First, he understands dynamics. Second, he does not use too much vibrato. Third, he does not run all of the notes together, he allows the phrases to breathe. Fourth, he does not grind down on the bow, he keeps a subtle touch. Fifth, he keeps the pieces as the dances they are meant to be, not turning them maudlin. Sometimes I wish he made quiet phrases even quieter to set off the louder ones. And well-recorded. Such poetry.

When I was little, spry and in elementary school I remember sitting in the maestros trailer, wanting to learn the violin. "All the cool kids play the violin" I would complain. She came around, I gripped my seat before she took my hands and inspected them like I was being told my fortune. She grinned. "You will play the cello." I can't quite remember if I got huffy but I'm sure I did. The boy beside me looked confused as my expression blanked. He was my senior and knew how to play the cello well, he reassured me with a smile "its the best one." I can't tell you how much I wish I had a cello in my hands right now. Such a wonderful sound, I don't think there is anything that can ever top the sound of a cello and the feeling you feel as you run your bow just above the bridge. Going down was the best sound in the world, the moment you tilt the bow ever so slightly, creating that deep note. I haven't played in years but I'd like to hope someday I can come back to this and say I finally have my own. One of the most beautiful string instruments in the world

I'm 73. Six months ago I've started playing cello. The Toronto Public Library (Ontario, Canada) borrows musical instruments to its members for free, but not longer than for 2 months. After two months I knew that I'll continue to play, and bought myself a relatively cheap cello. I've promised to myself that I'll buy myself a better instrument for my 75-th birthday ... I know that I'll never be able to play Bach Suites for Cello Solo in their real tempo, but playing them at less than half the speed still gives me immense pleasure ... This is so rewarding after watching bad news on TV due to the virus. Halidonmusic you bring an oasis amongst all the current despair in the world. Thank you. Wishing you well.
Thank you for your kind words, Zach. We feel a bit overwhelmed too, sometimes. Knowing we can count on such a large online community is a tremendous help 🙏 you're welcome here anytime!
Because of complexity and multilayerity of Bach, I prefer Cello, Flut and Lute. Bach had a large and extensive knowledge about music in his era and this makes him complex! Thanks a lot dear Bach...
An absolutely mesmerising reading of Bach's masterpiece. So smooth and easy, he knows intimately every note and nuance. Massimo' now climbs to the top three (maybe even #1!) of my several copies of the suites. Absolutely STUNNING performance.
I am fascinated by your music. It heals me, calms me down and entertains me. I feel endless enjoyment bathing in it . My room is now a piece of paradise. The choice is phenomenal and the style angelic. Thanks!!!

Grazie Maestro Martinelli.
He plays this very expressively. At times, it feels aggressive like a death metal guitar, then again very tender, but with some almost mockingly rough notes thrown in. I especially like when it gets this aimless, wandering feeling, suits my mood very well right now.
I'm a guitar player and these suites are amazing on guitar but can never be fully realized on an unbowed instrument. You can't beat the range of the cello, it so closely mimics the range of human voice that we can just identify with it
@@michaelfriedmann2327 That's is completely wrong. The cello is famed for being in vocal register. That's why so many vocal songs can be transcribed to cello without changing keys. 4 octaves is the full range. Geffory Tate from Queensrych has a 3 octave range. Celine Dion had a similar range but just a bit higher. There are singers in this world that have up to 7 as an octave range. And there are freaks that have 10 as a range. Check you facts buddy, I'm not sure where you got your music education from but I'd check my notes if I were you.
The range not necessary of one average human’s voice, but cumulatively the range of human voices (think of a choir rather than a soloist…soprano to bass).
It was about 20 years ago that I attended a nearby coffee house with an adjacent room set aside for anything from a poetry gathering, exploring the Tarot, or a tiny music ensemble. There I witnessed and learned that the Cello had much more potential than as a "back-up" for other instruments like the violin or piano. I was immediately enraptured by depth and range of sounds! So here we are now! ....FINALLY the Cello has achieved the honor that the violin and piano has had for centuries!
Bach, the divine... the master! Massimiliano, the wonderful virtuoso. It is a great pleasure to be able to hear this interpretation. Greetings from Brazil.
HALIDON MUSIC, hadn't been able to attend my usual "date" with you due to illness, and now I have such a delight double surprise: the beautiful and impressive sound of the cello, and.Bach's complete suits masterfully played by the accomplished cellist Massimiliano Martinelli. Thank you.
Bach's music says to me that every note has each role to be done for all by helping each other to be more beautiful and bright. My soul feel happy, bright, and healthy while listening to Bach's music. Massimiliano Martinelli's Bach playing is so soft, graceful, and elegant to put a smile on my face. Thanks.
God's kingdom is so beautiful Bach was a Lutheran Christian❤❤❤ Ephesian 5:19 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
Wonderful, Massimiliano! This my favorite collection of Bach cello suites, which are my go to focus music. I study and work with this on and it is not only pleasant and lovely, but seems to help me center and stay on task. The way it takes you down with the low notes and reflect on things from one perspective then take you back up and view things from a higher note and perspective - it works for me. Love it.
I will listen to your exquisite translation of Bach the next time I get to look at the morning sun thru the filter of the atmosphere that God so lovingly protects his creation with.

