As pointed out by @Following1000, @WiseHorror, and @KJPang, Raccoon Leaves can actually be gotten from the Demon's Den. Thanks everyone for pointing that out! (just got insanely unlucky in testing)
The fish rate for Legendary Scales at Dragon Lake is abysmally low. They have a very high chance, relatively, at being fished from the pond at Maya Road however! Without save scumming you can expect to get at least 2-3 a day if you only go for the smallest shadow sizes.
Rune Factory 4 has such an odd amount of mechanical depth to all of it's systems such that I'm astounded anyone figures out how it all works (and how little of it is taught in game play). Your videos rigorously explaining arcane concepts have been so informative while digestible, and I'm thankful for your thorough approach to teaching concepts. If this style of video lecture is your idea of recreation, doubtless you are a fine teacher on the professional side. I look forward to your future content, and thank you!
I was at such a difficulty spike at Maya road in the second arc- I would’ve had to grind for weeks without your help. I was at a point where I wasn’t enjoying it any more and fully understanding forging, upgrading and crafting has brought a whole new aspect to the game that I LOVE! If you haven’t played Atelier Ryza or any of the Atelier games then you REALLY should.
Obsidian mansion, one to the right, two down is a love gate, one further down another one. Perfect place for farming love cristals. Still a rare drop, but I recommend it. Put the first one you find in the shipping bin and there's a high chance Raven will sell them. Not even expensive.
It's really gnarly seeing someone else who knows this stuff. Thanks for all the work compiling this info. Legendary Scales can actually be fished up a lot more commonly in Maya Road. It's the screen with the pond where Greens who drop green cores can be found. You can also get Love Crystals by the Obsidian Mansion rarely by breaking the Affection Gates over and over again. Wind Crystals can also be mined from any node you can get Emeralds from. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for correcting some of this stuff! With the Maya Road fishing to my understanding there was a few possible fishing spots, and they didn't all have the increased Legendary Scale rate though? As for Love Crystals, the gates that spawn outside of Obsidian Mansion are, to my understanding, Love Gates and not Affection Gates. Affection Gates themselves can't be found outside of Rune Prana, and the Love Gate Love Crystal drop rate are prohibitively low to my understanding. It perhaps is something I should have mentioned though, yes - thanks a bunch.
Thank you for all your work in these videos, I’ve been learning a lot. I played the game back in the 3DS and I started playing in PC again and never knew how deep all the systems really are
Water can with Light ore and Finish rod is an absolute must if you used the free farmer shoes method field as it makes easier to water everything. Otherwise you'll need 3 (if your lucky) full charges to water a whole field
The best part of Light Ore Fishing Rod Water can is that the last hidden charge in the watering can spends no rune points, so its viable to walk and mash like you do with a lvl 1 watering can.
not sure if you said it was Random but from my experience with the crafting the 3 items it picks are Bottom Middle and Both of the Right most boxes... I used this to successfully get Rune Crystal as the item it chose from the recipe (along with 2 Grimoire Scales for added Defense in a level 1 Hell Playthrough). May want to double check that though.
also the reason you would go for Tier 2 Rarity bonus instead of Best Rarity is if the Forges would give MORE than the bonus would... I usually use this when making Staves... which I give me a choice between armor piercing or More damage (due to me using 10 fold steel and Double steel to get the damage even higher)... also I have noticed for some reason my scrap metal + has not been working to drop my damage to 1 on Magic weapons.
28:35, You can get love crystals from gates fairly early on actually, I'm pretty sure. From Obsidian Mansion, if you go 1 screen right, and 1-2 south, there's love gates that will spawn, and you can rarely get love crystals to drop from there
You can get love gate before post game. There's is near one green fairies. I forget the place name I do know directly south of that spot is a water area with ducks.
if i may make a correction: there actually is a gate that drops love crystals pretty early on (at least in the DS version) its south of obsidian mansion in a small spot where fairys gather. Ive gotten love crystals there before
you can upgrade your pole with a magnifying glas lmaooo this game is too deep and I love it RF3 was my first game and its insane how many upgrades they put in 4
I haven't even finished watching the video, but this was already one of the most informative things I've ever seen on this game. Does this apply to the 3DS version as well?
It's mainly just because the other farming tools are actually useful on your farm, and so that giant window of stats could be really annoying if you're just trying to water your crops or something. If you put it on the pole instead, which you'll likely always have on you, you can easily just turn it "on" or "off" by swapping into and out of the pole.
