Why are your reviews better shot and lit than most movies?
The love for cinematography
That’s what I said just now lol

Truth
When the FBI agent says “He goes on like that for another 24 minutes”, I was like “Hit the play button right now”. Cage was amazing!
😂😂😂😂I was thinking the same but then rethought it because the movie was so intense that I wanted it to end already
there better be a directors cut with him just singing for 24 minutes straight
Nicholas Cage scared me for the first time. That beginning shot got me. Wow. He was awesome in this movie. 🤯
“I wore my long legs today”
@@DaneMarshall56377 i got chills when he said that.
Lmao you soft little tarts. Guy was acting like an old wine mom 😄
@@tyler2102 as someone with an old white mom - that’s a compliment.
@@impatrickt it says wine not white but sure dude you see what you want 😄
SOME of us DID have a nightmare about longlegs after they watched this movie lmaoooo my brain took him literally and made him a spider and it was terrifying
love it
That's exactly what i'm trying to say. All Horror is subjective, what might scare someone, might not scare someone else. Personally this movie shook me to my core.
Went to a late night showing of this movie by myself. It has been years since I've gone to a movie alone. After the movie, I drove home in complete silence trying to comprehend what I just witnessed. I felt disturbed and unsettled. Great movie.
That's how you do it. I did that with long legs too as well as in a violent nature. Although I didn't like the latter all too much. I seen oddity as well and didn't like it. My faves of the year are late night with the devil and long legs. So satanic and scary. I can't wait for cuckoo. I love how strange all these horror movies are. Oddity was my least favorite. I really wanna see 28 years later. I want a zombie movie on the big screen
just got out of the theater watching this - it’s probably one of the most evil things i’ve watched in a while. it reminded me a lot of the darker elements of X-Files, Twin Peaks & Silence of the Lambs
You nailed it
I agree. That’s what makes it scary.. it leaves you contemplating the evil
Any modern films that you'd say gave the closest feeling? The newest horror films I've watched were Late Night With the Devil and When Evil Lurks, and I'd say both of those end on a more evil than hopeful note.
You recommend it then? I love horror but the ones they put out are cheesy lol
Most evil things? You a baby 😂
It’s very diabolic…a lot of people went in there thinking it’s just a silence of the lambs type movie
@@jonathanvega3835 sorry I thought it was silly. Cage didnt do much but bd weird. They kind of unloaded devil worship without showing much of it. It just seemed very thrown together
*in Michael Caine voice*
Longlegs is the scariest guy I've ever seen!
Not really. He was more of a gentle giant.
looks like Lisa Rinna
Wow I fell asleep
Its so unfortunate that Nic Cage became such a meme over the past decade or so because people do tend to overlook some of his great performances and such. I really think it was smart for the marketing team to focus less on him and focus more on the mystery.
@@JWickyJr13 PIG gotta be one my fav movies of the last while and Nic is so good.
Saw it last night, never knew fear-edging was a thing, now I do.
I LOVE that you made the “SUBSCRIBE” roll at the end in the same directions that the credits roll! Great video as always Patrick!
🙏🫶
Bro, I felt the same way about the wide shots, especially whenever there were doors present. And the doorways were always open too. I kept waiting for something or someone to pop up out of em. Fucking unnerving.
honestly it should've been a 3 hour long movie.
At the Q&A I went to, Oz said they shot it all on film and showed us the movie on 35mm
@@nastyladd in all of the behind the scenes they’re using an Alexa though lol - edit yeah confirmed Alexa mini LF.
Such a thoughtful and creative way to review this movie!
Man I just subscribed. Love this review!
came for the review. stayed for the production. subscribed for your personality!!
@@maxxcalilung5157 Appreciate you!
Patrick, I could not agree more with you more. It is so beautifully filmed, from the first scene, I too was looking for the small details around. MANY times I actually said out loud "wtf am I watching?"
Just so relieved to see a film like this again, spooky and authentic.
