  • In color, but has the familiar instrumental closing music from the syndicated "Underdog Show" (taken from the 1960s repackage series "Cartoon Cut-Ups") rather than the original Underdog closing music.

This is actually the closing credits that appeared when the series was repeated on CBS on Sunday mornings in the fall of 1967 [note the brief copyright notice at the very end]. In the "CARTOON CUT-UPS" (and later syndicated editions of "UNDERDOG") version, the voice credits from "TENNESSEE TUXEDO" appeared instead at :19, with Tennessee and Chumley's "Don't Miss Our Next Show" banner at the end...

They also did the same for the closing to “Tennessee Tuxedo And His Tales” with Tennessee and Chumley with a banner which was nice. That was in syndication if you watch the closing on “Siresounds” YT channel.

I always loved the fact that the music producer pushed the knobs WAY up for the out-going music's "master". Great playing and production for a cartoon. Talk about a blast from the past! That music takes me right back. Thanks for posting.

First time seeing this today. The "Post No Bills" ending makes more sense than the Tennessee and Chumley ending that I always saw. From childhood up to now, I've always wondered what the Cop was pointing at to make that Guy look so Shocked!! I Get It Now!!! 😁

This is also the version NBC used when it briefly aired the Underdog show in its original "all four parts of the story in one episode" format in the mid-1970s. I think it was also the first time they removed all scenes of Underdog swallowing his super energy pill.

Fond memories of my childhood. I would watch while my mother did housework. I never missed an episode.

I hate the new DVDs because they DO NOT include the cool syndicated closing with the music and painter. That closing just caps the show off just right and it is missing in action on the DVDs

To Andrew X: Nope, Ben Stone and Ben Stern were two different people. (Also not to be confused with Ben Stein...) To wileyk209zback and Barry Grauman: This is the picture track from the original network run of Underdog; but the sound track from the syndicated version that combined it with Tennessee Tuxedo. The original theme was an all-brass instrumental version of the "speed of lightning, roar of thunder" Underdog theme song.

Interesting. I first heard this when I was in third grade, 1967-68. We had it on TV as I was getting ready for school in Columbus, Ohio. It would end, then I would walk to school. Then 13 years later, I was a senior in college, I was in my first off-campus apartment, and it was on again, and I watched it again, then it would end, and I would walk to school. Ironic.

I remember one version like this one except with a brief appearance of Tennessee Tuxedo and Chumley at the end.

Does anybody know if ''Ben Stone'' (listed in the voice credits) is actually Ben Stern, Howard's dad? He did run a recording studio in NYC after all.