@@dreamingsuntide1 thanks, the window has gotten in the way sometimes, but to me, i find it easier to have it on my hoe so its easy to go around healing plots. Since theres no other negatives, I'll continue doing this.
hmm coming from rf3 (just got a switch and rf4 special a week ago) i don't get why people seem to like the bone dragon final charge that much it get canceled the moment anything hit you, while Dragon fin 1st and 2nd charge are way better homing options (assuming it still works the same as in rf3), just sit in the corner facing the wall (the fins come out from your back and it will deal dmg immediately) then churn those out. Main issue is the 2nd charge is kinda weak compared to the 1st charge and in rf3 there is no other way to get a better effect there, maybe in rf4 there will be a better 2nd charge Also very nice video, I've been looking for a way to learn about the crafting system since it quite overwhelming reading stuff from the FAQ forum posts. One question is that how the 1st 3 "inherited" slot work ? I still don't get how that system (sorry in advance if you already cover this in another video.
I've never actually tried the Dragon Fin tbh, but the Dragon Bone's mainly good just because it does so much damage -and- seems to ignore Defence, so it's great for going through Sharance before you're truly ready. And to answer your question, the inherited slots are described in the first video of the series (the fundamentals), but the long story short is you use extra materials in crafting something (anything) to imbue its stats, then you use that piece to craft something else (with desired stats), then you use -that- piece to craft something else (with desired appearance).
47:45 Actually dude while Rainbow Waterpot gives you the speed without sacrificing charge 3, Gamefaqs boards confirmed that the "Right Blue Horn" gives you speed AND dog head twins' "Ice of Condemnation" attack at charge 1. It's probably the BEST way to finish the "Venti Rod" and the "Shining Screw Combo" because of those reasons. In the case of the Shining Screw, It presumably would make the big wave charge as fast as it can WITHOUT wasting charge 1. It also would set the spell combo in just 2 items after prior upgrading, right?...Actually, what other items would YOU put on a Rod after finishing with the Shining screw and the Right Blue Horn, DreamSuntide??? Yes I know the big wave is physical, but I still want it I don't care if it's slow! Magic Charm is still one of the ingredients in my "Arc Reactor" anyways! ^_^
Hey, could I ask which GameFAQs post you're talking about (or at least about when it was posted?). If it's the post I think you're thinking of, you might be misinterpretting it. While it's true Right Rock Shard only replaces the Charge 1 attack, it's still only half the speed of the Rainbow Waterpot. In any case, if you're already using Magic Charm, I might have fun with a Golem Tablet for a punch attack, which does a solid amount of damage. The upgrade path would probably be Shining Screw -> Golem Tablet -> Rainbow Waterpot/Glistening Blade/Right Rock Shard, as you wish.
If you just want a fishing pole to fish, there's not much you can reaaaally do with it other than just make better poles whenever you get more stuff... though I do always love upgrading with the magnifying glass.
Is the Raccoon Tail a postgame item? Since you can get it as a drop from the raccoon boss you get the Dungeon seeds from and I wouldn't consider that part of postgame/Arc 3. Haven't ever finished postgame/Arc 3 so I don't know if an enemy further in'll drop 'em so that's kinda why I'm curious. Anyway, thanks for another great crafting vid, I didn't know staves had these capabilities and always ignored them. But now I really want to try different upgraded builds of them!
I swear you could get it from Demon's Den... and then when I prepped this video, I beat him up like 5 times and he never dropped a single item. At least from my testing it -seems- like he just gives you dungeon seeds without ever actually giving you drops. Of course, I could just be insanely lucky... I think people (including myself) just usually picked it up from beating up Magnuto in Sharance (or Rune Prana) and misattributed it to fighting him in Demon's Den.
You can get the legendary scale more effectively from aquaticus' drop at sharance maze 3 than fishing, well atleast for me since i never got one from fishing lol, got a lot of it from fishing in RF3 tho 😐
You uh... You do know you can also mine those crystals right? Like, I get a lot of them just mining gems and ore. Edit: The only exceptions are love crystals and dark crystals, I haven't been able to mine any of those, but the elemental crystals you can definitely get from mining.

I second this. I'm not a staff/magic user, but i'd still watch and if theres something cool, i might do a magic run

If I'm not very much mistaken you can get resistances on gloves and dual blades due to their bonus function as armour

There is another defense ignoring staff charge, lvl 3 Octamammoth shell, it releases an urchin that deals love damage and ignores defenses.
Love crystals are not post-game, you can get them early game from love gates
Keep in mind u can also get elemental crystals from mining ore minerals :)
