- I was so impressed with the concept of Legion! A movie about Angels coming down and following Gods orders to exterminate mankind. And a lone Angel standing up to God saying this is not the way, this wasn't the way you taught us to be like. And going against Gods orders. It really made me think deeply about how we must always look for the good in the world even when its is bleak and if we cant find the good we must be the good.

Fun Fact for you: Michael's tattoos are actually a terrifying inscripton. The most prominent one that you see on his chest actually reads as "For indeed the Hand of the Lord was against them to destroy them from among the host until they were consumed." When you know the details put into a movie it can really make a difference especially in this one too. Small bonus, there's a series based on this movie called Dominion that was on SyFy a few years back.

Yeah it really is a well made movie, a little bit over the top and oddly specific on certain issues (to send some sort of moral message about kids for example, maybe ?) but amazing nonetheless still
It was a weird couple of films for Paul Bettany. Here he plays Michael, in the Da Vinci Code he plays a villainous priest, and in Priest, he plays a vampire hunting priest.
The Ice Cream Man was excellent actor Doug Jones. You've seen him before but he's almost always in very heavy fx make-up. He was the fish creature in The Shape of Water, he was Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies, he was Pan in Pan's Labyrinth, he was the Silver Surfer (body, not the voice) in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. And (ahem) he was Dr. Vataber in my award winning zombie short film, Universal Dead.
I believe, I am more familiar with him from his work on Buffy

Seriously though, the angel subgenre of fiction is one of my favorite niches. For more - The Prophecy (with Christopher Walken), Constantine (with Keanu Reeves), City Of Angels (Nic Cage & Meg Ryan, based off a German movie called Wings of Desire), and Michael (with John Travolta).
"I said your fucking baby gonna burn" Before that movie twins kids in hallways scared me after that movie, i grew up thinking old ladies with huge smiles are always up to something.

I grew up Catholic, but my parents weren't so strict on the matter. And I was always questioning things about it, as I got older I found myself to be more agnostic because I learned so much more on my own than what the church was teaching.

You may be interested in checking out the follow up tv show Dominion. It picks up a few years after the movie. Only two seasons but it was a fun distraction.

Ya i saw this in theaters, always loved this movie, one of those bangers that never got that popular. It is a great movie with an amazing message in the end, never lose faith even when all hope is lost.

Theologically, and spiritually, a very deep message here. Without getting into a controversial discussion of eschatology, I must say that this story poses some very interesting questions.

Since Prophecy, with Christopher Walken, there has been a persistent trope of jealous angels not being nice and an absentee God. I want to see good angels again. I think one of the better overlooked angel movies was The Adjustment Bureau. Great movie.
I prefer this movies version of God and Angels, it portrays the nature of the Abrahamic God accurately, he brings destruction and his wrath upon humanity just like in the old testament, but there is also understanding and mercy like in the new testament. The angels obey him as their supreme creator however it still shows they have free will and question God which I suppose God is ok with since he would've foreseen such a thing and therefore would've orchestrated the whole thing from the start

@@StrangerOnTheWeb But angels also appear in the Bible saying, "Fear Not." Angels would appear at the water, disturb it, and heal random people. Angels destroyed oppressors and their hordes, not innocents in the Bible. There is nothing in the bible that says how they FELT about humans. What I don't like is how they portray them as being jealous of us. That is all Hollywood.
@@Sentinel3D Their jealousy stems from the fact that God loved humanity but we threw that love away, if angels had freewill it's understandable why they would despise us as the creator favoured us beings that don't deserve it. Besides in this film only Gabriel shows any sort of hate I think the majority of angels were just following orders

In all these stories, the angels are doing precisely what God DOESN'T want. Take Constantine. Gabriel loses her wings and becomes human because she hates humans so much. It wasn't what God wanted. Angels have free will. One third of them fell from heaven. The notion that they don't have free will is something WE say, like the notion that we are" a little lower than the angels." The Bible doesn't say that we are a little lower than the angels. It says that JESUS was reduced to a little lower than the angels. I don't see a reason for angels to be jealous. I'd switch places.
There are things we don't know that were never addressed in scripture, but other stories and movies have ingrained into our culture.
What I'm pointing out is that this is new lore about angels from Hollywood, just like playing harps in heaven comes from 40s cartoons. Just like there are no voodoo dolls in Voodoo. Hollywood invented Voodoo dolls.

