      The EJ22 is a rock solid motor, not powerful enough to hurt itself, but not so weak it can't be fun. (Like the boat anchor that was the EJ18.) Just change the valve cover gaskets and rear main seal if you've got ot out for the swap, I guarantee those will be hard as rocks and leaking by now. But when the newest EJ22 is going on a quarter century old and the oldest is over 35, you can't really complain about those seals being old.

    • @felixchaus
      @felixchaus 2 місяці тому

      There are fans that will work bothways depending on the wiring.
      And there is fans to be mounted in front or in back of the radiator. So with the fan it's just finding corret direction of the air flow.
      Or like some offroaders have their fans wired so they blow while offroading and suck on the road.

    We had the 2.5 it was a nightmare for 4 years. Four different mechanics$$$.
    Beware many of those mechanics that say they know all about Subarus they don't know anything.
    If you're having problems with your vehicle overheating I solved that problem by drilling a quarter inch hole through the thermostat. That allowed air bubbles to freely go through and not interfere with the water pump flow. According to a article release about Subarus investigation it was determined that many Subarus had a overheating problem after the first coolant change due to the air bubbles to get trapped inside the top of the engine. Apparently they worked themselves down by the water pump and interfere.
    4 years of nightmare that's all I can tell you. My son bought a Dodge caravan and it ran for 6 years with hardly any problems at all in the engine and transmission were perfect.
    That was the 3.3 engine the same as the 3.8 engine but Chrysler idiots sold out to a scam company in Europe and they no longer make those two engines and they stop making the 40 inline 6-cylinder that they used to put in the Jeeps. So now what do poor people buy? Every year there's less options.

    • @musewolfman
      @musewolfman 3 місяці тому

      The air bubble thing was more of a problem on the EZ series 6-cylinder cars. An EJ is pretty easy to bleed the coolant system on. The EZ is a nightmare.
      Also, the 4.0l went away because it was ancient technology and couldn't be made to meet modern emissions standards, not because of any scam. It's a great motor, don't get me wrong, but it's jut not able to meet modern requirements.

    Four things from working with Subarus on a weekly basis.
    1) piston slap issues due to crappy engine design. (Every boxer has this issue)
    2) bottom end oiling issues. All Subarus prove me wrong
    3) all the boxers have head gasket issue even the new generation.
    4) probably one of the worst hp output motors for its size.

      1) don’t buy a modified one unless you know what you’re getting into
      2) if you care about reliability without caring about maintenance don’t get one
      3) do the research! avoid problem years know what too look out for when buying one and follow point 1: you bought a 2011 wrx with 190ks and 6k of mods I all done by some teenage dirtbag in his parents garage, and you’re surprised it broke?
      4) a lot of the people who trash on them never have owned one! Being into my 9th Subaru and 4th Mitsubishi(still own my first sti) they’re a cult following for a reason, it’s a car you can drive year round, have a lot of community support and are awesome to drive. • @musewolfman
      @musewolfman 3 місяці тому +1

      You mean specific to the 2.5, right? They're the ones that will need new head gaskets at best, every 100,000 miles.

    • @jeepmanxj
      @jeepmanxj 3 місяці тому

      @@musewolfman no. It was specifically a problem with a head gaskets on EJ engines prior to 2000. Before the 25 ever got here. Anyone telling you they have a head gasket issue on a 2.5 is lying through their teeth.
      The issue was resolved at the time it was prevalent, for free, by Subaru changing to a MLS headgasket.

      And you mock based on what? STupid memes that ARE about EJ25 and not any other EJ? No other EJ motor other than 2.5 had issues.
      Subaru was using very bad headgaskets on EJ25 as cost cutting measure in naturally aspirated versions and these single layer gaskets fail once graphite coating flakes off, always at the same 100-150k mileage.
      No other engine used those gaskets, and it is possible to swap these for better ones from turbo ones. EJ20 EJ15 or EJ22 all of these didnt have any issues of the sort, even EJ20 turbo which was used before 2.5 in WRXs and in Japanese version of STi till the very end.
      H6 motors subaru did in SVX and Legacy/Outback also has no issues like this, all are more reliable than Beetles own awful outdated engine that had typical reliability of cars designed before and after the war. This means it would easily fail for petty issues below 100k miles as all cars did for decades. It was just very VERY easy to repair so it didnt matter. Educate yourself a little, instead of joining circus of fools repeating the memes with no research of your own

    • @Kacpa2
      @Kacpa2 3 місяці тому

      There are timing chain subaru motors like EZ30 H6 or FB/FA series H4s from Crosstrek and alike, both are very reliable. Having said that, EJ has very good timing cover, should be fine for most part. People use these engines all the times in Beetles.
