As a Moldovian,I love this
You were a bit wrong in explaining Bessarabia. The Republic of Moldova (Bessarabia) is a region of Moldova that was taken over by the Russian Empire in 1812. The rest of Moldova continued to exist until 1859 when it was united with Wallachia to form Romania. This Bessarabia is a completely different country than Medieval Moldova, a Russian domination while Moldova still exists nearby. The world confuses too much the Republic of Moldova with the Principality of Moldova just because they have the same name even if in English when you refer to the historical region (that of Romania which is historical Moldova) you say Moldavia while the republic after 91 is called Moldova pronounced as in Romanian
I will add with the video representation. The flag of the Republic of Moldova is inspired by that of Romania. Historically, the Principality of Moldova did not have a tricolor, only after the unification of the principalities.
I think that Moldova would be part of ROmania today had the Russians not taken Bessarabia in 1812
Moldovans are the brothers of the Romanians 🇷🇴❤🇲🇩
🙌😁
@@CountriesExplained sorry, also around 3:50 it's all messed up. You skipped 70 years ahead and merged the events. It's unintelligible
Moldovans ARE Romanians. There are 6-7 million "Moldovans" in Romania. That is Romanians living in Romania's Moldova region
@@CountriesExplained Ary reason why you deleted my message? I was pointing out mistakes in your video
@@gigikontra7023 The video obviously refers to the Republic of Moldova and not the Moldovan area of Romania...therefore, Moldovans in this context (as well as for the vast majority of people on this planet) refers to citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
This seems like a really weird gripe for the video. I mean the country is literally called Republica Moldova and its citizens called Moldoveni. And while many are Romanian (i.e. have Romanian citizenship as well), many are not (and oppose reunification).
"Mall Dova" made me laugh out loud😅
You made some things wrong in the beginning, it is hard to do correct but I will correct them. First of all, Principality of Moldavia founded by Dragoș Vodă isn't the same as Republic of Moldova today, but this will make sense later. Dragoș Vodă was a "Vlach" an exonym given to the Romanian people which was used for Latin-speakers (Romance speakers). This is also attested in a document written by Louis the First King of Hungary, this letter tells us about an Anti-Hungarian revolt, and was written on 20th of March 1360 saying: "plures Olachos rebellantes" which "Dragu (Dragoș) filli Gyulae, fidelis Olahi nostri de Maramarusio", "Oláh" is the Hungarian form of Vlach used for Romanians, and Dragoș was a kenazate or "noble man" of the modern region called Maramureș in modern day Romania, part of the famous place called Transylvania. Now your drawing of Principality of Moldavia is wrong, Bessarabia didn't make the whole region of the principality, and Bessarabia actually didn't look like that until 1812. Principality of Moldavia was split into three regions, those being: Moldova de Sus (Upper Moldova) which splits the region of modern day Bucovina and northern Bessarabia, we have Moldova de Joș (Lower Moldova) that splits the modern Romanian region of center Moldova and the center of Bessarabia into one region, but the last region was called "Basarabia" that was actually modern day "Bugeac" in Ukraine. When the Russians annexed the region we call today Bessarabia from Principality of Moldavia in 1812, the Russians took the name of "Basarabia" from modern day Bugeac and named whole region "Basarabia", that we know of today. The thing is, Principality of Moldavia still existed after the annexation, and by 1859 Alexandru Ioan Cuza who was a noble man from Moldavia became elected Prince of Moldavia and months later as Prince of Wallachia and formed what we call "the little Union" and he named the new state Romania as that was the endonym of the people from both principalities. Bessarabia on the other hand still remained part of the Russian Empire until its collapse in 1917, and one year later The Moldavian Democratic Republic (Bessarabia) voted for a full union with Kingdom of Romania in 1918

I like this better than the older vids:)
Loved this video ! I hope you'll become famous a day :)
+1 sub
hey!! this is really great! i'm from Moldova and i was quite surprised to find this video!
- the legend is really known! the national animal may be another species but it is called "bizon" in our language so.
- the history part was really good and quite entertaining! (doing a better job than my history teacher..)
- we do make A LOT of wine! it actually won a prize at the end of 2022!
- Mămăligă, even if it is well... porridge, we usually eat it with cottage cheese or sour cream!
- on a similar note, another well-known dish is... cabbage rolls!
- the mall is indeed called malldova! its quite a nice mall not gonna lie!
reply if you have questions :)
Cabbage rolls are national dish in all balkans and Turkey.
@@user-qv4fg8wb5c i wasn't sure to be honest
Interesting video. Hope I'll get a chance to visit this corner of Europe too!
