MacLaren Hall - The Sin of Being A Single Mother in Poverty (Episode 1)

MacLaren Hall Children's Center has been called "Los Angeles' Dirty Little Secret". Owned by the county, It once housed thousands of kids removed from their homes for various reasons and placed at what was to be a temporary facility until a suitable foster home became available.
Disproportionately, poor single mothers without the proper resources would lose their children to foster care. Many were victimized at the hands of those with a duty to protect them, resulting in lawsuits and the facility shut down.
On this episode I speak to Andrew Bridge. He is a Survivor of MacLaren Hall and the LA County foster care system, an Attorney, Author and Children's Advocate.

I was there. 1978. Anyone remember a song that was sung by kids there? Maybe it was just the group that I was in. I can't believe that I still remember it.

I got lucky to only be there for 2 days, luckily nothing ever happened to me BUT growing up in the foster care system I definitely saw allot.

I was there for 6 months and it was a night mare in late 80s and I never forgot how many bad dreams I wish my worst Enemy to be there
