I just started playing rune factory 4 like 2 weeks ago and it feels like it got the things that i always missed in games like harvest moon, SOS or stardew valley. It's not just farming and mining and it always feels like you have to do something and you can plan your story adventure like you want! Not just befriending with the ppl of the town like in the other games, but actually having something to to in the late game like grinding and feeling like beeing a bigger part of the story then just someone, who reunites a town or something ( ºÄº )💦 I really wish for a rune factory for switch too! I don't even care from wich company, just give it the same gameplay and an awesome story and i'll love it forever! (/ω＼)💕✨ Until then, i'll play the older rune factory games :'3💕💞✨
While not a mistake per se. You seem to only be able to get plant swords and shields made from their respective items IF you have previously held said item in your inventory or hands. I'm not a hundred percent certain. But i planted sword plants in between the rows of apple trees i was using to level one of my fields. At the time i had access to the first zone of sharance maze and the majority of leon karnak for gathering materials and wanted better gear to go further in while waiting for the third arc to trigger. Out of ten or so soft resets i found very few swords with attack stats nearing 1000. Most were focused much lower. I soft reset again. decided i'd just leave the sword plants for later and naturally the next time i went into sharance maze i found a gugnir (10000 wind atk spear) and an axe/hammer with 4600 attack power (or something like that) Exasperated with how pointless the sword plants had been i decided to just pick them. In that batch i had 3 swords with 4600 attack and one with 10000 wind elemental attack power. I'm still using that 10000 sword now although upgraded with the best stuff i had available at the time (malm claw and 10fold steel) this seems to hint at two things. 1) plant swords from other weapon categories are fairly common (pretty sure maybe 6-10 out of 26 were from other categories which i call bs on for the random number generator putting light ore and those weapons in that many times) and 2) Sword plants are probably only able to take on the properties of weapons you have held. We know rune factory does keep track of this because in the forging license test it tells you that rp required for a recipe you havn't unlocked can be lowered if you have held the item in question before.
i've found a whole bunch of weird little minor dev oversights. Some are in the central plaza of the town! if you walk onto either of the bottom two staircases leading towards the clinic or the flower store, then walk up, it turns out there is a small zone of water on both bottom staircases. You need to have the water walking ability on your shoes to see this, but lower level players can still prove it exists by using their fishing rods pointed at the right area. (no fish but if for some reason you drop an item in those water puddles you can fish it back up at least) There only other case of this i know right now is on the north western stairs leading down to my man bado's forge. The devs got lazy and you can water walk onto the patch of water at the base of the stairs if you enter it from the stairs. No practical application. just funny stuff. Only someone as bad at walking as me would have noticed something that stupid
While I would like to believe this, unfortunately I can absolutely confirm this was not the case for me at all and have video proof on my stream uploads. I had never found nor have I made a weapon that was anywhere near 10000ATCK, until after I pulled out the plant sword with the mjolnirs stats. I will concede that you maybe right about the light ore thing but I also noticed you said that you upgraded the plant sword that you pulled, keep in mind that in the video I specifically say that I leveled the plant sword seeds all the way to level 10 so maybe it being a higher level does have something to do with how powerful the weapon is when pulled from the ground.
Damn, I thought the developers wouldn't put in a way to completely break the game like that. Thanks for the confirmation though. Might scale with level. And yes i still have my sword plant seeds at level 1 because I thought i would be clever and avoid the rng with upgrade materials. Thanks for the extra info on that though. I'll try levelling them to level 10 and do a full field of them and see if i get stats from weapons i havn't crafted or found yet

