The Beverly Hillbillies Opening and Closing Theme 1962 - 1971 HD

- The Beverly Hillbillies is an American situation comedy originally broadcast for nine seasons on CBS from 1962 to 1971, starring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer, Jr. The series is about a poor backwoods family transplanted to Beverly Hills, California, after striking oil on their land.
A Filmways production created by writer Paul Henning, it is the first in a genre of "fish out of water" themed television shows, and was followed by other Henning-inspired country-cousin series on CBS. In 1963, Henning introduced Petticoat Junction, and in 1965 he reversed the rags to riches model for Green Acres.
The show paved the way for later culture-conflict programs such as McCloud, The Nanny, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Doc. Panned by many entertainment critics of its time, it quickly became a huge ratings success for most of its nine-year run on CBS.
The Beverly Hillbillies ranked among the top twenty most watched programs on television for eight of its nine seasons, twice ranking as the number one series of the year, with a number of episodes that remain among the most watched television episodes of all time. - Розваги
Fun Fact: The opening credit scenes where Jed discovers oil/ his family’s cabin was filmed at Franklin Canyon Reservoir…in Beverly Hills.
That's probably due to the 30 mile zone (aka the TMZ) the unions said if you film on location within a 30mi radius of a particular Hollywood intersection you pay the crew standard wages. If you film outside the radius (e.g in Texas :) ) you have to pay travel, accommodation allowances etc.
There definitely used to be one or two rabbits in the scene where Jed's shot strikes oil. He missed the clearly visible rabbit[s] in the course of striking oil. The rabbit[s] have long since been deleted.
That fact was not very fun...not fun at all
@@drunkin12Many Not even remotely fun
Far from it
@@JohnSmith-su3ze Why?
Earl Scruggs' banjo picking on this is exactly why I learned play the instrument in the first place...the thrilling ringing tone he gets out of that old Gibson Mastertone is something to truly behold!!! It's no mystery why Earl was and continues to be a major 5 string banjo influence!
Thanks Grandma for showing me this show 10 years ago.
Listening to the theme song still makes me feel happy.
Happy childhood. Innocent times.
This was a fun silly show with just enough heart to allow you to care about the characters and the ridiculous situations they got into, and some fine music to boot
Very entertaining.
and no agenda politics
Ha ha I LOVE the way Ellie May says at the end "This has been a Filmways presentation!"
Definitely!!!
I remember watching this show on television.
I used to watch re-runs of this show with my grandma. She watched this show when she came to America from Norway and she said it helped her learn English.
It was a massive hit here in Northern Ireland too, but we had to wait till 1969 before we got a TV to watch it, but it ran over and over again!
@Benj Smith Productions good
Irene Ryan must have been of part Irish extraction.
No TV in Ireland until 1969?
@@manfrummt He's clearly talking about his family.
We had a TV in the glens of Antrim in 61 why did you have to wait so long?
When i was a kid I had never heard anything as amazing as this wonderful driving banjo rhythm. I would lay awake after the end of the show Sunday nights listening to it over and over again in my mind. And it's still one of the most satisfying and finest pieces of music I have ever head even for my whole life!
I'm pretty sure that you could het a Flatt and Scruggs record and hear it over and over if you wanted to. I wore out "The Ballad Of Thunder Road" doing that when I was a young child. "Let me tell the story, I can tell it all....."
One of the most iconic TV theme songs of all time!!
I miss the light hearted silliness that television brought into our homes and softened our world. I really believe too much stone cold reality is a headstone for the soul. ✌❤😊
Agreed!
I loved that banjo tune with Lester Flats and Earl Scruggs. My inspiration for taken up the banjo.

Woo-doogie!! I just love this show!! Yee-haw!!
Only Seinfeld comes close.
God that transition from the opening to closing was super smooth
nice
It was smooth, but with editing software today it's trivial to edit that smooth.
The Beverly Hillbillies. Brilliant programme back in the 60s brings back so meny memories . 🌹
Probably the most iconic theme song in television history. (When I was growing up--EVERYBODY knew the lyrics to this tune--even if they never watched the show LOL!!)
The theme even made #44 on the pop charts. And on top ot that, it even reached the charts of WLS, one of the premier rockers! Flatt & Scruggs ' version, not this one.
Definitely a classic voice. So many doors for him
My favorite TV Show..We don't get such shows this days😍
This show sucked big time
Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed. A poor mountaineer who barely kept his family fed. Then one day, he was shootin' at some food when up from the ground came a bubbling crude..Oil that is. Black gold. Texas tea. Well, the next thing you know old Jed's a millionaire! The kin folk said.."Jed, move away from here!" They said, "Califori is the place you ought to be!" So they loaded up their truck and they moved to Beverly...Hills that is, swimming pools, movie stars! THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES! ✌❤😊
Not gonna lie, for years I’ve been singing the theme as “Oil that is. Texas tea, black gold.”
It wasn’t until recently that my family corrected my error. Well, that’s my Mandela Effect...
God this takes me back to my teenage years ..loved this program 👍💯
I have always wondered why the kin folk were so eager to get rid of them.
Never knew the real lyrics but have never forgotton the rude version that us kids used to sing in the playground at Primary school 50 years ago ............Sung it yesterday at home, my wife was quite shocked !!
@@monkeyboy4746 So they could go visit California ..
this show reminds me of my grandparents

This is my dad's favorite show and we have never watched an episode together. I didn't like it as a kid but do as an adult. Watched the entire run. Nobody else I know has seen it but him and he doesn't want to talk about it.
Extremely funny show - absolutely loved it; not to mention the fabulous soundtrack by Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt
"Who" did not Love those Hillbillies back then? Gawd I had a crush on Ellie Mae❤️❤️❤️
One night, my little ones asked for a bedtime story. For whatever reason, my mind kind of drew a blank and the opening theme to The Beverly Hillbillies came to mind. So I told them to "listen to a story of a man named Jed ... " They didn't know any better and kids love practically any bedtime story.

