The first time I took seroquel I fainted in the shower, I was 22 and I phoned the doctor saying I don’t want to take this stuff. She told me I had to so I did what she said. She also put me on Effexor 150 and that eventually gave me seizures. Then Lexapro and that gave me seizures too. I now take a tiny dose of CBD and feel great and I sleep
I couldn’t wake up for like two days at a time on seroquel, I slept for three days straight off my prescribed dose and I literally didn’t know how long I was out when I woke up
I have been on and off of seroquel for decades. I have bipolar 2 disorder, hypothyroidism, complex PTSD, essential tremors, heart palpitations and freaking menopausal symptoms. It’s the only drug that works for me. Several years ago my menopausal state made me an interminable insomniac. I was sleep deprived for 5 nights in a row. Lemme tell ya, it was like POW camp torturing. They blast heavy metal music 24/7 until the prisoner confesses everything. You will do anything by day 5 to get some zzz’s. My mind turned against me and I went on a trip all over the United States. I had a voice in my head compelling me to hit the road. It also told me that I was going to die soon. I did become suicidal. I truly believed the horror unfolding in my mind. And acted accordingly. I went from psych hospital to psych hospital. They even tried electric shock therapy. Didn’t work. Lithium didn’t work. Risperidone nor Olanzapine worked. It takes years to hit upon the right cocktail of meds. At 60 I’m finally properly medicated. And, for the most part I’m med compliant. Thank you so much for posting this. I suggested it in the comment on a previous video and I’m completely elated that you made this video. My wife has just been prescribed seroquel for Bpd and you’ve managed to answer all my questions and concerns.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! Lethal stuff. I was on it for a few months for sleep until I got in such a bad state I could not sleep any longer, the side effects were so bad, such as severe anxiety and suicidal ideation. I came off it and my state improved so much. Never looked back since. Incompetent doctors for prescribing and not giving a $#!t
My sleep gradually recovered over a couple of months after coming off. It took about five months for my state of mind to recover and feel normal again.
For me, that wasny that hard to come - I came ofc that cold turkey. BUT that was only because i was on two other different meds at the time so that cushioned my fall. I have tapered completely from 10mg of lexapro, so not taking that at all now and tapered from 45mg mirtazapine down to 1.5mg and will taper off that completely over the next 6 months to 1 year. For anyone tapering, a hyperbolic taper is best using a liquid suspension, which I make up myself every week. Anyone in this position has my full respect and empathy and I wish all the best
Oh wow I'm watching much more videos from this channel. This is very well done! I keep getting recommended seroquel videos after googling it. I've tried to look up medications before. But this video was very uniquely informative. Really really excellent, more thorough than any videos I've seen of this type. I took seroquel for a month and went off instead of refilling. Felt like I drank 3 drinks before bed, then hungover the next day - the hypnotic state. After a few weeks I felt it didn't put me to sleep as well so I stopped rather than increasing it. After making others changes too.
I'm on 100mg. It made my hands shaky at first, but that went away after a day. The other big thing I noticed is that I got a reasonable attention span back and could concentrate again, which was amazing and later on I noticed that I slept well every night, which with mental illness was not normal. I haven't had issues with weight gain, emotionality I'm a bit blunted and weirdly I stopped writing my diary as much or in as much detail as I have for years when I was in hospital, which was when I was put on quetiapine, but I'm was also put on venlafaxine around the same time. I now can't sleep without the quetiapine.
I'm in the same situation with sleep and quetiapine. It was nice knowing a life where I didn't need drugs to fall asleep, unfortunately that kind of life isn't happening in the foreseeable future
Addicting, you can't stop to keep taking it. Get high dosed sleeping pills for a while then quit Seroquel, and after a while slow down calming pills. You'll start to learn to sleep again in case of chemically shutting your brain off and forget what someone said yesterday
I was on it for a similar amount of time, after finding out it is why I now have hypothyroidism and high blood sugar I stopped it cold turkey. So far the worst is the lack of sleep. Evil drug
My story exactly I tried to get off it but could not sleep. If I runout I don't sleep all night. Hate this drug and wordy about what it is doing to my brain, have been prescribed for many years I am 70 years old and worry it will increase my risk of dementia. Listening to this video makes me wonderwhy anyone should take it increasing many complications.
Never worked for me woke up and had a manic episode and high blood pressure and went to the hospital just like every other med I've tried I'm pretty much medication resistant I won't take another antipsychotic ever again
Thanks for the great info! I think there's a need to re-think psychopharmacology without using Stahl's texts, ideas and graphics. Stahl's books are great but I think we can do much better.
Type 1 diabetic for 30 years been on Seroquel 5 years…never had retinopathy til this now, and will be blind they wanted me blind and suppressed I lost out on life because of this DRUG