Even though I have the feeling that we're dehumanizing ourselves more and more. But what interested me is your reaction, it's wonderful to discover a young charismatic person who sees the important things in the right way. Your reaction speaks to me from the heart. There is something else I want to tell you, when I heard what you were saying, it reminded me a lot of a Norwegian artist named Aurora Asknes, she is so sensitive to everything that is unfair, that drags people down..... Maybe you know her music and then you know what I'm talking about, if not I would definitely recommend you to listen to her because her voice is unique and her lyrics are brilliant. I watched this movie on DVD when I was a kid, so much so that when a T.V series following the baby as a grown up came to be I was invested, I myself am a former lutheran turned satanist but, we don't neglect to know about other beliefs or care to argue as we see it as pointless.
Be it believer, biblical figure, angel, human or even demon. Anyone can be good or bad, anyone can do great harm or help. And this movie taught me that along with other things I hold onto still. Thank you for reacting to this, it was fun to watch my favorite movie.

I was so confused my first time watching this.
the thing with the flood is that the people got killed are Children of the fallen angels or humans who engage with the fallen. It's not about losing salvation, plus jesus wasn't born yet.
I far prefer The Prophecy (1995) over this movie. IMO,, it has a cooler premise, and it stars Christopher Walken as the Archangel Gabriel, and Viggo Mortensen in a scene-stealing performance as Lucifer. Lots of cheesy fun.
More action/adventure, but if u check out pitch black... even if only on ur own. I'd be curious of ur reaction. I see you look for the deeper story , especially in some characters . So if nothing else. Watch and send me a comment. I'd appreciate it if u can.

This movie has about eight layers of cheese on it, and it's steeped in pseudo-Judeo-Christian gobbledygook, but I kind of love it. That, and you can never have enough Paul Bettany.
I hope that I can get to that place of letting go someday. I grew up with a very religious mother and realized that I still have a lot of resentment towards that. It's always funny when I find myself getting irrationally angry at people who are Christians, god and religious stuff. I really have to talk to myself that it just isn't okay, and it's coming from a place inside me.
I don't even know how to say I believe in God. I still haven't let go enough but I do believe in some higher power I just prefer to use the term universe.

This film has always been one of my favorites as far as religious based movies go and another one that's been at the top of my list would be the film "The Prophecy" starring Christopher Walken and Elias Koteas. These days I can't help but to reflect on the words of Percy's character in this film " I knew this day was coming but I didn't think I'd be around to see it" because as of present it just seems like the world has completely lost it's mind with everything that is going on as of late; I mean people can't even come to an agreement or understanding on the basic concept of what constitutes as a woman anymore.
I was raised as a Methodist, but it wasn't strick. I still left organized religion.
Yeshua is the actual name of Christ, not the name "Jesus". Micheal is the head of angels and is not the same as Christ(the Messiah) who is the head of all angels and the right hand of God himself. Love your channel and your thoughts about Christianity. Blessing to you my beautiful sister.

I think i had a similar upbringing and current beliefs as you (loosely). I grew up going to Lutheran schools all the way through HS, but now I no longer identify as being religious. I haven't lost my faith and still believe in God, but I have seen so many flaws in religions that I know they were not created by God. Religions are the creation of men, attempting to manipulate the faith of others. I will never condemn someone for following a religion as long as they don't hurt others, but if you actually think an omnipotent being gives a shit if you eat bacon, you are delusional.