The perfect music for taking a stressful test. The perfect music for anything. I hope one day to be able to play one movement. Thank you, Mr. Martinelli, for your beautiful gift!
Right now. I have to listen from my phone. I'm thankful I can be able to listen at all. Glass half full. Now when I listen to Bach's cello suites on my home stereo ... Oh my god. Heavenly. Same w/ vivaldi.
Thank you for listening, Martha. Massimiliano is currently recording Reger's Cello Suites at his home in Switzerland. We look forward to sharing them with you all 🙏 watch this space!
The best way to keep focussed and concentrated. Thanks for this wonderful interpretation and this master piece of Johann Sebastian Bach. I love this music!
I don't know if you've ever watched any episodes of the series "M*A*S*H" on the telly, but there is 1 in which a nurse says, "there's a mathematical precision" about Bach's music. The episode is called "Love Story", if you ever want to check it out.
@@HALIDONMUSIC of course, I perfectly understand! I was just pleasantly surprised that it seemed there weren't any ads. A curiosity: can you choose the exact moment in the video where to put ads? It would be nice to have ads at the end of a piece, not in the middle, during the music itself. Anyways, good job!
Ads should only be playing in between pieces (or movements). If you get one in the middle of music, please do share the timestamp with us & we'll fix that straight away! Thanks again. 😊
EXCELLENT. smooth and not too "modern" sounding, but what i like best about Massimiliano's suite #6 is the moderately-paced prelude, in which he doesn't flip out and go crazy in the last third of the piece to "show off" his skills at being able to play the notes. my teacher always told us that it was more important to play something a little more slowly but clearly and audibly, rather than show off and miss notes and skip beats in an effort to look cool. after anner bylsma's first 1979 recording, i would rank Massimiliano's a close 2nd. EXCELLENT.

Im 50 ish and cannot read music, cannot play any instrument but for some odd reason I would love to learn to play the Cello. I did briefly enquire a few months ago but they never got back to me. I really don;t even have the money to buy a Cello and don;t know anyone who plays but I am so drawn to it..like it will be the last thing I do on the earth before I die..whatever it takes..if anyone has any experience of learning it I would love to hear.
I'm a Chicago cellist splitting my time between performing and teaching. I think you've got to get your hands on a cello! There's probably a store that will gladly rent a cello to you, usually found fairly easily. It can be quite wonderful to play, especially if it's already taken root in your mind.
I played the cello in high school over 40 years ago. I recently retired and FINALLY bought myself a cello. I enjoy playing almost every day. It is great for my concentration and of course my soul. Don’t give up on your dream of playing the cello some day!!❤️

Especially these Beautiful suites.

Bach's cello suites are the music of my soul.
I can only aspire to one day be able to even /adequately/ play these perfect suites.
Through the short period of time of hardships in my life,
I realized that Heaven came to Earth through Bach music!!
Absolutely STUNNING performance.
massimo plays the cello so insanely well!
I am fascinated by your music. It heals me, calms me down and entertains me. I feel endless enjoyment bathing in it . My room is now a piece of paradise. The choice is phenomenal and the style angelic. Thanks!!!
Moved me to tears. Refined, elegant, emotive, provoking.
I swear whoever plays the cello this well is an angel sent from the heavens above
Bach definitely fits winter season. Especially cello~~~~~~ sooo cold!!
True!!!
For me one of the best player playing Cello suite .freely but with good interpretation.
Thank you for your kind words, we're delighted to hear you enjoy Massimiliano Martinelli's work! “The final aim and reason of all music is nothing other than the glorification of God and the refreshment of the soul.” J. S. Bach

