At 15 he had the physique of a man. At 18, of a 29yr old professional footballer at his peak. He really was one of those players who peaked early. He had as much natural talent as Messi and Ronaldo and as much potential. You can question work ethic and lifestyle, but really it was the injuries. You're talking about a footballer who broke his foot 3 times before his mid-20s and still had a career that easily puts him in the top 5 English footballers ever: that's the testament to the level of his talent. He's the most natural footballer I ever saw with my own eyes. The speed, strength and technique, coupled with his speed of thought, aggression and complete lack of fear was insane. I remember, as he was breaking in to the Everton team, watching him come off the bench most weeks at around the 60 minute mark and he'd change the rhythm and tempo of the game every time. He'd just get the ball and be so direct: whatever was the most dangerous thing in that moment, he'd do; whether it be running at defenders, through balls, running in to the box or a long shot, whatever. He just terrified grown men. This boy. Sir Alex moulded him in to a more complete, better team player and Rooney always found ways to be effective but really, at Everton (1st spell) and the early days at United (before the injuries), you saw the player that could have been. The one who was just better than everyone on the pitch, every time. He was split seconds ahead of every opponent in every situation and I believe it was the injuries that robbed him of those split seconds and that those split seconds, they're the difference.
yeah I think his body-type and injuries played a big role in him not quite reaching the heights expected of him as a teenager - a three times broken foot before the age of 24 meant he lost some of that fearlessness with the ball, and his big frame made him less agile and quick off the block (although he was still very fast at full speed without the ball)

Wayne Rooney was an absolute MONSTER in his prime and it’s such a bummer to see that Rooney at his very best, might go down in history as one of the most underappreciated footballers.

Rooney is one of those players whose talent is only appreciated by his supporters and his fellow professionals; 99% of all the people who criticize Rooney are media personnel and/or those not good enough to play at a professional level. World class footballers who actually played with/against Rooney all say basically the same thing: in his prime he was unplayable, simply a monster on the pitch.

Giggs, Scholes, Ronaldo and Rooney. The four horsemen of Ferguson’s United. Arguably Rooney hit the hardest, even continuing their legacy into Mourinho’s stint. The club owes a lot to him staying even after Ferguson departed, beyond a legend for United!
for me he is the greatest to ever play the game. nobody comes close to how complete he was. could play any position at a world class level and didnt have a single weakness to his game.
One of my favorite players from my childhood. I remember he was on the cover of FIFA 08 with Ronaldinho. In my opinion he went down too early for big time football. I remember one season at United he had formed a strike attack alongside Ronaldo, Tevez and my compatriot Berbatov. Sometime after Ronaldo and Tevez left it didn't affect him properly mentally and he started to slowly collapse. United then brought in Chicharito and free agent Owen as replacements for Rooney, but they shifted him and played alongside Berbatov in attack. After winning the Premier League and turning down Futguson, he was already thinking about where he was going to bird his career and retire. Too bad for a player like Rooney that he gave up so early.
I would say he is that great because he got support from player much more underrated than him, Michael Carrick. I believed if England bring Carrick instead of Gerrard and Lampard, they would win much more
It's hard for me not to sound biased as I'm English, but Rooney was on another level at times. I genuinely think he could've played a role for any team or nation in the world. I remember watching Euro 2004 and beaming from ear to ear as he just played without a care in the world, had no fear and was backing it up on the pitch, dominating Lilian Thuram which was targeted as he had said some things about Rooney before the match. What kind of teenager in their first major tournament deliberately targets such a fine defender and then also gets the better of him 🤷♂️ I didn't buy into his hype as a teen but as he got older he could just do anything with the ball, everything absolutely world class and his goals were a real highlight reel, whether the overheader v City, halfway line goals, free kicks, that volley against Newcastle, all ridiculous. I honestly think we could've won Euro 2004 if he wasn't injured and I also believe that his sending off in 2006 was extremely harsh. I don't think Portugal were beating us either time with him on the pitch.