I actually got jumped scared 2 times when warching longlegs, its been years since ive seen something this good and that was actually captivating every second i watched it. I couldve believe that was Nicolas cage when i first saw him show up in the movie. She did such a good job as lee,it allmost seemed real
Glad to see you back in action. Going to go see this next week!
The final scene made me tremble.
Longlegs… creepy af… really good… very different… comparing it to Silence of the Lambs does it injustice… it is its own thing…the only similarity is a young rookie FBI agent… Nicholas Cage is unrecognizable… haunting ❤️
I agree that it’s NOT the scariest movie of the decade and the hype kinda hurts what a great movie it is.
Go make your movie. What are you waiting for?
Looking forward to watching this movie, Thanks Patrick!
I THINK LONGLEGS IS LEE'S FATHER!!!
i found it strange that her father was not mentioned the whole movie. the father could have left them early on in lee's life then returned with that plastic surgery look which could explain y they thought he was a stranger. it could be a play on word association with the spider daddy lonlegs. otherwise y name the killer that random word.
anyone else agree? any other evidence?
i have not heard this theory yet
The scene when she’s in the phone to her mom at the station,
The exit door to her left has an orange ish light peeking through the door windows. To her right is a staircase with bright yellow white light peeking through. I think this is a hint to heaven and hell and that lee is closer to hell than she knows
I feel you on the marketing! Got my tickets for this Saturday, and I am absolutely blown away this film is in theatres where I am (Mumbai) and I feel you on the jealousy bit too!!
What a great review!! I can’t wait for it to get to Prime so I can watch it. I also love movies that make me want to make movies- you hit on all the points that make a movie great for me as well. Certified horror and true crime junkie here- you need to Perkins other films! Blackcoat’s Daughter has a slow burn too and it leaves you feeling messed up. He has a really unique vision. Gretel and Hansel is dark and awesome too!!
oh!! And please make that movie!!!! 🍿 ❤️
Always remember as a teenager hearing that seeing Alien in the cinema was critical because of the widescreen and wide shots with the dark corners and tunnels of the ship at the edges, not knowing what was hiding in those shadows. In the 80s and 90s you had pan and scan versions that took that away on 4:3 sadly. Finally got to see it years later and I think your comment on that wide angle choice is spot on, it is like pushing out to the edges of your peripheral vision (often where your brain likes to play tricks on you with sudden and imagined movement).
Dude you need more subscribers for the editing alone
For those that say this movie isn’t ‘the scariest or creepiest movie ever’, I would love to know what movie you think is scariest or creepiest
Yes, i did not like Longlegs because of how horrible the slow burn beginning and teribble ending it is, it did not scare me at all, it just was thrilling. For me the scariest/creepiest movie I've seen would be, Hereditary and probably also Parasite or Smile.
It wants so hard to be Silence of the Lambs.
@@MoonlightCactus I loved Hereditary! I’m with you there. People either loved or hated it. Haven’t seen parasite but Smile was great
@@MoonlightCactusuh parasite is a literal thriller and smile? bye your opinion is invalidated
@MoonlightCactus slow is exactly what I wanted. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it.
I have different feelings about the film, although totally agree about how slick it looks and investigating the corners of the frame! Always love to hear your thoughts, glad you enjoyed it. I just thought it'd have a bit more going for it.
Please make your movie.
When I was watching this film I was filled with anxiety and dread. When it was over I didn’t think it was too scary and then I got home lol. Where I live alone and DAMN this film was in my head and it has stayed there ever since. Incredible filmmaking and performances. I can’t wait to go back to see it again in a couple days, definitely the best film of the year so far!
One of my favorite films that give me that horror feeling of suspense was the strangers when it first came out and my fam n I rented it from blockbuster 😂 watching Long legs on Sunday, very excited for it
3:56 That David Fincher clip, that's literally me when I was watching Longlegs. Hahahha😂
same
that clip is just the perfect description of nicolas cage
Just found this channel. Great review!