Thank you for this informative video.👍 I have a couple questions. 1. How hard is Quetiapine to withdraw from compared to other antipsychotics? 2. When withdrawing from Quetiapine Immediate Release, is it a good idea to take it in two doses (morning and evening) to avoid inter-dose withdrawal symptoms due to its short half life? 3. What are your thoughts on prescribing low-dose Quetiapine off-label for insomnia? Would you say it is overkill to prescribe a drug that affects so many neurotransmitter systems when the main effect you are looking for is histamine antagonism to help with sleep? An old antihistamine like doxylamine might do the job just as well, and with fewer side effects. I'm not asking for medical advice, just your personal opinion.
My son was taking 400mg of Quetiapine and 50mg of Haloperidol. We took him down to 2mg of Haloperidol for about a year or so; then, we just recently started reducing the Quetiapine to 375mg bc he's tired of how it makes him feel. It is the gentler of anti-psychotics but I wouldn't recommend any meds if possible. Try "neurtro-ceuticals" to help if at all possible. He has Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) so the Quetiapine helps with that. But when we reduced just 25mg his hyperthyroid numbers got worse. I just wish that all doctors would tell you everything up front and take it a little slower. I've had to be his doctor and do titrating and everything. He gained 40lbs in about 2 months and it has been challenging to try to lose it. His bloodwork shows almost all the "rare/dangerous" symptoms. He's been on it for about 3 1/2 years and just dropping 25mg causes Akathisia and some psychosis to return. He's only 24. Very thorough and informative video btw.
Invaluable for me for mood stabilising...I have found it treats my c-ptsd as well as Bipolar 2. Many of my friends have found it very good for C-PTSD alone. Some issues with dissociation at lower doses in the beginning and can trigger body based flashbacks as feeling hypnotic can trigger that so for folks with DID they need to be aware and monitored while building a new normal feeling in the body, and as it makes you sleepy it can make DID folks want to avoid sleep or taking meds as systems that have heavy nocturnal switching will be affected by changes to that routine but once tolerated helped immensely especially due to its versatility and not having to be on med Mary go round with new symptoms that pop up. Personally find it helps reduce orafractory and visual flashbacks that have an element of hallucination to them which can be confused with psychosis to the untrained eye and because of this its worth being under the supervision of a psychiatrist rather than a GP for maintenance for those who suffer hallucination flashbacks to avoid being on an unnecessarily high dose.
Seroquel had some pretty nasty effects on me, I was started on 100 mg but opted to decrease my dose to 50 mg because I experienced heavy sedation which was super debilitating, on top of the sedation I also experiences extreme congestion is my nose, it was so bad I couldnonly breath through my mouth and my eyes and mouth were also very dry. I got sick of all of the side effects and ended up coming off of Seroquel cold turkey
Can you discuss how to get a person with psychosis to take medication if they are unaware they have a problem? I’ve heard that you shouldn’t play into the delusions but could a way to get them to take medication, tell them it will help with the voices? Thank you for your wealth of knowledge and I’m also curious from the listeners what has helped them to seek medication while experiencing the symptoms. Thank you everyone.