Hi,subscriber here. Can you make a video talking about Dwight Yorke? He was from Trinidad and Tobago. He played for Man United between 1998 and 2009,scoring 65 goals in 152 matches. He won the treble in the 1998-99 season.🙏❤
It was a treat getting to see him play live against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League. Eventhough Fener won against United that match with a bicycle kick from Moussa Sow in the first 5 minutes, by the end of the game Rooney scored an absolute banger from outside of the box and received a standing ovation. That day nobody cared that Zlatan and Pogba had come to Istanbul, we were excited to see Rooney play.
He was an incredible talent. Got to 3 European Cup finals in 4 years (could have beenn 4 in 5 if not for Kaka's greatest match in the 07 semi final) only losing to the greatest club side ever assembled. Won a lot of Premier League titles and record scorer for club & country. You can't really do much better unless you are GOAT material such as Messi or Ronaldo.
He's arguably one of the most naturally gifted footballers of all time. If Rooney had Cristiano Ronaldo's physique and genes, he probably would have been the greatest to have ever played the game.
messi and ronaldo had the glowing praise of their countries media behind almost 100% as always with england's media rooney got laughed at and slagged off, maybe if they would have let him just worry about playing football instead of how he talked and acted
He should have still be playing his lifestyle caught up to him. People like rooney makes you truly appreciate how great both Messi and Ronaldo are. Neymar, Hazard, Bale etc they all came after them and should have replace them but Messi and Ronaldo are the one still going strong. Consistency in top level football is the hardest thing to do.
Back in those days the 3 players I knew as a kid were ronaldo Messi and Rooney. And wazza became more iconic for me. Always giving his all for the team, playing various positions, sacrificing his main role in team for ronaldo to shine. Could defend, could attack, could playmake and assist could hit long shots like no other. Honestly to me he was better than ronaldo Messi as he was all rounder and could defend. I truly believed he could have battled out with Messi at the top if he was given main role instead of ronaldo as he could playmake and had great game iq. I even think he was the rightful rival to Messi. But alas destiny had its own way. My dream was to even think Messi Rooney play together which would have been a great treat to watch honestly. Their game iq together and insane synchro could have terrorized europe and become the best duo known to football world.
To say Rooney lacked the work ethic of Messi and Ronaldo is totally wrong. He worked harder than either of them on the pitch. Ronaldo worked harder in training and in the gym, that's for sure, but on the pitch, he never really helped his teammates when they lost the ball. The same could be said for Messi. Rooney was all over the pitch for the full 90 minutes and often dropped into midfield to allow other players to shine upfront; he was truly the definition of a team player.
@@broughy23I mean the lifestyle and the discipline of training, diet, focus on profession too Off pitch behavior is the reason why Ronaldo and Mesti became Goat... While Rooney just become another drunk hooligan who never got Proper Ballon d'or If only Rooney Had the mentality and professionalism of Alan Shearer, I believe he could surpass Ronaldo
@arielquelme If Rooney didn't work hard off the pitch, he would never have gotten near one of Sir Alex Ferguson's teams. The man shipped off Beckham because he thought he was spending too much time trying to be a celebrity, even though Beckham was a workhorse for the team.
All people do is judge Rooney but imagine being 16 and top of the tabloids, we all live life for the first time and he deserves respect and understanding
CR7 fanboys conveniently forget his role in getting Rooney that red card. The other 10 outfield Portuguese players could’ve easily achieved the same result, it was unnecessary for Rooney’s club teammate to get so involved. Before anyone claims it was gamesmanship, it wasn’t. It was a scumbag move.
Not a Man U fan, but he really was a fantastic player who has perhaps become the most humane manager ever, even if he has nothing to show for it. Absolutely excellent video.
Most of this is complete rubbish.. Rooney was incredible and carried United for a while.. meanwhile Cris fucked off to Madrid, can't blame him, but he wasn't carrying anyone.. it gave him freedom to do what he wanted.. ROONEY is the best English player ever to do it 👏🏻🏴 and one of the greatest ever.
My greatest memory of this guy was a game against Barca, mans was rumored to still be injured but was set to play He literally took a useless run away from the ball and 3 or 4 Barca players followed him leaving space for United to score their first This was testament to how feared this fat hooligan was And the crowd chants "Rooney! Rooney! Rooney!"
There were work ethic and lifestyle issues for sure. But he was also played too much as a young kid which resulted in the injuries. Cr7 and Messi were eased in over their first few seasons. Rooney was played every game until he would inevitably get hurt
An important aspect that this monologue does not mention is Rooney sacrificing himself for the team, by being played out of position to accommodate. Once he was played in his natural position the goals came rolling back.
