Lyrics
He's in love with rock'n'roll woaahh
He's in love with gettin' stoned woaahh
He's in love with Janie Jones
But he don't like his boring job, no...
An' he knows what he's got to do
So he knows he's gonna have fun with you
You lucky lady!
An' he knows when the evening comes
When his job is done he'll be over in his car for you
An' in the in-tray lots of work
But the boss at the firm always thinks he shirks
But he's just like everyone, he's got a Ford Cortina
That just won't run without fuel
Fill her up, Jacko!
An' the invoice it don't quite fit,
There's no payola in his alphabetical file
This time he's gonna really tell the boss
Gonna really let him know exactly how he feels
It's pretty bad!
Let them know - how you feel
Martin Scorsese recently came out and said this is the greatest british punk song of all time. That’s high praise.
That's why I looked it up
It's not though.
I agree. Fucking fantastic!
@@chuckiec20 "Babylon's Burning" & "Love Battery" have to be up there IMO
Thats why he used it in one of his best films
This album singlehandedly got me into punk rock... And thank god for that.
Yeah! Remember being a kid in 1985, and hearing it for the first time...was just like Fuck yeah! Logged so many hours listening to it in my room after being peeled by my parents for one thing another! Made it so worthwhile! Was just Sublime!
Rocket To Russia did it for me, but this was a close second.
This LP and The Ramones "Rocket To Russia" saved me from a life of musical mediocrity.
Same here!
sameee
Gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. Still does. This Lp was the Clash at their very best.
Nah London Calling is the Clash at their peak
I don't know a lot about this band but I know I really #LOVE this song!!!!
It's my #lovesong for #Taylorswift!!!
The Clash were at their peak with Combat Rock...straight to hell was the best song they ever wrote
@@jaimelannister1797 Maybe musically but you can't beat the first album for sheer visceral excitement.
The greatest rock n roll band of all time. I'm a punk but it is all rock n roll
The first album, my all time favourite of all time. As an 18 year old it was so influential. As a 63 year old its still my favourite .
Mine too at 56.
Me too. About to be 56 in couple weeks. 🤘🏻
Sure, bro !
Hear ya brought my first girlfriend to the Clash in Dublin 1978 !
i m 57 and agree with you :)
I love the energy of the early Clash!!
The raw energy of this song is amazing
I was locked up for most of my teenage years but when I got out in like 1998 my mom bought me a cd player and a few cds. The Clash London Calling was one of them. I had read a LOT about punk and the Clash but never heard them besides Rock the Casbah. I wanted to listen to their "good stuff" and waited like 6 years to finally hear their early music. The album blew my mind.
PUNK and ROCK N' ROLL my man changes lives. Heres a great cover of Johnny Cash for you. ua-cam.com/video/gNE0fEEQ0Wc/v-deo.html
One of my favorite songs by The Clash
Ditto.
My favorite
I love this album. I saw the Clash in 82 at the Hollywood Paladium. That same weekend I saw the Angelic Upstarts at the Whisky. Good times
Bloody hell mate. That's some class pedigree.
My uncle got me into The Clash. He left a bunch of cassettes in my grandmother's attic and CD's too. He said take what you want and most of it was music like this, and a ton of Reggae. I kept it ALL !!!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m 35. I grew up with Bay Area punk rock, ska, Gilman street- my favorite band is Rancid. They are HEAVILY influenced by The Clash and roots reggae. I never really understood the connection with punk and reggae but I knew songs were covered, this n that. Then, one day I had a reggae song playing on .25x faster, and it was suddenly a ska song and it clicked. I love reggae almost mire than punk now.
@@86eastbay listen to punky reggae party by bob marley , i got in to reggae as a punk listening to clash and ruts then marley, steel pulse, misty in roots ect back in 70s in the uk
@@fray008 definitely heard it. Listen to all those guys
Already 😉
Best opening to a debut album ever...
Back in the '77 I heard them for the first time and they really got me hooked, was just 10 years old and didn't have so I didn't have enough money to buy the album until '78 and then I bought this record, I actually bought the two versions of it - the UK version and the US (or was it a Japanese version, don't even know and I didn't really care, I had them both, they were almost the same but a song or two differed - don't t
remember what songs it was and I didn't care as I had them both. What a great time in my life and of course I got me they're future albums as well and between '77-'78 I went to the library and listened to them almost every day. And of course with time more bands become what I loved, didn't stop love Clash, I just got more favorites like Sex Pistols and Stiff Little Fingers, oh how I miss those years
Best song The Clash ever did! It's like "Billy's Third"....a first album gem.
Sometimes I think this is the greatest song ever set to vinyl.
Sometimes ?
First album, 'The Clash' released 45 yrs ago today.... I was 17! The best memories of an incredible time. Thank god I was there to see it all... what an incredible youth we had!
I was born in 1978 and I discovered The Clash when I was 15 years old, still to this day, aged 45 zi still appreciate their music 🎶 ❤
Great music doesn't have an expiration date