I’m taking 175mg and it’s all I can take due to sedation, it’s not helping my paranoia and depression. My Dr is suggesting Latuda because thinks it can hit the areas Seroquel isn’t hitting? Suggestion? This is for BP2, OCD and anxiety
Although research shows Seroquel to be just as effective as a monotherapy as it is adjacent to the SSRI (like Zoloft, Lexapro, or Prozac) for mixed manic-depressive symptoms, is it common for many psychiatrists to augment an SSRI with lower doses of Seroquel (like 25-100mg)?
I have some questions. Is there a name for this receptor chart? Its immensely interesting! I didn't know there were so many receptors. Also I wonder why there is a muscarinic receptor? Are we supposed to eat fly agaric? How come this connection, do all living beings have this receptor? Is that why the mushroom 🍄 makes this chemical? It killes other creatures that eat it?
I feel very drowsy upong taking Seroquel for my bipolar depression [perhaps due to the low dosage, and experiencing weight gain, despite my active workout lifestyle and food intake
Can 100 mg xr cause tardive dyskinesia? What dose is needed for anxiety. I used to use antidepressants but they caused me to get tinnitus so now I'm scared of taking any ssri so my doctor suggested seroquel for extreme anxiety.
My 26 year old son in Autism spectrum high functioning began Quetiapine Mylan 150mg extended release 2 weeks ago 03 July 2023 1 tablet at night unfortunately a week later he had epileptic seizure so now Neurologist has added 1tablet Epanutin 100mg day and night. Yesterday he had on forehead a swell and around eyes with swell and red color so I took him to Emergency and they prescribed Xozal 5 mg for allergy .. Has anyone same experience? Note: For first time in his life he started meds 22 December 2022 with Risperdone genesome Rispelen 0.5 mg day for a month 1 mg day and later 1mg morning and 1 mg at afternoon /or night was added.. was doing well up to April 2023 but when Psychiatrist decided to subtract 0.5mg the afternoon/or night tablet he started after a week suddenly getting irrated and impulsive behaviors! So I changed Psychiatrist and new Dr. decided to gradually remove Rispelen and added 2 tabletsx50mg Megazon extended release (Quetiapine genesome) 27 May until 2 July. 3 July he stayed with only 1 tablet Quetiapine 150mg Mylan extended release at night and a week later he had epileptic seizure suddenly! Can somebody relate similar experience?
I take 300mg once a day at night and it has absolutely been a life saver. I have bipolar 1 and pretty bad anxiety so sleep is very elusive to me, and seroquel not only has treated my insomnia and let me get a good 8+ hours of sleep, it helps regulate my bipolar. I don’t have very many episodes of mania or severe depression but maybe 2 times a year. The ONLY side effect I’ve had is that is affects my ability to regulate body temperature so I can become overheated very easily and feel like I’m going to faint if I overdo it physically. Taking all that into consideration the benefits that I receive from the medication absolutely outweighs the one side effect I have. I have also tried rexulti and Abilify but had terrible weight gain and cravings. So seroquel has been a game changer for me that treats SO many symptoms I was experiencing. 10/10 would recommend for anyone with bipolar 1, moderate to severe anxiety, and insomnia.
Very useful drug for me. I have ADHD with anxiety so no stimulants required. Also HBP and my menopausal symptoms (night sweats) have bettered with seroquel.
I hope this works for me, I've been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type 2, This is the first medication I will be starting. I'm a bit afraid of all long-term side effects though, say I get better, will it be worth pemanent damage to my mind and body? I'm so uncertain. :(

