Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I love the lighting in that new shed where you've been parking the tractors. It's literally like DAYLIGHT!
Great comment😂
Saw this comment before I watched the video and was confused 😭
@@lukesegraves9912 heh heh
great,,,,,,
new shed has really good ventilation and really nice sized doors.
No running equipment into those doors that’s for sure. 😂
Love the camo paint too.
Ceiling height is phenomenal!
only the sky is the limit 😎
Can be a bit dark at night. 🤔
Jim is a legend. He didn't make an appearance, but his welding skills do. Legendary!
Zach, you can use a shop vac on the oil fill to pull the plug and change the gasket on the plug with out the oil draining bud. Just put some suction on the oil fill to create a pressure differential. Old trick, still works...
I was coming here to say this. Hope this reply will give this comment some visibility.
I have never seen this done but I may try it. I'll be sure to take video in case it doesn't work 🤣
Gotta hit 1 million this harvest! Do it for Anna!!!

Hey Zach, your Dad is a "cool hand Luke" - ALWAYS cool, calm and collective !!
Congratulations on your new combine, hope your harvest is bountiful and safe. I look forward to seeing Jim welding soon.
Me, too !! What a loyal person - Jim is a fine man !!
Zach put a shop vac hose on the hole where the dipstick goes - pull a suction and you can remove the oil plug without losing any oil while you change the oring.
You first!😂
@@transmitterguy478 speaking from experience.
I have heard that before. I keep forgetting to try it when I change oil in my truck, just to see. You think it will work in a chev 350 engine. I will find out just to know.
Edit; there are a few comments stating the same from other mechanics, so there is certainly something to it. Unless it's a mechanic joke - yah, check the blinker fluid while your at it. I am dumb enough to find out though.
@@hawks2252 I'm sure it would. Works great on my 7.3
Since when did they eliminate the crank case vent. Fly at it.
Vacuum cleaner over fill spout. Remove dump plug, replace seal, put the plug back in. Problem solved, no oil loss. I did it with a hydraulic line on my Agco draper 2 days ago. Works really well. Good luck mate from Australia.
I've had a couple people mention this. I'm not sure I trust it lol
@@MillennialFarmer try it, you'll be blown away.
Hoping the weather stays nice for you guys as well, looking like a pretty rainy stretch for our area. Muddy harvest season inbound haha 😄
That bucket attachment is the perfect job for a magdrill...would make quick work of it. You should get one if you don't have one...like a portable drill press
Absolutely! Mag Drills are one of those tools that you didn’t realize you needed until you have one and then you can’t live without it.
for youre oil leak hook a shop vacuum to the fill and seal it up it will create a vacuum and let you remove the oil plug to change the o ring
“WELCOME TO THE MAP EVERYBODY” What a awesome thing to hear when you load in.
933K and counting, 1 000 000 is getting closer fast. Anna should get a proper ride in the new Combine when you hit the Bar.
getting her up a combine ladder might be good content
Here’s to hoping the new shed is up for winter storage!
let's hope!
Take a shop vac and tape it to the oil fill, turn it on, pull the plug and replace the o-ring
Use a shop vac on the oil fill hole to create a vacuum to keep oil in engine while changing the plug seal.
Just realise how long i have been followed you. Watching Ahao grow up, Dawang be fatten up and your baking skill level up over years has been one of my great joys.
Always good to have your videos, I can't wait every year for planting and harvest to watch you and your family.
On the 660r bucket attachment, since Jim is doing the work😁, If it were me, I would have him drill holes in the center AND at each end so you can move it over if you have to, and then it's more flexible. Keep it in the center normally but if you need to move it just take the old Milwaukee impact, zip out the bolts, move it over then zip them back in.😊
Surprised with a need to drill big holes, you don't have a mag drill. I would think with all the heavy equipment this isn't a one time need.
Enjoy watching you and your dad working together, I loved helping my dad on the farm growing up, my dream was to farm with him but he never farmed very much and he actually ended up taking bankruptcy and had to quite farming back in the 80's. He always sold half his crop on futures and thought he was always safe doing that until we had a very dry year and he didn't even have half a crop to take out, you could drive the combine back and forth several times in the field before getting a full hopper on combine. By the way I always liked those Red machines but we did have 1 green tractor it was a gas 3020.
