How good was George Best actually? #GOAT
New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on George Best who played for Manchester United for most of his career, not only one of the greatest forwards of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how George Best ranks and just how good was he.
He saved Man Utd, but later on, he needed someone to save him.
Rest in peace legend!
RIP legend 🏴

@@leesusphinx7857 oh yeah is their an Irish flag

I'm afraid even given a second chance he couldn't be saved. By then he was only a shadow.
If Best had not drank and practiced hard he would be beyond comparison. He accomplished everything as a soccer player half drunk on the field, that's how talented he was.
Football
but perhaps if he wasn't half drunk he could not have done it. not drinking and training is part of the job. Besides that: he was indeed brilliant.
Idk, he might have been fully drunk.
Without your demons you don't have your angels.
You can have an opinion while calling it soccer
In another documentary about George Best I saw (might have been one of those "Football's Greatest" ones), he did at one point suggest that immediately after winning the European Cup he was personally hungry for more success and trophies, but he looked around and felt like for everyone else, that victory was the end of the journey, the end of their ambitions. He then stuck around still because of a fondness and loyalty to Matt Busby and the club. Seeing the club's winning qualities decline, his own professional ambitions declined also.
I also heard somewhere the suggestion that his "playboy lifestyle" was actually more lucrative for a while than his professional football career. Being a face got him appearance fees, advertisements and god knows what else. Even if that isn't exactly true, it is easy to see how a young man's head might get turned considering football alone wouldn't have been making him rich anyway.
I am a lifelong United fan who grew up watching the 1960s team. George Best was one of the best players of all time. He would be a world class player in any era.
Who played the most like him in the last 30 years? Only seen highlights.

Out of all these top players , George was by far the best tackler . He was always robbing players of the ball and could dribble with both feet which I haven’t seen a lot . He didn’t have tricks he had balance and a complete mastery of the ball . At George of the Best , patron Saint of the greedy
bryan robson did the same too
bro he was deemed as greatest player by pele at a time when pele wasn't a drunk deluded person
can anyone tell me about his vision and passing?
@@masrafiafnanroblox7710 he was a great passer of the ball when he wanted but sir Matt had one vision for him , be a marauder of defences ,score goals . His team
Talks consisted of go out and enjoy yourselves and give the ball to George . He was their match winner
@@pendragonfilmcomplete rubbish! He didn't always just run at teams he was always passing
A shame he never got to play in a World Cup. One of the best of all time, top 10 for me!
If you’re just going off ball control, talent, and skill then he’s easily only behind Pele and Messi in his prime but his prime is over everyone else it was that good even Pele called him the best in the world
He’s better than Messi.. top 5 definitely
@Ohanftbl So Messi is worse than top5?
George best is one of the best players of all time he could play in the centre and on both the flanks an all rounder good passing great speed close control dribbling and amazing agility and above all an amazing football mind
Man I'm addicted to your content. Really wholesome stuff. My suggestion is that you do 1. Pipo Inzaghi 2.Patrick Kluivert 3.Pep Guardiola 4. Robie Fowler
Thanks so much! I'll add those to my list
Truly the most gifted player to ever exist. Had potential levels beyond messi and ronaldo. He just couldn’t reach that potential to it’s full extent and he will be remembered in all of football for years to come. RIP
Of course he reached his potential 😂 he won a ballon dor fgs!

I remember George Best as a young child, there was nobody like him.
Are u like 70 or something?
I was lucky enough to see George play [for real] during the late 1960's and early 1970's. He was by far the best player I have ever seen. Simply mesmerizing. Even in a star-studded team that featured the brilliance of Dennis Law, Bobby Charlton and Paddy Crerand, George was on another level. He could do things with the ball that no other player at that time could do.
I became a life-long Manchester Utd fan [even though I'm from the Midlands], grew my hair long and modeled myself on George as a young boy at school. I would wear the iconic blood red long-sleeve Utd shirt [gripping the cuffs, Best-style] whenever I played. I became a pacey left-sided winger and once scored 5 goals in a school match.
People use the word 'genius' lightly these days - but nobody in football deserves that title more than George Best. He single-handedly revolutionized the game and inspired countless young boys just like me. Thank you George.
There are countless better players than him

Teardripping documentary, this. How fame and glory can change even the greatest talent of them all. Maybe things would have been different, if he had another citizenship (Northern Ireland, of course, never reached far) - but then again; a humble and shy teenager couldn't resist all the temptations of life. One of the top ten greatest players of all time. And a gentleman, as well. Rest in peace, George Best!