We had a running gag amoung our mates that Ronney dips his feet in magic water before matches because almost every touch from him is either a goal or an assist. He was way ahead of Ronaldo as a young player and it only makes you wonder how far he'd have gone for not for those cases of serial injuries.
The irony of people saying you need to have a specific physique to find success in a sport arent very familiar with Wayne Rooney, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and ofc Shaq
Everybody is talented in their own way but most of them have don't care much about it....they care about the things that are coming from football but not the football...and nobody have the work ethic of Cristiano Cristiano is that sun who covers every stars that around him
Man U fans will always talk about the king cantona, but for me, its rooney. He'd always been there at up and down of Man United, even when they benched him and left him with new replacement striker, he always came back.

The first time i got a glimpse of Rooney, was when was playing for England in 2003 ( in a British bar in Vegas, which is where i live) i think it was against Greece,in a Euro qualifer? And i had to ask someone who the numero ( 9) was? And i received a strange look..
My favorite player of all time ❤

Under 1 hour gang $$$

Jobless gang u mean 😂
Bro😂
@thevoicezjtj-999 its 5pm on Saturday you 🤡
Calling him a fat hooligan is beyond insulting.
such a great video, Rooney was such a good player
"Soooo Listen to this" it feels weird not hearing it in the opening :C
He's arguably one of the most naturally gifted footballers of all time.
If Rooney had Cristiano Ronaldo's physique and genes, he probably would have been the greatest to have ever played the game.
Amazing video as always! Please make a video on Mats Hummels next (week 3)
Englands best footballer we have seen play 💯👌🏾
messi and ronaldo had the glowing praise of their countries media behind almost 100% as always with england's media rooney got laughed at and slagged off, maybe if they would have let him just worry about playing football instead of how he talked and acted
He was the reason I actually liked England as a football nation back then.
British media is and will always be the downfall of British Football
He has talked about not looking after himself at all during breaks so how can you think he gave his all and he pnly cared about money
But Rooney lacked the discipline And work ethics of the other two
Which is Why Rooney was never become the greatest football player
To say Rooney lacked the work ethic of Messi and Ronaldo is totally wrong. He worked harder than either of them on the pitch. Ronaldo worked harder in training and in the gym, that's for sure, but on the pitch, he never really helped his teammates when they lost the ball. The same could be said for Messi. Rooney was all over the pitch for the full 90 minutes and often dropped into midfield to allow other players to shine upfront; he was truly the definition of a team player.
@@broughy23I mean the lifestyle and the discipline of training, diet, focus on profession too
Off pitch behavior is the reason why Ronaldo and Mesti became Goat... While Rooney just become another drunk hooligan who never got Proper Ballon d'or
If only Rooney Had the mentality and professionalism of Alan Shearer, I believe he could surpass Ronaldo
Ya man imma die hard Ronaldo fanboy but I agree that was the most disgusting thing that Cristiano did to his so called bestfriend (Rooney)😢
Unsportmanship, any tittle or cup is worthless if u doin dirty tactics to your opponent
this guy is the greatest Premier League player of all time. debate with the wall.
Never won a golden boot but somehow outscored everyone. That’s quite the achievement right there.
Not a Man U fan, but he really was a fantastic player who has perhaps become the most humane manager ever, even if he has nothing to show for it. Absolutely excellent video.
0:45 euuhh.... sorry but did i hear that right? 114 goals in 29 matches ☠️🤯
Bro it's for u17
@@muhammed1896-z4bIt is but still that stat is nuts 💀.
Shows he was a man among boys
@@muhammed1896-z4bso ITS STILL IMPRESSIVE NO OTHER PLAYER HAS EVER DONE THAT
U11*@@muhammed1896-z4b
Most of this is complete rubbish.. Rooney was incredible and carried United for a while.. meanwhile Cris fucked off to Madrid, can't blame him, but he wasn't carrying anyone.. it gave him freedom to do what he wanted.. ROONEY is the best English player ever to do it 👏🏻🏴 and one of the greatest ever.