It’s a very good movie but I wouldn’t say creepy at all but I’m someone who doesn’t even turn on the light to use the bathroom at night so that might say something😂😂
I also seen the ending coming but that doesn’t make it bad yk
Seeing it Today, can't wait!
Subbed, brilliant non spoiler review.
Something that I discovered about this movie after watching an interview with the director yesterday, was that Nicholas Cage said to the director that he wanted to do it exactly how he wrote it, Oz Perkins told Nicholas that he could add a little, tweak something if he wantes to, but Nicholas read the script and loved it so much, that he said no, I want to do this exactly how you have it pictured, and we get one of the best horror performances of the past decade, (I haven't gotten to see the film yet, but I will this upcoming week for my birthday), I'm so pumped, and nervous in the best way to see this film, psychological thriller's are my favorite's, (Scream is a good example of non-supernatural, horror/thriller, Zodiac, Seven, heck midsommar and Hereditary as well, the slow burn, slow reveals and then the movie ends, and leaves you...scarred, affected, thinking, pondering for many months and year's to come about the experience you just had). 😃
Going to see this film in a couple of hours, can't wait! Have you seen Maika in God is a Bullet? She was incredible and made the whole movie. Another film of hers to check out is Watcher.
Need to see this asap
The 90s thriller connection is also in the cast - Blair Underwood was in JUST CAUSE.
Got a new sub. Keep it up buddy
Looking well, man!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I can move my arms again!
I have no doubt that there’s actually 24 minutes of Nicholas Cage singing Happy Birthday
There is, they confirmed he went on for about 25 minutes and they just watched.
The long and strange fames is quite analog to me as well. True, its not analog because its digital, but the elements are there. Sounds as well throughout the movie. The dread build ups also.
Glad people are liking it because I love Osgood Perkins but was underwhelmed by Longlegs.
Check The Blackcoat's Daughter. It's Osgood at his best.
Love how you extended the screen just like in the film!
This movie delivered on all fronts. It deserves strong consideration come Oscar time but it’s so nihilistic I sadly doubt it will.
Every time I saw NC as longlegs I just wanted to laugh so bad 🤣
I remember watching ozgood perkins' gretel & hansel and although it wasn't my favorite, the movie was so atmospheric and creepy. Super excited to see this film
Don’t get your hopes too high, I did and was extremely underwhelmed. This movie is not scary or bizarre or even gory. Very disappointing.
Watch Blackcoats daughter
Yeah he missed on Gretel. But he hit on that and this.
Now I know what I'm watching this weekend :)
Don’t expect much bro. I just saw it 5/10
i saw it last night and it was incredible, 8 or 9/10 for me
@@andrewcruz3837 I just saw it. 10/10
@@danielbryantx nah definitely not and many others agree with me
I'm going to try to build up enough courage to see it.
It’s really not that scary I watched it tonight
It's more of a constant horror atmosphere than scary imo.
It’s not scary at all , don’t have to build up anything but get some good sleep before you see it cause it drags like crazy
It’s more of a horror comedy with graphic violence. Plus a lot of the dialogue is unintentionally funny
@@davidw.r.7801 I’ve always found that Buffalo Bill was scary and Longlegs was like a totally wacked out version of him so I found it quite scary.
Great movie. Wife and I went and saw it last night and we both enjoyed it a lot. Get out to see it soon in the theater.
So glad this film was not at all what I expected (in the best possible way). If you're looking for another great Oz Perkins movie after this, highly recommend starting with Blackcoat's Daughter. Has a lot of the same very deliberate camerawork and deals with some of the same themes and motifs, while similarly featuring a knock-out performance from Kiernan Shipka, who played Carrie Anne Camera in Longlegs.
Gonna watch it tonight. Glad you enjoyed LONGLEGS!