Good god man, how much researching did you put yourself through to give us this?! I swear the more I learn about this game, the less I realize I know about it. How can one game have *so many* features, yet explain so little of them. I must have been really unlucky with my plant swords, because every one I harvested (including level 10) has ended so crappy that I was convinced the plant sword was useless and a waste of time and space to grow. Never imagined it was so... intricate.
^Have you had issues with Golden Fish Trophies? I can't find any reliable ways of getting them; just to add to the things we don't know about the game. I am hoping he'll cover Golden Fiah Trophies in another video.
I don't think there actually is a reliable way of getting them, given the randomness of what fish appear (within the list of available fish for that specific season and place) and how big they are. It all seems to be down to luck :/
Wow, I didn't know plant swords take other random sword stats, I always thought they receive random number from 1 to 9999 xD Good video! Since Rune Factory 4 special edition is releasing on switch in July, I would love to see a compilation video explaining all ingame mechanics (overriding stats, plant swords, etc) for new players.
About the plant-sword, the stats can actually be pulled from ALL weapons in the game, not just shortswords, with no need to roll a Light rune to roll from another type, and that is actually quite common. in one harvest, planting only half field i got 2 Legion(Lance) 2 Gungnir(Lance) 1 Magic Shot(Staff) 1 Sorceror's Wand (Staff) and a Grand Crush(Hammer), none of the weapons had Light ore as an ingredient, and lots of weaker weapons had stats from gloves and dual blades etc.

Hi! I realize this video is older. I’m just starting my very first playthrough of any Rune Factory ever. I’m doing Rune Factory 4 special for switch and I’m assuming this video was researched/filmed using the 3DS version (which I’ve owner for over a decade and never played). So I’m just wondering if all this information is the same for the Switch version? It’s amazingly helpful and in-depth which I LOVE. I just want to know if I should apply this knowledge to when I play? If anyone knows for sure of how it has changed if at all, it’d be much appreciated! Thank you!

The fish trophies are especially fickle and I have tried to work with buddies on Neoseeker and we can't quite pinpoint what specifically you must do to get the Gold variant of the fish trophies. But anyway, glad you're back because you make some goody good Rune Factory content.
I thought it might have to do with size, or the level of the fish, but I have no consistent cause-and-effect correlations from my testings. I tried starting up a New Game and catching beginner level fish and trying to see what happened after each catch. Still, as I just said, couldn't quite pinpoint what it is. John E Boy, please make a video that explains how to get golden fish trophies in your trophy room. You would be a SAINT to cover this topic, because I am currently TRYING to 100% Rune Factory 4, and I have spent about 8 IRL months trying to get a golden Rockfish trophy... I just recently got Silver. The reason this is so weird and why I personally believe it deserves a video is because it is not clear what... for lack of a better term, requisites the game looks for in determining what trophy you get. The only thing that IS known, is that you guarunteed get the bronze version of a fish trophy if you catch your first of any type of fish. People have tried to figure, "Well, do you have to catch a really big one?" and that does not seem the case, since I have seen people who have a golden fish trophy who have a smaller record for the largest than I do, and I am stuck at a Silver (not necessarily the rockfish trophy I was talking about being Silver, another one, but you probably get the idea). I'm not asking for you to find a quick and easy way, I was just hoping for a comprehensive explanation as to how the hell it all works. I mean, after 8 months I am almost ready to throw in the towel!

I have a theory that in the games code a plant sheild is counted as equpible but not a forging item. This could mainly be on the fault of xseed and how they coded the game or, it may just be due to the programerrs not borrowing the scripts for the plant sword and forgetting. So it could be something they could patch.
so.. does their quality means nothing to the sword? I mean, I read the item description and it says it'll grow stronger depends on how you tend it, well damn. you can actually get a pretty strong sword in the beginning of 2nd arc after you get through demon's den
I kid you not. The first shield plant I pulled was SHIT. It had 0 stats. No attack, defense, magic attack, magic defense, so on so forth at a level 1. I just sold that shit because it was worthless to me but now thinking about it now, I probably got a rare pull of is base stats at should of kept it for bragging rites. (I sell a lot of weapons and armor after it becomes worthless to me.)

No matter how many fish I catch, none but ONE of them in gold. I'm trying to fill out the trophy room and all I need are those darn Gold Fish trophies. I tried looking at the Rune Factory Wiki (It usually solves my problems) but to my surprise it gives no information on how to get these things. Could you make your next Rune Factory video about that?
I would suggest just running back and forth to spawn in more fish. I typically focus on the biggest shadows but not all the fish get that big so I catch everything there if a big fish spawns then repeat the refresh process. As you build the skill lvl the fish lvl will increase as well. You want to catch the bigger lvl 10 fish which takes a while. My biggest catch was 89 cm for a love fish on the first mont but there could be bigger ones since I was still low lvl at the time.
Well let's see... I had a farm plot full of them and it took me like 20 or so trips to get that sword. Soo somewhere around the ball park of 800 plants? It can be fickle though, sometimes you get good swords fast (2000 and up, have a live stream on the channel where this happened) and sometimes it takes forever.