If he had half Ronaldos professionalism he would have been GOAT material....as 18 year olds Rooney was miles ahead
@fintanduffyable not everyone's bodies allows them, otherwise their would be hundreds of ronaldos 😂
Benzema did same after CR7 left Madrid
I breath heavily whenever I watch your videos. It's like I'm being chased or something.... Breath dude sheesh
Crazy to think of such a successful player still being ruined by injuries.
My greatest memory of this guy was a game against Barca, mans was rumored to still be injured but was set to play
He literally took a useless run away from the ball and 3 or 4 Barca players followed him leaving space for United to score their first
This was testament to how feared this fat hooligan was
And the crowd chants "Rooney! Rooney! Rooney!"
Rooney really was one of a kind. An absolute unit. A legend
There were work ethic and lifestyle issues for sure. But he was also played too much as a young kid which resulted in the injuries. Cr7 and Messi were eased in over their first few seasons. Rooney was played every game until he would inevitably get hurt
Truly world class. Name another player at 17 years old ripping top flight teams to pieces at such a young age aside from Ronaldo9.
Rooney is literally the player that made me fall in love with the sport and with Man United and thanks to him I’m a red devil for life
An important aspect that this monologue does not mention is Rooney sacrificing himself for the team, by being played out of position to accommodate. Once he was played in his natural position the goals came rolling back.
WAYNE ROONEY WAS AMAZING.🔥.
Rooney could make anyone fall in love with football
He was Gazza 2.0 but with a fulfilled career
Fans and media are so quick to turn on athletes, forgetting that they are human
Man it was a joy to watch Rooney play
They weren’t at Old Trafford when they got the news of Aguero’s goal. They were at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light
11:06 I was at the game against hull. First and only time at old trafford
We had a running gag amoung our mates that Ronney dips his feet in magic water before matches because almost every touch from him is either a goal or an assist. He was way ahead of Ronaldo as a young player and it only makes you wonder how far he'd have gone for not for those cases of serial injuries.
So, you know what upsets me? When the video doesn't start with "So, listen to this..."
Genius. But the difference in lifestyle is what brings injury and ultimately true greatness.
The best player in EPl history ❤
Beckham and Owen got me watching football but Rooney was the one who made me want to play the game.
“Outscored everyone” Alan Shearer! 🤦🏼♂️🤣
When? Rooney was never a top goalscorer. His problem was he was never a great striker or creative/skillful enough to play just behind or AM.
rooney the goat fr fr
His dribble against turkey pre euro 2004 cemented him as a great for me. Easily as good as gazza
We need a video on Kroos
One of a kind, literally football player
The irony of people saying you need to have a specific physique to find success in a sport arent very familiar with Wayne Rooney, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and ofc Shaq
This video title is fucking ruthless 😭😂😂
imagine man united got prime ronaldo, van persie, and rooney playing together
Everybody is talented in their own way but most of them have don't care much about it....they care about the things that are coming from football but not the football...and nobody have the work ethic of Cristiano
Cristiano is that sun who covers every stars that around him
I don't even like football but was hooked all the time
He is also an incredible manager. As UTDs latest flop fails, Rooney must be called back.
Man U fans will always talk about the king cantona, but for me, its rooney.
He'd always been there at up and down of Man United, even when they benched him and left him with new replacement striker, he always came back.
Without a doubt Wayne was amazing especially as teenager
Reading from Wikipedia in an anime voice does not make you an annoucer or an expert in any channel. But great energy. This video also could have a eurodance music over highlights.
I hated him for years for that dive that ended our invincible. But he was the best player
"You were the chosen one. It was said you would destroy United not join them! Bring balance to the league. Not leave it in darkness." Everton fans in 2004
Day 6 of asking Daily Dose to make a video on the forgotten ballon d'or winner Matthias Sammer
The first time i got a glimpse of Rooney, was when was playing for England in 2003 ( in a British bar in Vegas, which is where i live) i think it was against Greece,in a Euro qualifer?
And i had to ask someone who the numero ( 9) was? And i received a strange look..
But i was back in England in 2004 & to me,after watching his debut for Man U ( when he scored 3) and in the Euro's,he was most def the best ' All Round' player in the world ( he took the piss out of the French team)
Only Premier League player in history to tally 200 goals and 100 assists in the toughest league in the world