Schitt's Creek is the opposite of this show! Lol
The only reason I looked this up and am here watching this, is because it randomly came to mind and has been in my head for the past few hours. WTF 🤷🏾♂️
This show sure did have good humor to it. I always admired how nice Donna Douglas looked during her portrayal as Ellie May.
We can be grateful for television programs like this that preserve an accurate depiction of American country folk in the 1960s. Without these images, goodness knows what manner of misconceptions and outright falsehoods might take root in our minds when we think of people from that time and place.

An incredible and original concept for a TV show.

A masterfully done intro displaying the collision of two worlds. Classic.

Our family nickname was the Clampetts. My Pop called his mother "Granny Clampett."
I will bet you the actors in this show never imagined it being watched 60 years later
You might be right. considering that if you go back another 60 years to the turn of the century, the movies there have largely been lost to time in part or in whole. I imagine even then, before streaming services or even home video, which had its' advent during this shows' run, the Clampetts had probably never seen a movie that was 60 years old.
Enjoyed watching it when i was growing up in the 60s. All are dead except Max Baer,Jr.

Ye know, I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the Beverly Hillbillies. In some ways, it portrays us hill folk as backwards and stereotyped, but in others it portrays our simple wisdom as a remedy to the ills of the modern industrial society.
It’s likely the most charitable portrayal of us in media that I’ve seen, honestly. But still, seein a lot of the portrayals of my people not knowin much about the modern world around em and bein ignorant does rub me the wrong way.
Now don’t get me wrong. At the end of the day, it’s a very entertainin show and I can watch for hours. I don’t get all riled up over it. This is just thinkin about things. This comments more for younger hillbillies on the internet I reckon. I spent a long long time bein real ashamed of who I was because of my schoolin and bein showed stereotypes of us in media.
To y’all young mountaineers: ye ain’t gotta be ashamed of who ye are. We got a proud, thrivin hist’ry that runs back to Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Britain, Denmark, and the Scandinavian countries. Our culture n accent is a hallmark of our ancestors and a living testament to whose who came before. Of course we all have things to learn, and some things are best discarded (homophobia, racism, etc), but our accent, values, kinship, and honor should be cherished.
I beg you young uns:
Don’t let our flame die out.
I always thought they did not look inbred enough to be true hill-billies, just saying.
First time I saw The Beverly Hillbillies was on MeTV and I love it.
I never met a hillbilly, but growing up and watching the Beverly Hillbillies, I learned that the hillbilllys were the honest, solid people, and the rich people around them were the crazy ones. Hillbiilles are part of American Culture. :)
I'm a hillbilly and proud. Words like homophobia and racism are just words used as weapons to attack us, shame on you for repeating the attacks of our Communist enemy that seeks to eradicate us.
I'm tired of the Commie hate directed toward ordinary working people. We are the backbone that built this country and made it what it is today. Mass murdering Communists are leeches and parasites who seek to steal the fruits of ordinary working peoples hard work.
Hillbillies deserve total respect in this country for all hard work and sacrifices we made to build this country.
One important thing to note is this was supposed to be hillbillies from decades ago also. Most of them likely weren’t nearly as educated as one would be today just considering how easily accessed information is now
Jed's like, "what in the FUCK, IS THAT OIL??"
that's awesome!!
I remember seeing every single episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" starring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas and Max Baer very much when I was much younger and boy did I enjoy watching it very much.

This was one of the funniest shows ever and the 1994 remake one of the funniest films ever.
What? 🤔
Love This song and show one of the best
Buddy Ebsen was originally going to play The Tin Man in The Wizard Of Oz.
That is true. He had to quit because the silver paint used on him made him allergic, and he ended up in hospital and almost died.
This show was before my time but I love the banjo in the theme
Billy Connolly first picked up a banjo at the age of 21 because of this theme tune (just listened to him saying this on an BBC4 interview from 1977 called Desert Island Discs thats on Spotify).
After a few years, he formed a small bluegrass/folk duo called the Humblebums, where he would tell occassional jokes inbetween songs, and then eventually became a full stand-up comedian.
Go listen to him play banjo on their cover of Cripple Creek!
I've always wondered which came first, the title or the concept! As of April 2024 season 1 is screening weekly in the UK on the Talking Pictures TV channel.
Damn they’ve been airing it in America (makes sense haha) since before I could remember in 97 haha such an iconic show here

The Beverly Hillbillies was the last time television realistically portrayed average, normal Americans.
Somewhere, locked away in a vault, is the complete opening with Kellogg's Corn Flakes written into the theme song. Perhaps one day, we'll be able to see it again. (Jed is pointing at a billboard ad for the cereal!)