So a really dumb question: If one oversells on futures you end up buying high and selling low to make up the difference right?
And yes i probably should have asked someone this decades ago 😅
Vacuum in the oil fill will pull suction and you can take the plug out, change the o-ring, and put it back on. No prob
As a temporary fix for the leaking drain plug (or missing gasket / crush washer and parts stores are closed) you can back the drain plug out enough to get a couple/three/four wraps of cotton string / twine (think masons string) then retighten the drain plug. Viola - no more leaks.
Call it a pro tip, pro hack, diy hack or jerry-rig, it works!
If you put a shop vac on the oil fill point sealed up you can remove sump plug without anything leaking 👌🏻
If you use a shop vac on the oil filler it will pull positive vacuum and you can remove plug and change with out loosing a drop of oil have done several times
Yes you can take that out for that drain plug I've seen other mechanics use a good old shot back the suck the oil up in and then you could take and put your new drain plug or put a good o-ring back into it then put it back together again
They've been out in the fields here in Iowa. Slowly, but they are out there. I was picking up a load in Decatur, IL, and WOW! Was the probulator busy at ADM.
Oh WOW!! That accelerator pump snapped back some memories!! My right foot jumped into sync with the sound. Even had the required wait while the fuel pump filled the carb bowl so further pumping actually put gas down the throat. Been there, done that. Had to back up to check for the arm strong manual air conditioning. LOVE those wing vents!! Twist em around and get a hurricane right on the parts that need it most!! LOL Hopefully, you did not catch and direct a bee into that area. Those vents also kept the byproducts of chili supper out of the cab too. Thanks for the memory jog Zack!! Looking forward to seeing that building take shape out there. Hope the crops are good this year too. Thanks for taking us all along.
Lots of farmers have those rock gardens with machinery out back behind the sheds. We usually call them "the backyard unwanted maybe used again machinery storage yard", but now we call call it "The Millennial Farmer Rock garden" in your honor. Much shorter name.
I love other peoples bone yards..
To help when you’re unhooking and reattaching hydraulic lines, we take cattle ear tags and zip ties and use them to mark where each hose goes. Works great for every piece of equipment. You’ll never go back, we haven’t!
At least 3 locals here in my neighborhood in NW Illinois have been in the corn this week. Some is testing 22%. It might be 2 weeks before I start running the grain cart for my neighbor.
Congrats on the new combine. Hope harvest goes well for you.
You can replace the o ring on a drain plug. 2 people, a shop vac, and a rag. Put the rag over the oil fill and hold the vac on it while the other person pulls the plug. Done it many times.
A Mag Drill would work perfect for drilling on that bucket
Zach, you don't have to wait to fix that oil plug seal. Put a vacuum (shop vac)on the oil filler neck and get someone to hold it and you can pull that drain plug out without losing all your oil, replace the seal and re-install the drain plug. It works amazing for any type of oil leak where you don't want to drain before repairing.
On your old Chevy truck, if you would put a 12 volt fuel pump on it, it will push fuel into the carb so it will start without cranking on it so much. Works wonders on mine, just turn the key and pump the pedal a few times and it will fire right up when I hit the starter
Hi Zack
My new shed looks the same as yours.
Hopefully we can get something to hang the lights and hinges on by February.
Keeping it between the rows has taken on a hole new meaning in the last 2 years.
And I thank to you and your family and father for entertaining and shearing your days with us.
I normally watch your at breakfast and then start my farming day
Grate motivation.
Regards from Tasmanian
they make a tool that you connect to air hose. you place it where u pour in your oil. it then creates a vacuum so you can remove drain plug and replace them without draining all your oil.
Happy Harvest Zac, Just finished cleaning out the combines for storage here. Peas, wheat and canola done. pretty rock and roll 3 months . Have to say, as my first year working at a farm... thanks for all you, Larsens , TonyFast and LegArms.. (I think he may have some actor as his brother)
But yeah, what has always been a passion for me worked out thanks to a good part of your video and created a unrealistic expectation from my boss because some how I knew more than i should. Once again thanks for the content, it does help to make a difference in peoples lives.
Have a Safe Harvest 😊
Thank You for sharing your family with us 😊
Chevy truck with a carb. Install an 84 corvette fuel filter in a loop of new fuel hose directly before the fuel pump.
