    I am their target audience. I've been playing Bethesda games since the early 2000s. I love their games and the people making them. I also love No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous. And Starfield is STILL, somehow, the most 5/10 game I've played in the last decade. They essentially put Fallout 76 post Wastelanders update in space but forgot that they had, once again, left most of the stories in notes, computers and voice memos. All the action is in a couple hub cities and the other 90% of the game takes place on empty, soulless copy-pasted procedurally generated tiles. Is it typical of Bethesda? Yes. But that's not a good thing. There is no excuse for a multi-billionaire dollar company to put out a game of this quality.

      Exactly... It's not like Starfield is some terrible affront to gaming, it's just... another Bethesda release? Idk how to put it, but Elder Scrolls and Fallout always felt different even if the bones were the exact same, but Starfield just feels like base-level Bethesda writing before they colored it to the setting and plot.
      I feel like they finished the game itself, but then forgot to make it a lived-in world and actually flesh it out.

      It’s sold so well for a reason, and a lot of people are console-warring over the game, so not all criticism or praise is going to be valid, but it’s just the pattern of Bethesda to release good, but unfinished games that the community has to finish for them.

      On top of which they're flat black loading screens or the fallout 76 camera roll.. like spinning props skyrim style isnt great either.
      But there are better options. Hell they could use the little takeoff and landing cutscenes as loading screens and it would work perfectly.
      Most space games do this, give us a loading screen that looks like you're doing something. Hell mass effect did it with airlocks and elevators. No mans sky does ot with literal warp tunnel effects other games use shuttles descending into atmosphere. These are not new ideas

      @dwarfminerwillie Рік тому +10

      There is no way they bought bethesda just for starfield, the record breaking studio that made skyrim and fallout no way, this doesn't look good of course but the real deal is if TES:6 comes out and isn't received any better THEN we got a problem.

    • @Whazzupie
      @Whazzupie Рік тому +8

      No, they bought Bethesda because they wanted to own their well-known and received past and future franchises, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and now Starfield. Along with the acknowledgement that no matter the perceived quality, Starfield (that even as a new IP) will be a top-seller regardless, based on renown alone because it was developed by Bethesda, which is another problem with AAA developer complacency, really.
      Starfield just happened to be the game they've been developing during the buy-out, you have to think of this fiscally like how a corporate conglomerate would see it. It was high gain and low risk, because of the correct assumption people are anticipating Starfield, and a sizeable projection of consumers and Bethesda die-hards would purchase it anyway. So it was mostly pro and little con, and if they actually feel like it, Microsoft can inject it's own resources if they feel the product isn't up to par. Which *really* means they're just taking the brunt of the middling reviews right now and gauging reactions for future endeavors, if this is what they took over and allowed to be released lol

Which means that if they actually simulated the vacuum of space correctly (no air resistance to slow your ship after boosting), you could do that without the need for a bug or loading screens. And then they could have actual random events instead of making you investigate map markers

    Since it came up in the vid, Cyberpunk for me was main reason why SnoreField felt to lifeless, boring and empty. Most basic combat of just shooting a bullet sponges, lifeless NPCs, exploring bloody empty planets (oh they are not completely early, there are rocks to look at and 3 same pirate/space bases you clean agian and again). Sure it has the spaceship but all you have for that is just your run of a mill space combat.
    Meanwhile Cyberpunk, just one walk trough the streets and it is a living (or rather really good illusion of one), combat is fluid and you have several ways of approaching it, dialog is interesting, just the fact they animated most quest where you and other npc are talking was amazing and great for immersion.
    Oh and modders made flying cars in Cyberpunk so the an extent you even have that over Snorefield.

    I really wish that people didn't only see the pronoun bit of heals versus baby faces ran..... That was like a 5 second blurb of a several minute rant of the things that he found wrong with Starfield. And all of his criticisms are the same criticisms that everyone else has. And his biggest issue with the pronouns was the fact you had to choose pronounce and yet in the actual game itself it had no bearing on anything whatsoever and there's only one singular transcharacter that's not even technically trans because she is a clone of a man but is biologically female which makes her just female. And people seem really forget how cloning works cloning is not likely to satisfy does it wears an exact copy the clone in sarfield would be genetically the child of the man that she was cloned after. That was his issue the false of virtue signal if it was actually a part of the game he wouldn't have flipped out about it like that.

      From what I've heard, even from the beginning, the story, and characters of Cyberpunk were great from the beginning, plus, they've constantly updated, and fixed the game since it came out, much in the same way Hello games updated, and fixed No Mans Sky, and Cyberpunk is now in a stable, completely playable state. From everything I've heard, Starfield is the very definition of mid. Which for a game that was being touted as the greatest game within the last 10 years, is not a good thing. Everyone either hates it, or is arguably overly defending it saying it's "okay that it's mid, not every game needs to be a masterpiece.' except, the problem with that is that you were the exact same people who were saying it was going to be the game of the year. It seems like a lot of people are coping, and trying to say it's better then even they believe it is.

