This inspired song JESUS YU HOLEM HAN BLONG MI was actually written in 1990 by Benjamin Tekulu, one of my students at King George VI School in Honiara and was recorded at the SIBC studios in the same year by the KG6 King's Kids, produced by myself. Sony Pictures paid Benjamin a modest fee for using the song in the 1998 movie "The Thin Red Line", although obviously the song was not yet in existence in 1943 when the movie was set. Since that time the song has become popular worldwide especially with expatriate Solomon Islanders but the songwriter is largely slated as "unknown" - just thought I would correct that.
The original lyrics in Solomon Islands Pidgin-English (Anglicised spelling for international audience) are:
"Jesus you hol(d)em hand blong me, take-em heart blong me, heart blong me cry out for you
Me no findem any good something long thisfala world, heart blong me cry out for you
Jesus me come long you now (oooh) you take-em me thistime (oooh) (REPEAT)
Papa mi talk thankyou long you, you send-em son blong you, for die, for sin blong me
Whichway (Waswe) you re-ready for him, by-by him he come makey-two time more."
Thank you for the origins of this beautiful hymn. I hope Benjamin gets more recognition for his work, but I am sure like many Melanesians he is a humble man whose interest is praising the Lord.
Why is it so hard to source this album? Why isn't it on Spotify, etc? Were there legal issues surrounding it?
there's a real issue online where by far people give credit for this music to hans zimmer. zimmer did the score, not these choir pieces.
Thank you for your comm. Not much people see it. They think that Hans Zimner composed this. I looked at the origins of these songs and found it. People are not looking at anything and mostly are dumb. Ty you for this testimony and for the translation. I could recognize some English words sometimes. Benjamin should be known for what he composed. It's known in France because an ad for an insurance company in TV used this song and the music composed by Hans Zimner, it is the GMF insurance. I wanted to know where this choirs come from and found the whole story. I want to watch that war movie the thin red line now. The choir song is very beautiful and made me having the tears. Really. A masterpiece. Thank you for your testimony. But the song I talk about is not this one you describe. But you can type GMF insurance music and you will find it. This is so beautiful to hear as well. I watched Thin Red Line for the first time when I was 9 years old, and these songs impacted me in such a deep way. I am now 30 and still can’t listen to them without shedding tears. So beautiful.

Procession Chant 1 @ 5:25... One of the most beautiful mass vocalizations ever performed.
I can't understand a single word, but I completely understand the spirit, live in life love and hope.
It took me 20 years and watching this movie three times to finally get it. It is a masterpiece. If Blade Runner is the best film of all time. This is number two only because Blade Runner exists. The sound track elevates my conscience every time I hear the Melanesian Choir singing. I cried so much the third time I watched and finally understood this movie.
What did you understand exactly? I recently watched it and I wanna know the conclusions you have drawn. Btw, it's a masterpiece, yes.

@@andreasandreas8080 It's a film about war against Nature and about the possibility for man to live in better harmony with Nature. Man doesn't have to be a relentless force of destruction, he is part of Nature and can be so in a beautiful way.
This movie in my opinion is way better thn blade runner
I feel like several malick movies rise to the level of “masterpiece.” This is definitely one of them. Also, Blade Runner 2049 is the rare sequel, if you can even call it that, that was as good as the original.

"God yu tekem life blong mi" is actually Bislama ( Vanuatu pidgin). It was translated by the first Anglican Bishop of New Hebrides(Vanuatu) at Lolowai Ambae 1970s.
Specifically went to the Solomon Islands in '99 to immerse myself in the war history. Dived the wrecks and visited the major land battle sites throughout the islands. It was one of the most amazing trips ive done overseas. This movie came out around the same time and the beautiful singing on the end credits bought me here. PS every American who loves travel should visit this wonderful part of the world. Its an important part of your military history. Peace 😊

Did Hans zimmer really write these songs or did he just record them?
