No that’s Ben Keith playing pedal steel on most of Harvest. However - Jerry Garcia does play pedal steel on CSNY’s Teach Your Children. That is 100% true, it’s even in the liner notes in Déjà Vu along with a picture.
@@ziapsp4167 No problem. Ben was more than just a studio sideman - he was Neil's man for decades. Also a legend in his own right, played on I Fall to Pieces by Patsy Cline too.
@@ziapsp4167 Jerry was a natural, but he once said he'd need to live another lifetime to master the pedal steel. The legend is that he laid down the part on Teach Your Children in one take and he didn't even know Nash was recording him. Sounds pretty incredible to me.
My college roommate had a 5 string banjo but didn't know how to play it. Without his knowledge, I restrung the banjo like a guitar. Then when he came back I picked it up and started playing. He was amazed. Those things are loud!
I didn't know this, I gotta go listen to it!...👏👍
Old Man and Heart of Gold are my favourite Neil Young songs of all time.
Hard to pick my favorites, however those are two great songs!
What a great story. I wasn’t aware of the relationship between these 2 musical idols of mine. Very cool
I met Neil in Chicago. He gave me the "set list" from the stage. I love that song "Harvest".
Harvest Moon - usually setlists are written in shorthand
Were you tickled? Lol when did Howard become a dork
Ben Keith (not Dugmore) played pedal steel on "Old Man" (and on "Heart Of Gold").
Imagine 1988 Howard Stern being told that you’ll one day be interviewing James Taylor.
"I will do that over Sam Kinison's dead body!"
James sounds like a chill dude... maybe he’d like to play banjo on my song next.
Please Howard can you just let people finish talking? You really don't have to talk over these great guests you have.
So effing annoying
Great questions though. I had no idea he played on those tunes.
That's Howard Stern for you, always has to control the room and conversation

What happened to the sound?
Yeah, the last bit got cut off. Unless it was intentional? I would like to hear past the ending. Please re-upload if you have it.
So Ben Keith isn’t on those songs?
JT is wrong…seniors moment
I think the only people Howard shows respect to is him and CSNY lol
Interesting, Neil said for years Ben Keith played the pedal steel guitar on old man
He did but James Taylor played the banjo.
@@Mr115thDream I know but at 3:00 James says it was Dan Dugmore on steel on that album

I guess it’s a myth than that Jerry Garcia played the pedal steel part. I heard for years that he did.

Stern's got such a gossipy demeanor and annoyingly phony sense of "wonder."