  • @Mordy.

    It seems the game has low quality generic NPCs to fill in the cities and those are the one with the weird eyes/stares. The "normal" NPCs look much better but I'm not sure why they left those models of such low quality for them. Though the point was to make the towns feel more lived in so there's a lot of them.
    Don't get too close to them and the illusion will hold, I guess?
    As I'm playing through the game though, I really don't notice all those things put forward by critics. It's a pretty minor part of the experience but it's put forward a lot because drama brings views I guess.
    As for bugs, the game isn't bug free but it's actually really good. Like Cyberpunk at release was REALLY REALLY worse by far. This is easily the least bugged Bethesda game ever. The bugs present are pretty minor and not blocking the gameplay much.
    As for the story, the main story is, well so far it's serviceable at best. The main side stories I've been trying are really good though. This is pretty standard Bethesda there. Main story is more an excuse to get the player to experience the game anyway.

    Unfortunately Bethesda seems to be similar to Nintendo. They suffer from “Get with the times” issues but Bethesda just outright refuses to do so, where Nintendo may trip or stumble but they will adjust and adapt as needed. There is only so far a software system can go and eventually, if you don’t adjust with modern technology, you will be left in the dust and forgotten about.

    Starfield is basically what Fallout would be if it came out today. The only difference that there is more planets to visit over the wasteland. I think you could say the same with the Elder Scrolls series. So my take is that, yes this is a bad standard, but it is not something we didn’t expect to happen after how much Bethesda lies. I don’t believe you can even compare this to No Man’s Sky either since the gameplay loop is different to Starfield, but you can definitely compare the space exploration which is definitely sad to see. Still I don’t believe that No Man’s Sky should be held to a good standard as well for the industry since it encourages for publishers to make bad games then fix them which is what games are doing now. Anyhow...
    Overall review: Game is 3/5 since again it is just their other games. You get a boring opening until you get the world open up to you. Then you either continue to do the main quests, or you visit other places for the fun of it.

    I mean the biggest problem is Bethesda refuses to move away from the Creation Engine, which is 12 years old at this point, which was honestly just a mid engine in the first place. Bethesda for the last 7-10 years has pretty much been counting on the modder communities to make their games for them, so they're perfectly satisfied with launching completely mid-tier at best games and calling them (and pricing them) as AAA. The one saving grace for them before was a really compelling story that allowed players to overlook the graphics and bugs, but that's been put by the wayside a while ago. Bethesda has now basically become a joke/meme company.

    I don't think any NPC rides a motorcycle in cyberpunk, that's not game feature? Not flying to planets is a decision, saves up resources. But the eyes, total lack of reaction to gunfire, early (year 1) cyberpunk NPC doing the exact same animation at the exact same time wasn't a great reaction either, also when you turned around they had vanished from a totally open huge area.
    My point is, both these games promised huge and delivered ass. Both are great fun but get ruined frequently by lazy code or tech missing.

    The RPG systems in starfield in my opinion better than fallout 4, and skyrim. The are about on par with oblivion in detail and choices. And in my opinion starfield does many things better than any other of bethesdas RPG''s. The dialogue and persuasion system is probably the best. Or at least on par with oblivion and morrowind. The gun play and gamplay in general is better than any of theor previous titles in terms of fluidity. The lockpicking system in particular i think is perfection. The space combat is also better than most of its competition, especially No Man's Sky. The writing in particular for the hand crafted quests are some of the best bethesda has ever done. In my opinion leagues better than Skyrim, Fallout 3 or 4, and even morrowind and oblivion. I'd argue that it rivals even the writing genius of New Vegas. The interior environments, are honestly jawdroppingly good. And some of the lanscapes in starfield nearly look photo realistic. The facial animations are slightly better than previous games, but still have that jank at many times. Not so much with more important questline characters. But random NPC's do look like fallout 4. And for me, the worst aspect of this game is the UI, it feels very rushed and was made to simply function on a basic level. It's defenitly no morrowind levels of bad, but it does drag down the experience at times. But for me, starfield is rhe return to form bethesda desperately needed. And I'm loving the game from the bottom of my heart.

      @@bickboose9364 I'm playing through the Crismson Fleet Questline while a friend is doing the Ryuigen Questline. Both quests could be games on their own. They are probably better than any of Bethesda's previous faction quests (outside of New Vegas, which was made by Obsidian). The main quest isn't mindblowing but it is the best Bethesda has ever done. People who say that the writing in Starfield is anything less than mid is either A. disingenuous or B. they have yet to play any of the quests. I never said it was better than NV, but the writing is definitely one of if not the best, part of the game for me.

    Oi that guy in your chat saying ME:A was the worst game ever made. How dare. It had a lot great about it, the two issues being one minor being that human faces could be pretty weird from time to time. Second the big one is the story was lacking most of the time, it had it's moments and a good over all idea. It was just done poorly and the main villain was super forgettable. But the environments, character interactions, combat, all of that was top notch. Even though I hated Liam with a passion, but there is always that one character in ME games I hate.
