  • I'm Sophie Charlotte and I have Bipolar Disorder. I'm making videos about my experiences with medications, my story and bipolar-related content in general. I'm rounding off the medications I currently take with my video on Promethazine. I didn't have much to say on this one as it's been the simplest of them all!
I know I mispronounced Phenergan too, sorry!
I'm going to film either my experience with other medications next, or my diagnosis story - which will be quite a lengthy video in comparison!
If you have any video suggestions or questions, just let me know.

Great video. It sure also work to calm you down if you suffer from anxiety. Först days I felt draws y but after some days it was no worse than diazepam/Valium. Remember all that Promethazine was the first drug used to calm people down since 1951, and it's still in use, that tell me that newer drugs doesn't at all have to work better

I've had the issues with the grogginess too, but 've needed it the last while to fall asleep. Unfortunately last night I got caught in the worst nightmare loop, constantly trying to wake up aware I'm in a nightmare, having false wakes, actually waking up but falling asleep again minutes or even seconds later, etc., it was kind of terrifying, and when I did finally managed to stay awake for more than 3 minutes I had to *force* myself to stay awake. Eventually I let myself go back to sleep and I had a much more pleasant dream, but I had really intense grogginess and couldn't move most of my body - not full on sleep paralysis but still sucked. Wonder if I took 2 by accident.

Thanks for sharing, just been given this today after a pretty rough few days!
Nice to see how it has positively helped you! I am hoping for the same, I was previously given diazepam but they wanted to try and see if this is a better fit

If I can give you advice “from future” , make it a priority to sort out the sleep. I have developed epilepsy because my sleep too was terrible. If I could, I would make my younger self care about myself more when I was younger. Wishing you all the best, thanks for the video.

Are you sure epilepsy is from insomnia? Do you have epileptic seizures with convulsions or is it something milder? Do you have history of concussion? Sorry to pry, but it could be useful information for others too.

@@cam553 Good question. The answer is I don’t know for sure if it developed from lack of sleep. It could have be anything else. However I slept most of my life 4-5 hours simply because I thought I didn’t need more sleep and could function normally. I have one other theory what could have caused it (diet pills that were later banned bc they triggered seizures) but I think sleep definitely must have played at least a “supporting role” :) Especially because lack of sleep today triggers my seizures. To answer the other part of your question, I only had 3 seizures with loss of consciousness + jerking - always in sleep. Apart from that I only get auras (deja-vu, jamais-vu type of thing) thankfully. I believe they’re called focal aware seizures - they keep changing the names 🤦‍♀️
No history of concussions, no sports, … just a cushy PC gal 😀😉

i got these prescribed months ago, but just yesterday i could actually get them since they are horribly hard to get hold on because they are sold out everywhere almost all the time. Anyway. Horrible nightmares, horrible "drunken feeling", could not walk to bathroom without holding the walls, could not pee at all for hours... dry mouth... i could just go on. I took 1 pill to cope with my extremely high anxiety at the time and now im feeling even worse. Anxiety to take another one of these pills from hell. Not gonna do it. Not worth it.

Hi many thanks for the video. I just started this medication for sleep, anxiety and panic attacks. It's 25mg, how long should I give it a try at 25mg before upping it to 50mg?

    • @cam553
      @cam553 5 місяців тому

Like anything, you would need to up the dose if you develop tolerance and the dose isn’t effective for your needs. Google the Mayo Clinic link regarding promethazine and dosing or see my comment at top of message replies here.

Try not to keep taking it and have regular breaks.
I started on 50 but was too groggy. 25 better. They help to keep me asleep (not send me to sleep), but for the past two nights 25 did nothing, and neither did 50 - hence writing this comment at 6am when I was still awake at 2 or 3am. 😒
I recommend only using once in a while. Waste of time otherwise.

When used for sleep, i found out that taking promethazine and zma works really great for me atleast.
I usually take both with a cup of chamomile tea, about a hour before going to bed.
ZMA is a mix of zink, magnesium and B6, it improves sleep for most people, and its kinda cheap.

They were very relaxing for me. Anyway i never liked the republic of Ireland!!! Corrupt, Expensive. I have to buy the baby liquid of phenergan. It's horrible!! The taste is awful!! And the price of the little bottle is almost 15 Euro!!! Typical Republic of Ireland!!!😡...

@@craigguinnane173 regarding sleep, as little as 25mg can be effective but as she mentioned in the video, sleep onset can take up to 2 hours so it doesn’t work like zopiclone or similar hypnotics. The anxiety dose of 50mg should easily work for sleep. In my country, you can get it OTC in 10mg or 25mg tablets after a few questions from the pharmacist.