I think this is basically a Seventh Day Adventist and Jehovas Witness belief, I grew up seventh Day adventist. I think this seems to be controversial in the Christian realm for some reason. I believe Michael was Jesus before he went down to earth as a man. And then his name changed to Jesus. So there is a correlation to that in this movie. When Gabriel kills Michael he says you wanted to live as a man so now you die as a man (sort of like Jesus coming to Earth as a human and then dying on the cross) And then he is resurrected just like Michael in this movie and says that he gave God what he needed. Anyways there doesn't need to be definitive proof for me on this matter I just see the parallels

I tend to be on the skeptical side when it comes to the existence of God or Lucifer. I may have not had a strict Christian upbringing, but many in my family believe in Christianity as if it's more important than their own lives, especially my dad. Religion in general to me is outdated and pointless to have in our daily lives. It's more of a want than it's a need.

This movie sucks lol. Still I have a fun story about it. I was waiting in line at the theatre to see something else and an old lady behind me tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was going to see Legion. I chuckled and said "No way. It looks awful!" She got extremely offended and gasped, then said "THAT is the ARCH...ANGEL...MICHAEL!!!" So I shrugged and told her, "Yeah but he's carrying and uzi and a bowie knife. I don't think this is going to be the pious reflection on faith that you're expecting. I give it ten minutes before you walk out in disgust." She gave me a look like I'd just punched a kitten in the face, shook her head and left the situation alone. I guarantee she walked out. Being an atheist in a theistic world is endless entertainment.
The Arc Angel Michael is not Jesus Christ.
In the Bible Yahweh sent archangels to wipe out cultures. Michael did some himself. So the "lord" losing faith in humanity and wanting to start over isn't... In my experience as a spiritualist who has helped folks with possessions, and spiritual afflictions. Have convened with some of these beings as well. This movie isn't a far par off. The most unrealistic thing to me is Michael turning his back on the other angels and Yahweh to protect us. He is the loyal son. I could see some of the other archangels possibly maybe under great circumstances turning. But Michael, the general? The most loyal son, feels like a stretch to me. also in illiteration micha means "communication with gods." Micha was the stone used to meditate with to commune with god or the gods/angels. Every ending of angelic name that is El. Micha El Rapha El Gabri El. Sama El. El means in god. So micha El translates to "he who speaks for God or the face of God."
From what I take away from the Bible is that god is just like any other masculine father figure that loves his children THE ISRAELITES but also punishes them for their disobedience. He does not love all his creations as written in scripture Romans 9:13. Christians and all other false religions are withholding who and how god really is and who Christ is actually coming back to save and destroy.

I believe that there is a God. We may not know the true nature or intentions of God, but we do have one.
Our universe and reality itself wasn't spawned out of happenstance. A higher creator molded it.
Just because we can't fathom the complex mathematics and science that lays the foundation for everything's existence doesn't mean that everything can't be explained mathematically and scientifically. That's the whole point of science.
That some mighty deity created everything is an utterly ridiculous sentiment, not to mention dangerous. The belief systems that go with believing in mighty deities have been the root of all evil in the known societies of humans for a very long time.

Belief sedates people, and makes them forget the immediate suffering of this world. By proclaiming your belief in a deity, you must realise that these are the shoulders of lies and deceit you stand on. The fact that people like you still exist in this modern day and age is alarming.

If you listened to my conversation in the end I express how much suffering there is on this planet and it pains me especially when there are so many who just do not care. But telling someone that their belief in a higher power is alarming also raises my alarm bells. Also Science and God can be true at the same time!

People might find comfort in religion on a personal level and therein lies the point; finding comfort via a belief system takes away from fighting for what's right and just in the real world. The Bible, the Quran etc are works of fiction created to tell people how to act and behave.
A belief in a deity is based on a fictitious narrative.
And factual science is based on systemized knowledge.
These two can't coexist in the right mind. That's a scientific fact. Believing that they can coexist is a fictitious narrative exactly like religion. And in this modern day and age all religion should be frowned upon and stigmatized.

God is infallible. I grew up as a Christian since I was a babe in the nursery and Sunday school. My dad says I'm not a Christian cuz i party and one time I claimed not to be. Tho, these days I'm grateful for getting into conspiracy theories to truly realize evil does exist. I'm what I am. Cogito ergo sum. Peoples own opinions are just that.