Need to rewatch Blackcoat's Daughter sometime. I'd recommend his ghost story I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House. I made the mistake of watching that movie when I was alone in the house one night, & it left me feeling so unsettled that I found myself needing to turn the lights back on the second the credits rolled, & LongLegs left me feeling just as unnerved. Osgood Perkins is one of the few horror directors who doesn't need to use a whole load of cheap jumpscares to scare the audience, he knows exactly how to creep you out just through the use of atmosphere alone.
Not watching because I haven’t seen it yet but HELL YEAH I’m so keen
Not comments suggesting you watch Zodiac, man who has literal crew clothes from the production and the DVD menu of Zodiac looping in your office.
I love that movie so much I’m a suspect in the case
It’s like the zodiac basement but on steroids 🔥🔥
Patrick, you've mentioned that that's the only Oz Perkins' movie you've seen (not that he made many ;)). I can recommend The Blackcoat's Daughter - it has more supernatural elements in it (if you wish for them), but the style and presentation is very similar to Longlegs. Very eerie.
Woot! Love this as a recommendation. Se7en was huge for me…and my dissertation! Nic Cage too- that seals the deal
I see what you did there with that opening editing! Well played. Great review. New fan here!

I was actually underwhelmed by the horror elements of the film. Solid execution. Felt like they left a lot of the more interesting ideas on the table.
Interesting that they chose this wide angle look. Am I wrong or do you usually don't get to see a lot of the frame in horror movies in order to make it more scary?
Hi there! You might enjoy Zodiac, based on the serial killer by the moniker. It's a very slow burn, but by the end, you get a lot of the same feelings and fear, and Jake Gyllenhaal's character, as the reporter, is so burned out that he struggles to separate hallucinations from reality. It's a lot better than I expected. Another one you've likely seen that's more horror with some crime is Let Me In. Elias Koteas is brilliant as the detective who slowly loses his grip once he realizes that he's dealing with...well, things that shouldn't exist. Also, a really just CREEPY film is The Ice Storm. Another slow burn, but trust me. It's weird.
@@MellissaBoomeroftheNight zodiac is my fav movie of all time. I mention it in this video 🤘
What camera and lens did you use here?
@@cupded don’t worry about cameras and what not. it’s just production design and wardrobe. 👌
Why I wanna see this more than like any movie ever? 👄
Everything worked for me but the last act. Got real exposition heavy at one point and the final reveal really let me down.
The flashbacks where actually shot on 35mm film, so the whole thing isn't digital, but I get what you're saying. I love how wide everything is, it's the style of cinematography I prefer and it's a nice escape from the recent movies like Dune and Oppenheimer, which although also beautiful in there own way, are way too tight lensed at points for my liking.
its funny that the flashbacks didnt even look like film either LOL
I also really liked it but It did really freak me out and kept me up a little at night. I’m a valentines baby so maybe it was too close to home ahaha
You should watch dreamkill from vhs85 if you want that eerie feeling of someone watching. Scott Derrickson also made sinister which is very similar to longlegs
watch "blackcoats daughter" its dope.
That movie is trash
Got to watch The Blackcoat's Daughter!
This movie has the same exact vibes as Hereditary, everything from the tone, hype, reactions, and i gotta say Hereditary stayed with me so much that it didn't let me fuckin sleep for a few nights. Very few movies have done that in my life time, if you can't call that scary, idk what can be called scary, but i certainly hope Longless hits the same, i need some trauma in my life
Longlegs HITS! Nick cages greatest horror performance ever. And the twist/whole movie was a fkn crazy ride. All over the place in a great way. If you love slow paced build ups and constant suspense. You’ll end up loving this.
Ya sold me on it. Hereditary is my favorite horror movie.
Smile
Do you think the look of this film is relatively easy to duplicate? Not the lighting necessarily but even shots where they are filming outside in natural light. It looks digital but it doesn't look crappy digital like most youtube content attempting this look. It's hard to describe. Are the lenses just that amazing or is there some magic to the color grade?
@@chrisbutler8856 production design, lenses, grading, also the natural light is shaped too.