ohhhhhh, sorry the way you phrased it made me think that somebody actually delved into the code of the game to figure the plant gear out and that I was wasn't entirely correct about it. My bad dude.
The plans sword is op af. Now to grind an op af plant shield... (Spoiler Warning) Im on Rune Prana right now and the golem boss is just kicking my ass. I have a 6000+ attack plant sword a plant shield with 843+ defense an the rest of my armor is the last stuff bado sells except for a lv 10 ruby ring that has had a object x and 8 oils on it. Any help for armor for this boss would be nice.
If you still need help with that boss, try using a magic charm that Bado sells (The golem is weak to magic), and focus on leveling your crafting, at least until you can get the dragon cloak, but rune vest is the best you can reasonably get pre-sharance.
It is totally possible to do a level 1 rune factory 4 run. Just remove the EXP option in game and don't eat anything that can level you up. You can still gain skill points and everything. I did that and OH BOY WAS IT HELL Now... You will hate me for this but I challenge you to a level 1 rune factory challenge. Beat the whole game (Yes, including the final boss and no, I won't force you to do the maze... I'm not THAT sadistic). Relationship events are completely optional and the best thing I can tell you is that your overwrite and monster taming tricks might come in handy. But oh boy, this won't save you from that one room with plenty of firemages... trust me, it took me over 30 tries to get the trick right.
well you'll be happy to know that I have already taken up that challenge on my lets play channel and plan to continue it in the near future. probably after im done with this rune factory video im working on.

The first shield flower I ever harvested had no stats… so apparently it overided itself.

I got a Plant sword with Fenrir on it and max my drain attack to 100+100%crit chance from an accessories most broken shit I've ever seen in this game

U can have an 20k atk broadsword?
How many plant swords did you have to harvest to get that strong sword?
I know all my LV.2 swords I'm harvesting don't seem to break 1260 ATK.
Well let's see... I had a farm plot full of them and it took me like 20 or so trips to get that sword. Soo somewhere around the ball park of 800 plants? It can be fickle though, sometimes you get good swords fast (2000 and up, have a live stream on the channel where this happened) and sometimes it takes forever.
@@JohnEBoyVideos takes a lot of patience then pretty much, I'll just keep at it and hopefully get a good sword.

It's possible. For me, I downloaded Citra 3DS Emulator from the play store. Then download the game from:

@@JohnEBoyVideos you literally talked about how the plant sword gets a random short sword Stat and then later on found out that it can have Mjolnir and perhaps other's as well. that literally your video.
ohhhhhh, sorry the way you phrased it made me think that somebody actually delved into the code of the game to figure the plant gear out and that I was wasn't entirely correct about it. My bad dude.

Im on Rune Prana right now and the golem boss is just kicking my ass. I have a 6000+ attack plant sword a plant shield with 843+ defense an the rest of my armor is the last stuff bado sells except for a lv 10 ruby ring that has had a object x and 8 oils on it.
Any help for armor for this boss would be nice.
If you still need help with that boss, try using a magic charm that Bado sells (The golem is weak to magic), and focus on leveling your crafting, at least until you can get the dragon cloak, but rune vest is the best you can reasonably get pre-sharance.
It is totally possible to do a level 1 rune factory 4 run. Just remove the EXP option in game and don't eat anything that can level you up. You can still gain skill points and everything. I did that and OH BOY WAS IT HELL
Now...
You will hate me for this but I challenge you to a level 1 rune factory challenge. Beat the whole game (Yes, including the final boss and no, I won't force you to do the maze... I'm not THAT sadistic). Relationship events are completely optional and the best thing I can tell you is that your overwrite and monster taming tricks might come in handy.
But oh boy, this won't save you from that one room with plenty of firemages... trust me, it took me over 30 tries to get the trick right.
well you'll be happy to know that I have already taken up that challenge on my lets play channel and plan to continue it in the near future. probably after im done with this rune factory video im working on.
What do you mean by "don't eat anything that can level you up"? Not using any food with temporary stat buffs on it?
