    MODERN BUILDS
    Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

    I saw that mistake from the very beginning. I too am glad you didn't glue it all together! Great job man! I love how you show your mistakes and how you go about fixing them.
    Workout tip (I was a personal trainer in my past life):
    I highly recommend against wearing any type of raised/squishy heeled shoe while doing any leg workout. If you can, go shoeless. You'll be able to be much more planted and ultimately push more weight, among other things.

    I’ve been making wooden gym equipment for myself for 20 years using 2 x 4s and plywood gussets also. I only ever bolt everything together though so I can modify things more easily. Typically, you would make the holes for the bolts pretty loose so you can level the equipment on uneven floors more easily.

    Just needs a stop on the end of the spot supports to stop the bar bells rolling off the front.
    Would be good now to cut the concrete weights into actual plates so the weight can be varied.
    Also with the frame painted black it would look great in any home gym

    • @doubledarefan

    To help with the screwing on/off of the spotting bits without tools, just sink a nut in the board that keeps the bolt fastened to it at all times - so then it just needs to go through the stand hole and a final winged nut you can put by hand.

    Would it be an idea to cut the concrete into slices to allow for adjustable amounts of weight? This might require a bit of wire mesh throughout but it could help to have those concrete weights cut in half or thirds to allow them to be used for more exercises. What do you think?

      In the bench video he used a Hart drill. In this video he used a couple Craftsman drills. He painted them to make it harder to tell what they are because they aren't paying him anymore, or his new sponsors don't want him showing competitors' brands. It's kinda like on television shows when you see stickers/tape strategically placed over brand logos.

    • @rolfbjorn9937
      @rolfbjorn9937 2 роки тому

      I'm counting very roughly 20 2X4, 24 Bolts and nuts+washer, half a sheet of plywood, insignificant amount of wood glue (should be substituted for some PL Premium 8x polyurethane adhesive since it's rated for structural applications with impact/live load and creep resistance), and some miscellaneous other things, so basically around 270$, and that's july 2022 Canadian dollars. Look online to find a cheap squat rack with bench safety accessories to compare. I find prices below 200$, but I'd rather trust laminated 2x4 for strength, rather than thin gauge steel tubes.