This is one of the best film reviews I’ve seen in a while, perfect to accompany what might be my new favorite horror film. I just saw it today and I’m still just soaking it in hours later, the way you recreate the look just goes to show your appreciation for the art and your understanding of it. This is awesome.
The review is horrible, the movie is mediocre....
@@ironbran12finally someone with common sense. The advertising for this film 10/10, the actual movie? 5/10
@BeardedBushMan81 yea, you would think it's something we haven't seen 800 times before or it was an evolution of the genre. It's a decent thriller at best. I can name 10 movies off the top of my head that did it much better and were scary .
Gretel and Hansel is great too.
I think Oz’s brother Elvis composed the score for the film. And you should definitely check out ‘The Blackcoats Daughter’😊
You need to see black coats daughter
I HATE horror movies so I will not be watching this, but as usual, this was an awesome breakdown Patrick! Keep it up!
you can watch it! its not a horror at all. when i got to the theatre the woman next to me warned me shes a jumper and scared easily. she didnt jump once. she laughed multiple times though.
@@dragonspeaks5973 is it like scary though? I don’t do well with any type of scary movie haha
I haven’t seen this movie yet but the reviews are off the scale. I shall be watching it....preferably alone in the dark 😈
What camera and lenses do you use?
all cameras are good now just grab one in your budget
Can anybody find the ost of the movie. Not only original score but also other songs? Because I really liked it
the intro song is called jewels by t.rex
man those references to the Zodiac Killer! Typos in coded messages. Truly creepy
I thought it was good, but could of done without the comedic undertone from longlegs. Absolutely love the way it was shot. The wide perspective told its own story with each frame. However, I still have the Black Phone above this for the serial killer genre
glad you liked some of it!
First part of the movie was pretty good, but halfway through to the end felt like it was lacking
Man I really wanted to like it more than I did. I did like it though so don’t get that wrong.
The first hour or so was genuinely a 9/10 for me. The cinematography, showing just enough of Longlegs, the audio and acting. Everything was top tier.
Once they get into the dolls though the movie fell incredibly flat for me, and felt extremely rushed. They could’ve benefited from another 20 minutes honestly.
It felt a little too sinister meets Annabelle at the end. Which would’ve worked for me in a movie like malignant, but fell very flat for me here.
This was my most anticipated movie of honestly the last couple years so I’m a little disappointed but i still had a great time.
I’d give it a 7/10
OMG, you HAVE to see The Blackcoat's Daughter!
I had a sense of dread the entire film, I absolutely loved it and will see it again before it leaves theaters. Btw I like your shirt!!
Just watched this movie, loved it. Terrifying
I need a job right now so I can go watch Longlegs 🎥
............only The Shadow knows..............
Go watch The Black Coats daughter if you haven't seen his other stuff. One of my favorites.
You really need to watch more horror films if you thought that mess was scary
He looks like the foggy Nelson of film tubers (non derogatory)
Whose legs are long though?
I think it might be the best horror movie i ever saw
Honestly.... Hyped up....nicely marketed.... just
decent...Watched it last night and
don't even recall Nicholas Cage role.. Certainly not scary... ..hardly any uuhs and aaahs from audience in the theater...
Lack of tension and pacing of the
movie....No specific character stood
out or lead the movie ....
Cinematography was very good with nice light and shadows and the dark theme and camera angles but
the story did not back it up nor was gripping ....Things
just happened and meas audience
expected some creepy stuff...Not ust
shooting and killings anid dead
bodies....Going in a horror movie we
expected more demonic angle or
some connection to the other
universe.Or a backstory that would have given more engagement to the audience.... .There were scenes that
started to build up to something but
eventually the scene cuts off to
something else.... It could have been very promising with great background score and good acting.... . 6/10.... Just my take.... There are way better movies....
why is this written like a haiku
Movie wasn’t scary but was still decent bc of Nic Cage
longlegs was nightmarish and totally deranged, i loved it! 👹
Make the f. movie Patrick. 👏
Shame everybody can't watch. As usual you must stream. Maybe can rent later on?