If you haven't listened to the Clash and you were born between 1955 and 1980 you were never young.
if you like this you might like my brothers music. His name is Stu Morris, 'murder the ghost' is a good song by him
Rip Joe. We miss you still. Dec 22nd is always Joe Strummer day.
Another legend who left us way too soon
Amen
Id rather celebrate his birthday

intelligent punk rock evolved by the magnificent band The CLASH
The Clash bring it every time!!!👍👍👍
Still the best opening track too an album ever
Mark, I so agree!!!
So lucky to be a teenager when the Clash were turning out their amazing records. I still love them. Its just so exciting and the lyrics are witty.
This might be the best punk song ever
I want to travel back in time just to see the Clash live!😭
Don't we all?
@@dominiclloyd6651 got to see them in MKE but was after topper and mick left.
I got to see them in 1979 at the Palladium in New York, at the concert where the cover photo from the London Calling album was shot. They played some of the songs from London Calling, which came out a few months later.
@@RRaquello I'm so jealous lol. That's an awesome memory to have. What do you remember?🤗
@@sophieb.8115 It was a long time ago, but what I remember was they played songs from their first two albums, then a few from London Calling, which were completely new and we'd never heard before. The Palladium was like a big movie theater, so it wasn't like a small club, but it wasn't like a big arena, like Madison Square Garden. The opening act was Sam & Dave, a popular R&B team from the 60's (their big hit was the song "Soul Man", so they weren't small time). It was a good show, but it sounded like Joe Strummer was losing his voice by the end of it. He needed to pace himself more, LOL.
Band Clash is advanced of Punk like some new music in the world. First band who make the Punk, and give us one stairs over. They are example for all another Punk's bands. Thank you Clash for this music.
*"fill 'er up, Jacko!!!"* 🎶
I knew and photographed the Clash, LA, Oct 1979 and March 1980. BEST shows I ever saw or photographed were in England, June 1980, 16 Tons Tour. THE CLASH WERE AMAZING 1979-80. I wish they toured LA earlier. MAGIC. Their music is way underrated. THEY were the best. Still are. How this group of 4 lads created stunning, lasting, timeless, angry, brilliant, wildly musical songs is a miracle. WOWSA. The Clash Rule! (Most of my Clash are not posted. They are stunning! I wish I had time and money to scan and post more.)
i came here because of High Fidelity. There was a conversation between Rob Gordon and his friends. In the middle of the meeting, Rob said something like this: "My top five is Janie Jones, by The Clash". I said "waoo". Then, I was looking for that song. That's the story =)
Clash, the best british band
Haven't heard this in twenty years or more, great song!
No doubt it's a very cool single! Literally felt in love with this single since I heard it from the first.

Great song, I love it. It's interesting that the song start with the chorus, (The vocal part that is repeated), unusual song structure.
Strummer's gone, "The Clash" live, always🎸🎸👍👍

First song I've heard from the clash holy shit this is sickk
I remember that feeling all too well all those years Ago. Welcome to The Clash
When I first heard this it was on tape as I didnt have a record player. The cassette player had a particular 'oily-electric' smell. I can get the smell forty years later listening to this and 'Modern World' by The Jam. Cool.
Excelente tática. Só faço dessa maneira. Obrigado pela dica.