“It is God who makes the music. I just write the notes” - J.S. Bach
I agree! Praise God!
Yes. Bach was and is correct. With age I have found this to be true.
I agree.💯💕🎵🎶🎵
Bach was a Lutheran and wrote many of the works still used in Lutheran church services today.
Thank you
Beautiful! I’m listening to this during a chemo infusion and it is exactly what I need to keep me calm and relaxed. Thank you for sharing your skill!
Courage 🎉
Grazie Maestro Martinelli.
thank you HALIDON MUSIC for creating such an amazing video! hearing this makes me feel comfortable!
He plays this very expressively. At times, it feels aggressive like a death metal guitar, then again very tender, but with some almost mockingly rough notes thrown in. I especially like when it gets this aimless, wandering feeling, suits my mood very well right now.
Yes, it’s a very beautiful and convincing baroque interpretation. I really like when baroque music is played with such intensity.
I'm a guitar player and these suites are amazing on guitar but can never be fully realized on an unbowed instrument.
You can't beat the range of the cello, it so closely mimics the range of human voice that we can just identify with it
You should hear my rendition on the triangle
No vocalist has the range of a ‘cello.
Does anyone play them on the violin?
It was about 20 years ago that I attended a nearby coffee house with an adjacent room set aside for anything from a poetry gathering, exploring the Tarot, or a tiny music ensemble. There I witnessed and learned that the Cello had much more potential than as a "back-up" for other instruments like the violin or piano. I was immediately enraptured by depth and range of sounds!
So here we are now! ....FINALLY the Cello has achieved the honor that the violin and piano has had for centuries!

Such a rich, lovely, yet concise sound. I love this gentleman's playing filled with life and passion. Lovingly played and recorded.
Thank you so much, Salariatus! You've perfectly captured Massimiliano's spirit. 😊
Perfectly stated. This entire presentation is a gift.
HALIDON MUSIC, hadn't been able to attend my usual "date" with you due to illness, and now I have such a delight double surprise: the beautiful and impressive sound of the cello, and.Bach's complete suits masterfully played by the accomplished cellist Massimiliano Martinelli. Thank you.
Hi Delia, hope you're feeling better now. Thanks so much for appreciating it and get well soon :)
I love Bach's "suits" too

Bach's music says to me that every note has each role to be done for all by helping each other to be more beautiful and bright. My soul feel happy, bright, and healthy while listening to Bach's music. Massimiliano Martinelli's Bach playing is so soft, graceful, and elegant to put a smile on my face. Thanks.
Agreed. Not a wasted note.

Love it.
I will listen to your exquisite translation of Bach the next time I get to look at the morning sun thru the filter of the atmosphere that God so lovingly protects his creation with.
beautiful, heartfelt and well phrased performance on an excellent instrument, well recorded. I could not ask for more - thank you Mr. Marinelli!!
Happy you enjoy this compilation of Bach's cello suites, thank you! When Massimiliano Martinelli is involved we know we can expect only the best!

Thank you for listening, Martha. Massimiliano is currently recording Reger's Cello Suites at his home in Switzerland. We look forward to sharing them with you all 🙏 watch this space!
Out of all the music in the world I decided to listen to to a guy play the cello... And I liked it
Not really. You decided because of the composer, not because of the player!
Fully agree with Lilia the music of Bach is Sublime and very God Like. Bravo and more
Sounds and rhythms of the human struggle among failure and victories and lots of time doing what comes our way
The best way to keep focussed and concentrated. Thanks for this wonderful interpretation and this master piece of Johann Sebastian Bach. I love this music!

I'm a polymath that adores the complexity and mathematical precision of YSB,,he is a genius
I don't know if you've ever watched any episodes of the series "M*A*S*H" on the telly, but there is 1 in which a nurse says, "there's a mathematical precision" about Bach's music. The episode is called "Love Story", if you ever want to check it out.
150 minutes of pleasure... apparently with no ads (so far)! thank you!!
ahem, OK, there are ads... maybe not many. anyways, it is still pleasure. it is really really fast, i am not used to it but I like.
Thank you for being so understanding, JWentu! We try not to put too many ads on our videos, but they're the only way we can keep the channel going.
tenure is good
EXCELLENT. smooth and not too "modern" sounding, but what i like best about Massimiliano's suite #6 is the moderately-paced prelude, in which he doesn't flip out and go crazy in the last third of the piece to "show off" his skills at being able to play the notes. my teacher always told us that it was more important to play something a little more slowly but clearly and audibly, rather than show off and miss notes and skip beats in an effort to look cool. after anner bylsma's first 1979 recording, i would rank Massimiliano's a close 2nd. EXCELLENT.
I like your teacher's advice, clarity and precision is always preferred to blurry speed, and showing off.
This brings peace to me.

@@bgaona Thanks for your feedback and very encouraging! taken root is a very good way to put it...!
I played the cello in high school over 40 years ago. I recently retired and FINALLY bought myself a cello. I enjoy playing almost every day. It is great for my concentration and of course my soul. Don’t give up on your dream of playing the cello some day!!❤️
