  • I ran at my local trails and reviewed the hyper-performance Speedland SL:HSV trail shoe after 80+ miles. This Speedland trail shoe is an absolutely phenomenal trail shoe, complete with a full Carbitex plate, Pebax midsole, super grippy Michelin OCX 3 web rubber outsole, a Dyneema knit collar, and expertly made Boa Li2 Fit System. This is likely the best trail shoe that money can buy, but is it worth $375?... Thank you for checking out my "Trail Talk" review video! Great review Chad! I have a friend who hooked me up with a pair.. $275 for GS:SFD but I'm only looking into starting to trail run after being a Covid couch potato and prior to the pandemic, a cyclist. Your video was by far the best of the Speedland. I'm going to do my first walk/run tomorrow but saving the Speedland's for later... if I keep them. Being a beginner, I'm not sure I "need them" yet but I've been introduced to the sport, and being in Marin County, CA we have endless trails to run and Mount Tamalpias is epic and minutes from my work. Thanks for your enthusiasm and I look forward to watching, learning, and running!

      This is great and I wish you the best of luck getting into the sport! Hope you learn to really enjoy it. It certainly has a lot to offer back. The shoes have served me well and last a long time! Here's a video to adjust some room in the toe box if needed: ua-cam.com/users/shortsdi4_YhxS2pU?si=bqplTseTWB7LYfEb

    Really looking forward to reading/watching reviews about the new Speedland GS:TAM's - their new max-cushion trail shoe.
    My current favorite trail shoe is the Norda 001. The Vibram outsole+midsole combination is lovely and the Dyneema upper is very touch. Their colorways and style is the cherry on top. It has similar stack to the Speedgoat 5s, but the stability and grip is way better.

      The Norda shoe seems to have promise. Would love to get my feet in a pair! The new Speedland shoe also looks pretty nice for sure! Thanks for checking out this video!

    Recently picked up a pair of HSV's myself. Already have 100+ miles in them. Overall I love this shoe and have zero issues whatsoever. Using them for Run Rabbit Run 50 miler this September.

    Excellent review, Chad - thank you. The original Speedland PDX is a tad bit lighter and breathes better. To me the PDX and HSV aren’t ultra shoes; they get heavy beyond 50 K. Ironically the Merrell Long Sky 2 seems to work better for me than either Speedland. While the Speedland lockdown is superior, the Long Sky runs much lighter, grips as well, and is generally more comfortable for longer adventures in the mountains. With a discount the Long Sky 2 is at about $250 less per pair than the HSV! My all-time favorite trail shoe, however, is the Norda 001. It is more comfortably cushioned than the Hoka Speedgoat 5 without being tippy and fits much better, and the craftsmanship rivals Speedland and perhaps surpasses it. Check out the Norda 001 collaboration with Satisfy Running; it’s a work of art!

      Thanks for the comment! I've been eyeing the Long Sky 2 trail shoe. Seems like a really nice offering! I'll have to check out the Norda shoes. One of the other trail shoes that I've really enjoyed is the adidas TERREX Speed Ultra. That trail shoe doesn't have as much cushioning but it's a very lightweight and nimble shoe. Thanks again for the comment!

    Fav trail shoe so far has been Altra Lone Peak. My trail run log is only about 400 or so trail miles so it may be biased and not that experienced as some others may be.

      I know a lot of people who really like that shoe. I've yet to be able to get my feet in a pair but would love to do so. Their latest lineup of trail shoes looks pretty compelling!

    Great video. If I’m an 11 -11.5 in most running shoes…such as ASICS and On…what size should I order for Speedland shoes?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Рік тому +1

      If you're in between sizes I would definitely go up half size in the shoe. It fits "true to size" (from my experience) but I also feel like it's a quarter size shorter than most other shoes. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Great video thanks. $375 is bonkers. I’m in the uk so not sure what shoes cost in dollars but that’s gotta be more the alphafly surely. Bonkers

      I assume Speedland ships in the UK, but I'm not sure what the cost translates to. Expensive, yes. Phenomenal build, you bet! Worth it... depends on how deep your pockets are I suppose. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting!!!

    Damn, my first car cost $500 Canadian, so basically the same once you figure in exchange rate. Fave trail shoe so far is the Salomon Speedcross 4. I'm on my 3rd pair. they fit my feet really well, crazy durability, lugs dig deep into the forest floors when I like to run.

      I've got the Speedcross 5 and can attest to their durability and deep lugs! Kind of crazy about your first car costing the same as a pair of the Speedland shoes. 😆

    Nice footage there. I see big business has got to the trail running world too. $375 for a pair of running shoes?
    When we first started you could get a decent pair of running shoes for £30 Stirling.

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Рік тому +1

      Interesting that you say big business because Speedland is a relatively new and small company. They only have one pair of shoes for sale. But I hear you! $375 is a lot of money!

    How much sand/dirt/fines got through the shoe mesh compared to other shoes you run in?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Рік тому

      The Speedland shoes don't let much sand/dirt in. Probably slightly less than other trail shoes due to the sock-like-fit/collar. As for the mesh, doesn't seem to be much different as far as letting sand in compared to any other trail shoe that I run (Skechers Razor TRL, adidas TERREX Speed Ultra, adidas TERREX Speed LD for example).

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  Рік тому

      David, the more I think about it, the more I realized that my socks and feet are less dirty at the end of a long trail run in the Speedland shoes compared to my other favorite trail shoe, the adidas TERREX Speed Ultra. The speed ultra mesh is also a little bit more breathable which would explain the difference. Hope that helps!