Disconnect the fuel line to the carb at the pump. Use a piece of preflared tubing and more fuel hose into a gas can. Start the engine. The pump will now be pumping full pulses of filtered fuel. That is a 10 micron filter. Sediment in the fuel pump check valves allows fuel to drain back all the way to the tank causing extended cranking and hot vapor lock.
When you go to connect your Bucket to your Tractor, Crowd your loader Bucket attachment right down or Forward so its easier to see when picking up the bucket ,Then crowd up or back up gently and you can see if you have picked up both sides then it will lock in easy
12:00 a mag base drill would do wonders. Especially if you can get really low rpm. Then you can sit next to it with an arm laying on the spindle feed while the other lifts wobble pops.
Get a mag drill. One you can controll the speed.
Hey Zach on the hydraulic line on the planter
On hydro 1 zip tie them together about 18 20 inches to know witch pair go together. On one side of the pair put 1 zip tie on the right side hose.
Hose 2 do the same only use 2 on the right.
Hose 3 same only 3 on the right.
It gives you no thought just grab and hook up will save so much time and headaches
Just finished harvest down here in southern Saskatchewan very good harvest, hope ur harvest goes well Zach it sure looks nice.
Great video. Congratulations on the new to you combine. I enjoy watching you and your dad working together. I hope you have a safe harvest.
In our area of the center of Santa cruz Bolivia, Harvest is all done by now. Now everybody is waiting for the first days of november to plant soybeans for the summer
I love the starting procedure for your classic pickup. Pump, pump pump
That's how it is done. I've worn out a couple of legs starting old chevys in my day!
Definitely weld it. Nothing wrong with bolts it just looks half done.
You will really like the new becon style on that 780. We have them and they are way brighter and you can see them better from a distance. The cart operator will like them
DID I DO MY PART? I have signed up 12 new people. Mostly are guys I grew up with farming. Some still do. A neighbor that farms our place is really hooked. Row crop, peanut and cotton.
If you have a leaky drain plug, take your shop vac to suck through the oil filler neck with cap off of course and remove drain plug. It sucks through the drain plug hole and makes no mess. I have done it on x-15 Cummins more than once and many cars and trucks.
Zach, buy some multi colored hockey stick tape for those hydraulic lines. Match them up to the corresponding remote colors.
Great video, thank you. Thoughts and prayers to the Detwiler family. Andys passing on Wednesday morning was a terrible shock. Take care and keep it safe. God bless.
There's is a way to change the oil plug without draining the oil. Put a shop vac on the oil fill and quickly swap the plug out
That's a nice new combine. Maybe get colored heavy duty rubber bands to keep hoses that go together together
Different color zip ties to try to differentiate where hoses go? Maybe Mrs. MFer can loan you some nail polish to mark hoses and where they go. You can get electrical tape in a bunch of different colors. They have some fancy stuff that can be heat shrunk around cables/hoses so it lasts a bit longer. If I have to try to figure out what goes where without color coding, it just becomes a jumbled mess half the time.
if you put a shop vac on the fill tube of the engine you can swap out the drain plug and barely loose any oil...
At 6:30, you suggested that you could use the grain blower for front yard art …. along with a rock garden. I just happen to have rocks for sale, too. Special price on pick your own.
Get UV resistant color zip ties and put those on your hoses and matching one on the hydraulic fittings on the tractor.
Zach, we use colored zip ties for our hydraulic hoses. Two bands on pressure side and one on return.
The head didn't go in the new shed, it went in the big blue shed. Same shed most of my stuff goes in, and no wind is going to blow it away.
You should put those blocks under the planter the long way. So if you bump into it while hooking it up it doesn't roll off the blocks.
Wishing you a good harvest Zach and Johnson family.
remove oil cap, place shop vac over oil fill port and seal tight. remove drain plug and replace oring
If you put your planter blocks longways rather than side ways they are more secure. If the planter gets bumped or rolls those blocks will roll. If you put them long ways they will be more secure.
Teflon tape is at Cole's, toolbox, main shed, 2nd drawer down.
Shop vac on the filler neck you can pull the drain plug and change o-rings with very minimal loss
On that thing your going to weld to the bucket weld it inside the bucket so when your pulling with a chain and it breaks the bucket catches it instead of the tracktor or some one standing to close
In Alaska they grow flowers in the buckets of old gold dredges. Lol.