Such a fantastic player. Love watching his videos on UA-cam.
Absolute Genius, Like the others, Maradona, Socrates and even Pele. great at Fooltball but still Searching. Makes me cry a little.
Sorry, Maradona was a cheat and a criminal. He should be banned from any list of fair players.
Can you do just how good was Denis law
As a northern Irish man I am very proud
you paddies/ulstermen gave the world the worlds greatest footballer ever [God i wish he had been English] you also had arguably the best British goalkeeper in Pat Jennings well it was a toss up who was the best goalie jennings or Banks. oh Best and Jennings shared a room for N/IRELAND
I think you underrated him in the trophy stat, you got to remember he was one of the youngest ballon d’or winners ever being the most important player in Man Us first ever european cup win.
He never reached his pinnacle
Absolutely mercurial talent
I love your work, here's a list of some names maybe you could do videos about if you have time I know it takes many hours to make videos, these are just suggestions to help you
Edgar Davids, Patrick, Kluivert, David Trezguet, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, David Villa, Davor Suker, Rudd Gullit, Raul, George Weah, Lothar Matthaus & Oliver Kahn
Thanks for the suggestions!
Footballs first superstar, that transcended the gsme of football, aka the 5th beatle.
I knew the story but you’re a great story teller and I thought I was hearing it for the first time
That was a completely different game back then. It was a combination of football and rugby. Technology and medicine were krapp back then so no growth hormones and especially absolutely no referee protection and no major big oil empires buying football clubs.
It was probably better for that.
Simply the best player .
what a video well done
Thanks!
The most gifted football player ever.
He’s up there yeh , but there’s not one definitive answer to it. Messi, r9 , maradona, pele
He was really extraordinary to speed and , dribbling . His games proved this . All football lovers of this world go to the field to enjoy football . All lovers like motion football , a football linked with speedy games and, dribbling as were always offered from his part , making foot ball so charming and full of excitement . But it is very unfortunate that he had the habit of drinking , which reached to such an extent that he collapsed last of all as learnt. His last days appeared very early . He disappeared from football at an early age . It was really sad .
Very interesting video!
I didn't know very much about Best, only that he is one of the best players to have ever played the game.
Could you make a video about Matthias Sammer - last German player to be Europe's F.O.T.Y. and by lot of people considered to be a better Libero than Beckenbauer?

@@willvicscar5910 The best ever!
I can tell you for sure, the commentator is not exaggerating. George Best was a phenomenon. People came to the stadium to see him, and only HIM play. Do yourself a favor and search for his name on UA-cam.
The Manchester United 1960s side, massively underachieved. Boasting three ballon d'Or winners ( Charlton, Law, Best ) . Two world cup winners ( Charlton & Stiles ). A top Scottish international in Crerand. They should have won numerous domestic league titles, FA Cups & at least have made it to at least, three to four European Cup Finals between 1963 to 1969. Two league titles wins. One FA Cup win & one European Cup win is a average return, for a side boasting so much talent...
Put *_that_* into perspective with Di Stéfano Real Madrid, five European Cup wins & numerous domestic league title wins. Cruyff Ajax, three European Cup wins & numerous domestic league title wins. Beckenbauer Bayern Munich, three European Cup wins & numerous domestic league title wins. C. Ronaldo four Real Madrid, Champions League Cup wins & one European Cup win with Man Utd & numerous domestic league title wins. Messi Barcelona, four Champions League Cup wins & numerous domestic league title wins & it's obvious how Man Utd & Best, way underachieved, compared to those other illustrious luminaries.
Best was an extraordinary player, with unbelievable ball coordinations & balance, which enabled him to pivot on a six pence away from defenders in tight tricky situations. Being brilliantly ambidextrous, allowed him to switch directions at a seconds notice. However, he wasn't able to carry Man Utd to the sort of European dominantion like the players i mentioned.
Don't forget they had to start from scratch after 58 munich disaster. Yet winning 3 balondor plus European cup is impressive
Well they would’ve won in 1966 if Best didn’t get injured for the semis, and they were robbed in the 1969 semi after Law’s goal was incorrectly disallowed. It was more difficult to win league titles back then when playing in Europe as travel was more difficult and squads were smaller.
If Best, Maradona and Ronald played in todays football, with no injuries or giving into their vices, they would blow Messi and Cristiano out of the water
The most skillful footballer I have ever seen. Not the best because football is a team game and he wasn't a team player.
But he played with poise and touch in a time where pitches were awful and defenders could kick you with impunity.
He had a good time I hope.
Can you please do just how good was zinidine zidane
Love Zidane, eventually I'll make that for sure
Thanks

George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best
nice videos tbh and definetly not easy to make... i would recommand doing a video about 2 of the best romania ever had. Gheorghe Hagi and Nicolae Dobrin who Real Madrid almost signed him. Thanks
Greatness is not determined by "Longevity". Mentality is not determined by what someone does off the pitch. Greatness is what you did on the pitch. Greatness is being able to do what No one else can do. His ability to keep balance and often speed and control whilst being hammered was other Worldly - no-one else could do that. Toughness is 10 not 9.
Creativity Timing and IQ are 10.. George is Best -R I P legend.
Sadly the drink got to George...if he'd stayed on the straight and narrow my own personal opinion is he was and could've been known as the greatest player that ever lived. He was mesmerising to watch, his presence on the pitch was beyond compare. He could play any position and was gifted with right and left foot excellence. I met someone who knew him and said he was fantastic and very, very shy. He truly was a genius and I miss him to this day, he was my childhood hero...RIP George.
Beautiful video.

Love the videos but, you should drop the ranking system asap. It always leaves me bitter at the end and it isn’t well flushed out at all. Otherwise it’s great and gives an insight to the careers of legends we may not have had the chance to witness fist hand.

I thiibk the score system is flawed because considering his short career he achieved so much. Maradona lasted longer which is why his stats are higher. Best had personality too, not just skill. I take ot from Pele...that is the only opinion that matters, forget the stats.
