (triangle with exclamation point inside), how do you display what the warning message is?
In that case, you would want to go to vehicle status, and look through the check control messages.
Does using apple car play mapping system show in the HUD, as the older versions of Idrive never worked.
In the instrument cluster, not the HUD.
Thank you so much for this!
You're welcome, glad you found the video helpful!
How to do autofold mirrors when locking doors?
It's a setting under doors and vehicle access.
Hey, is it possible to access the Interior Camera from the my BMW app from any time you want?
Yes, it is!
@@bmwofmorristown9038 Okay, and does it pick up any audio?
@@Simon_Dev That's a good question. I do not believe it does, but say with certainty. We haven't had a chance to test the remote interior camera yet.
Thank you for detail video, can you make one for 240i 2023 cause some of menu items are not there in my vehicle, thank you in advance!

How do u reset the idrive in the i8? Vol button doesn't do it. Ty
It is still done by holding volume button with engine running. This may vary market to market, if you're not in the US.

Does it still have sport + mode or just sport now?
No sport plus "mode" but there are sport plus configurations available for some of the customizable drive settings.
Does the idrive 8, in the M3, have augmented reality?
It does, it shows arrows in real time with a live view on the center screen.
Does the one in the M240 have it as well?

The home screen still functions as a sort of split screen display, as it did with iDrive 7.