Make sure you get a 24hr warranty on the battery on the new s780.
Just a thought, you should look into the " myQ" it allows you to control your shop door from your phone, so if you aren't home you can open or close your doors
I like how Zach turned the lights in the shop on with his voice. I need some of those for my bedroom. Sometimes I forget to turn my lights off when I go to bed, and it's really annoying to have to get up and turn them off.
First world problems !!
Zach needs a magnetic drill. With the mag drill, punch where the holes need to be, locate the centering pin from the bit and let her eat.
Nothing wrong with having Jim weld, however one day, Jim won't be around and you'll need plan B.
Lots of uses for a magnetic drill both around the farm and on the race car.
Jim know how good a welder he is?. I love watching the interactions with you and your dad.
Don’t know if it’s been said but if you are like most of us, you have your phone with you all the time. Take a pic of your hose setup before you unhook it and make that pic one of your favorites so it’s easier to find. Next time you go to hook up your planter, pull up that pic and bam, you’re in business. Just a suggestion to help the head scratching! 🤣
If u hook a vacuum up to the oil fill on a motor and let it suck u can change a drain plug without it leaking
Zach, congrats on the new combine! I assume the adjustable feeder house is for a yet to arrive Honey Bee head? Two things, do you still have both the 8320RT and the 8360RT? Also we never got to see how well the OG Nate's yard turned out after the video with the Lawn Care Nut.
the 8360 is gone but we have the 8320. someday I'll show an update on the lawn! it took a lot of fertilizer but it looks great now
That green combine is looking sick!! What a beauty.
Have you thought about drilling a hole in the quick connect and putting a keeper pin through it so it won't slip back.
Bean harvest just started this week down here in NW Iowa
Get new drain plug w/oring. Remove old, immediate replace with new. Little to no oil loss.
Elements on water heaters also replace this way... no need to drain tank, just prepare, & be quick.
On another channel I think Sonne Farms, they got color wraps to go on each one of the hydraulic lines so it made it easier to hook back up.
I still remember the good old days when Zach had 630 thousand subscribers and now he is going to hit 1M I am so proud
Right around the first snow for those guys building your storage building
You guys could make good use of a mag drill basicly a portable drill press that uses a big magnet to attach it to whatever you need to drill into we use one at work for drilling thick steel works awesome
That 780 looks nice...I could use it here in Texas. More time to take breaks. Every year we seem to have less corn because cotton is less demanding of our irrigation systems. We have two trucks that take 40 minutes to make a round trip. or 3300 bu per hour. We make 15,000 lbs 16% corn for each acre, guess old will have to get the corn shelled for the trucks! Nice not to have the corn dried...dry does have some advantages.
Awesome video Zach. One upgrade to consider for the GM swuarebody is Holley Sniper EFI.
U can idk if u can on a tractor but on a car u can hook a shop vac up to the oil fill hole and pull the plug out and no oil will come out
Love watching you and your dad and family work together...
That was a number one hit in the 70’s U.K. charts for the Wurzels…I’ve got a brand new combine harvester and Farmer Bills Cow Man 😂
The lighting in shop is great. I hope that the new combine is all you need. Keep up the good work..
Use a shop vac to pull a vacuum in the engine and change the plug o eing
Right now your videos are the only thing keeping me on UA-cam. Not sure how much longer I can stick with it. Any chance you can publish on rumble?
Zach you need some outback wraps for those planter hydraulics makes everything so much easier
When you said Zack that's it's a little tough with one hand at near end of video I could not help but think about Harmless Farmer
Amazing what he accomplished in his position.
RIP Andy
And thank you for the updates Zack 👍
His name is Zach, not "Zack", you boneheaded.
very inspirational guy. sad deal.
Hi zac, great video as always, I notice Jim hasn't been around for a few videos, hope he is good and well. , Jason
Shop vac and rag jammed into oil fill neck u can remove pan plug and loose very little oil.
Zac for that drilling you can get a magnetic drill that clamps on that bucket and you can just turn it down into the steel, but welding is also and option
His name is Zach, not Zac.
🙄

Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide that can kill certain weeds and grasses. Glyphosate works by blocking an enzyme essential for plant growth. The product is used primarily in agriculture, but also in forestry and lawn and garden care.