Worth it so far for me, I hope it keep improving. Thanks for asking!

And sometimes i feel i am being touched or nums.. i showed the dr some movement he got scared and reaced for the door. I told him i am being possessed with demons. .. he recommended me to see a psychiatric and prescribed quetiapine ..i wonder how would the psychiatric help?
I noticed that 300 and 200 mg make me sleep more and eat more I think the H1 blocking is increased by increasing the dose 👍👍 also high doses of quetiapine make me more anxious.

This medication is not advised for those with dementia, though I have seen it used in this population it comes with an increased risk of death, so that has to be considered first. Weigh the risks vs benefits. When it is used, it is typically used in smallest doses to help calm the patient so 25-50mg.

I was on it for a few months for sleep until I got in such a bad state I could not sleep any longer, the side effects were so bad, such as severe anxiety and suicidal ideation. I came off it and my state improved so much. Never looked back since. Incompetent doctors for prescribing and not giving a $#!t
Was it hard to get off? I couldn't sleep at all.
how many weeks you recover after taking it off?
Could You please make a video about gaining weight on different antidepressants? That would be very thankful 💚
Thanks for the video idea. I will consider it.
Weight gain as side effect for me is catastrophic. Decades of anorexia slowed my metabolism and triggers ana thoughts. 😢
Metformin and exericse in conjunction with Quetiapine can help with metabolic syndrome.
I take 1,000mg a day of metformin to help with the metabolic syndrome from seroquel. I haven’t lost any weight, but I have quit gaining.
Metformin gives me insomnia
I take 100mg to go to bed at night and it works so well
Where are you from? it boggles my mind that an anti-psychotic for people with mental disorders would be prescribed to people who just have insomnia
12.5mg works fine for my insomnia. No side effects.
I was prescribed 25mg for insomnia too and honestly, it works. I couldn't imagine being on dosages like 300mg though. Holy crap, that's insane.
Same here I cut 25 mg in half at night.
What about for patients suffering from multiple neurofibromatosis type 1
My experience, venlafaxine did cause me emotional blunting
Not addicting, but I literally cannot sleep without it... Been on it for 15 years, and just can't get off it
I'm in the same situation with sleep and quetiapine.
@@JenReid12how long have you been on it for?
It helped me. Started on the lowest dose. Over years gradually increased the dose.
Never worked for me woke up and had a manic episode and high blood pressure and went to the hospital just like every other med I've tried I'm pretty much medication resistant I won't take another antipsychotic ever again
You are god sent. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Best explanation
Thanks for watching the video.
Works for me. It probably helps that I live a disciplined and healthy lifestyle.
Absolutely!
Can you please explain why quetiapin Hits only the h1 receptor at 50mg and below? Are the others really not effected? I ask because i m on 50mg for sleep right now and i think i can live with that low dose for some time. Thx a lotCan you please explain why quetiapin Hits only the h1 receptor at 50mg and below?
1. Slow tapering is suggested . 2. Take the regular dosage. 3. It is used off label for insomnia. Chat with your GP for other options. Stay healthy.
@@arricammarques1955 how to taper 25 mg of serquel
I cam watch you talk all day
My son was taking 400mg of Quetiapine and 50mg of Haloperidol.
Wow best information in youtube
Thank you so much for watching.
Great explanation! Also, you’re so pretty
I love your presentation
The back ground music is not needed ❤️
It seems like Buspirone would be such a safer medication when someone is considering a medication for anxiety
Thank you
Yes and no. I'm tapering off that because I was taking buspirone and wellbutrin together and it was making me depressed.
Excellent video!! Can you please make a video on agomelatine??
Thanks for the video idea.
This was so helpful- Thank you!
Can i take Pregabalin and Seroquel toogether??
Not a good combo, would be too sedating.
I feel very drowsy upong taking Seroquel for my bipolar depression [perhaps due to the low dosage, and experiencing weight gain, despite my active workout lifestyle and food intake
How many mg are you on
Does it causes
Infertilty
Suger
Blood pressure
Can stop it randomly.
Can 100 mg xr cause tardive dyskinesia? What dose is needed for anxiety. I used to use antidepressants but they caused me to get tinnitus so now I'm scared of taking any ssri so my doctor suggested seroquel for extreme anxiety.
Low mg for sleep works for me
My 26 year old son in Autism spectrum high functioning began Quetiapine Mylan 150mg extended release 2 weeks ago 03 July 2023 1 tablet at night unfortunately a week later he had epileptic seizure so now Neurologist has added 1tablet Epanutin 100mg day and night. Yesterday he had on forehead a swell and around eyes with swell and red color so I took him to Emergency and they prescribed Xozal 5 mg for allergy .. Has anyone same experience?
Note:
For first time in his life he started meds
22 December 2022
with Risperdone genesome
Rispelen 0.5 mg day for a month 1 mg day and later 1mg morning and 1 mg at afternoon /or night was added..
was doing well up to April 2023 but when Psychiatrist decided to subtract 0.5mg the afternoon/or night tablet
he started after a week suddenly getting irrated and impulsive behaviors!
Hi I’m currently on 10 mg citalopram is it safe to take magnesium glycinate
Anybody has positive stories on this drug?!
Exercising really helps, limit stressors helps quite a bit.

Today, i went to dr to check if i have mental illness. What had made me walk to the clinic is i have noticed some of body parts shacks or vibrates. And sometimes i feel i am being touched or nums.. i showed the dr some movement he got scared and reaced for the door. I told him i am being possessed with demons. .. he recommended me to see a psychiatric and prescribed quetiapine ..i wonder how would the psychiatric help?
Congrats! Does 150 -300mg dose block H1 as well or as the dose goes up the H1 blockage is getting limited?
Great question. With the higher doses H1 is still blocked, which is why the side effects and especially weight gain.
I noticed that 300 and 200 mg make me sleep more and eat more I think the H1 blocking is increased by increasing the dose 👍👍 also high doses of quetiapine make me more anxious.

What’s the best dose for physcosis in dementia….
This medication is not advised for those with dementia, though I have seen it used in this population it comes with an increased risk of death, so that has to be considered first. Weigh the risks vs benefits. When it is used, it is typically used in smallest doses to help calm the patient so 25-50mg.

Do you think it's safe to take seroquel if you are not schizophrenic or diagnosed with BPD? I have ptsd and major depressive disorder, and have been experiencing long spirals where I feel out of touch with reality. My psychiatrist prescribed seroquel to boost my zoloft.
Its been found useful according to studies with refractory depression. Many docs use it off label for PTSD.
