Excited that BOA is starting to slowly trickle from the cycling industry over to running - it's a superior lacing system.
I agree, but only two dial systems. One dial boas are imprecise and will always lose to lacing (which is a lot more customizable).
Dyneema aka Cuben Fiber is pretty popular in ultralight hiking gear, but was initially utilized in sails. That softer knit sounds like a slightly different construction though.
Modular idea.
Like snowboard boots you can swap the insole and liners (although manufacturer brands dont advertised as such, but manufacturer somewhat follows industry standard and user ends up can do so)
Good video! It is an interesting shoe. I feel like they took the Saucony Mad River TR concept and dialed it to 11.
I think you're talking about the Saucony Switchback which had the BOA system? The Mad River TR's a great trail shoe for sure but I'm also enjoying the Peregrine as it has a rock plate. I had the first version of the Switchback which I enjoyed quite a bit. This SL:PDX is kind of cool also because you can return them to Speedland to be fully recycled. I wonder how long the visible stitching between the outsole and upper will last - especially at the flex point.
Great review! To me, unless the shoe is durable enough for 1,000 miles, it’s not worth that price point. With 80 miles/week on the trails mostly, if it lasts the typical 400-500 miles most trail runners last. That’s an incredible commitment for that price
I think if we were to look at a meal at a restaurant, one could say, "if it's going to cost double what a normal restaurant meal costs, it better have twice as much food on the plate". one might alternatively ask, "is the meal twice as good?" perhaps the quality of ingredients or the skill of the preparation can be used as criteria for answering the question.
using durability is certainly one valid way we can begin to discuss whether this shoe is worth the price. but perhaps there are other ways we can measure price per performance.
@@kofuzi I agree :) I think there are many ways to work through the worth or value of the show. Absolutely! I was just doing the math on the cost of the shoes and if they last 500 miles that’s an investment of $3,000 a year (at 80 miles/week) as opposed to &1,300 a year (my current budget for trail shoes).
I ran em for ~500 miles, then cut down all the lugs to match the most worn ones. Now it’s basically a new shoe and I’m feeling another 500 is possible, though the rest will be more dirt/gravel/sand than cliff side. (And actually I’ll probably cave and buy the updated HSV model).
I’m sure there ARE solid value and cheaper. But I guarantee if you’re running some of the most popular models like the Nike Peg Trail, you’ll be on your 4th pair and will have spent more than using one pair of these. And had a far worse running experience.

The Rolls Royce of trail shoes and like a RR if Sir has to ask how much they cost Sir cannot afford them. Eye watering price. Great scenery at least that’s free.
Thank you! Ordered mine Aug 11 and still haven’t shipped. Order fulfillment is a work in progress. Excellent video. Love the BOA in my La Sportiva Cyklon and and hopeful 2 BOAs are even better than one.
Update: This is the best trail shoe I’ve ever tried since began running here in Colorado in 1978. Qualitatively different and better! Well worth the price. The Salomon Glide Ride, Hoka Zinal and other ‘21 best-sellers are fine shoes but don’t come close to the PDX in grip, comfort and lockdown.

@@rickymclain hi Ricky. Best fitting upper I’ve ever experienced in any trail shoe. The toe box is excellent for my wide feet. The dual BOA allows for a precise fit so that the PDX is like an extension of your feet.

I would love to get your comparison w the Altra Mont Blanc BOA....when it comes out. They seem rather kindred.
Could the carbon plate be re-used in another shoe...after the soles wear out- think that could be done...depending on the shoe.
I understand the business model: people buy expensive gear in other outdoor activities; they’ll buy “gear” for running. It’s exciting and scary at the same time. I love these shoes and am tempted to get them but I never will. They’re just too expensive. I can see other people, however, buying them: Gearheads, alpine runners, and people that can afford $375!!
I have a fear that they will take off and this will become the norm for trail running. Step into REI and you will dump 2-3k on biking gear, 1-2k on cross country ski gear, 2k on downhill, etc. So in that context going from $140 to $375 for trail shoes is nothing.
In a nutshell, I want them to succeed but just as a fringe company.
Love some of the ideas here and would like to see more running brands using Boa dials. I remain convinced that carbon plates and exaggerated toe spring will cause serious issues if used day to day.

@@luisdelpozo9674 put simply, these are extreme examples of 'features' that actually prevent your foot from working properly. That's nothing new though - almost all shoes undermine foot function in one way or another. If your foot doesn't work properly, either because it is restricted, weakened or deformed, there will be a knock-on impact as joints, tendons and muscles try to compensate. Plantar fasciitis, ankle problems, shin problems, calf problems, knee problems, hamstring problems, hip problems, back problems, etc. In other words, most common running injuries.
fair review.., that price take is hefty though.
i can get 4 shoes for that, clearance of course.., but still 4 pairs of shoes. the entry into the ecosystem is hefty though, if that’s their move

Its a cool looking shoe (or equipment), but that price is hard to get over. Before tax and shipping that works out to $475 CAD. What happens if you cut the lugs and you make a mistake or decide you don't like the way it feels after...

These things look like an all-terrain track spike.
I do kind of wish they could have figured out a way to make the lugs removable like spikes
The only thing I’d be scared of is hitting a rock with the side of my foot and ruining one of the boa dials, rendering the shoe (and thus pair) useless.
I think Boa has been around in trail shoes for a while now, so I would imagine that there is already some data on that. unfortunately, I'm not aware what that data might show

This is a no compromise shoe. For the same reason people buy 10k bikes and it's people with 500 dollars bike that cry about it

To me this is nonsense. At that price you can buy three different shoes and you don't go messing around cutting lugs, which most people don't have a clue where to cut. Cut the lugs and... you'll get a sole for a specific terrain ¿? Waste the sole and the rest of the (375 $) shoe is over.
Trail running....it used to be cool but now you must wear $180 "wokas" like all the rad grandmother's out there (and yes every single person I see from 60-90yrs is wearing them and Brookes as walking shoes) or you have to be even more privileged and pay $300 for shoes like these now...lol. When I first started running 6 yrs ago Hokas we're $90 bucks. Crazy. Trail running is stupid now. I'll run in sandles.