I liked the animation. Great job!
Thanks a lot! 🙌😁
I am from Moldova, I win the olimpiade at history and I can afirm that your video is not full true put partially and our history other Canaries can't understand
mamaliga is polenta and is not the national dish but the national alternative to bread. Both in Moldova and Romania
Good job!
There are many mistakes in this video , and as a moldovan ill tell some . in 1859 the principality of moldavia united w Romania , not bessarabia which was part of Russia till the bolshevic revolution. In 1918 Romania didnt take Bessarabia but we united with Romania to form Greater Romania , we wanted this unification btw.
Interesting 🙋🏻♂️
wow !! nicely explained !! could we please have more videos like this? especially Asian countries
so very wrong about 1859
it wasn't Basarabia who united with Valahia, but the part of Moldova that remained independent
Basarabia remained a part of russian empire until 1917
1:20 lmao🤣🤣
Basarabia is a part of the former Moldova state, taken by the Russians, not the other way around as it is presented here. And another mistake: Romania didn't just take Basarabia back, by force, after WWI, as it is suggested, The parliament of Basarabia voted for the union with Romania.
Basarabia was just a half of Moldova, including Bucovina. Sad but this little big fact ruined the whole video 😢
When talking about Moldova, it's impossible to ignore Stephan the Great's influence. Bessarabia is a significant part of Moldova, but it's important to note that Moldova united with Walachia not just Bessarabia. The conflict arose between Russian soldiers and the Moldovan army, not between Transnistria and Moldova. Due to Bessarabia being part of the USSR, there was a territorial exchange. Transnistria, originally Ukrainian territory, was swapped with the White Citadel County (Cetatea Alba). This exchange unfortunately resulted in Moldova losing its access to the sea, which it previously had through Citadel County. That is why even today Moldova does not have access to the sea.
The fact that out became landlocked really screwed Moldova
2:35 nope, Bogdan had no fights with Wallachia. BTW - he was a Wallachian himself (like most Moldovans).
I am olso from MOLDOVA
4:33 No, Romanian did not cede Bessarabia. In 1940, surrounded by enemies and having witnessed Poland and Finland experiences with Soviets / Germans; and being aware of the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact, Romania just temporarily withdrew its adminsitration from Bessarabia. One year later, then Germans abandoned their pact with Stalin, Romania also entered Bessarabia to liberate it. However, it was a nut too strong to crack for the long term - so USSR took Bessarabia again (plus other Romanian territories).
🥰
I am a moldovean girl and at 11 years old the children here were drinking wins and vodka 😂
3:30 1959? Realky?
The video is completely messed up, maps are wrong, events mislabeled and mixed up etc. It's such a mess
Moldova is still landlocked
I'm from Moldova
Besserebia didnt have transnistria in it.
Dude no offence but do more research before making a historical video.. maps are messed up..
Tranistria and moldova
Numa numa numa iei
No 1991 Moldova has no problem with transnistria ,but with Ruzzia our anemic fight with 14th ruzzians army!
Yes, for some reason, this channel silences any involvement of Muzcovy in the wars it has unleashed. (in the video about Georgia, he also did not mention Muzcovy's war with it)
many errors.
3:45 Not Bessarabia united with Wallachia to form Romania!
In reality: Moldova was still autonomous state under Ottoman suzerainty while its eastern part was under russian occupation since 1812. Bessarabia was the name extended by russians from a smaller territory to almost the entire eastern half of Moldova, which they abusively occupied in 1812.
After Crimean war of 1856 the winners obliged Russia to give back Moldova the 3 most southern counties of Bessarabia - those neighboring the Black Sea.
Then, Moldova reunited with these 3 counties - also united with Wallachia in 1859 to form Romania.
hi
👋
Actually you need to know all the history before saying a word
Can I ask a question are you are a Romanian
Hell, I'm from Nigeria. Please Is it currently safe to study in Moldova?
No. The war is expanding beyond Ukraine's borders. Russia is deploying nuclear missiles in Belarus and many suspect it will try to strike Poland or Romania and blame Belarus for that. To prevent this, Poland plans to deploy troops in Ukraine, directly in contact with Russian troops to avoid them being nuked (because that would mean Putin nuking his own troops). So the whole thing is becoming a mess. With the destruction of Nova Kahovka dam yesterday we can expect a nuclear meltdown at Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (the artificial lake supplying the cooling water is drying) and in addition there is a high chance of a Romanian military operation in Moldova to remove Russian occupation troops. 10'000 NATO troops are already in Romania for backup and doing "exercises". Things are about to get very very hot 🔥
I hope what I wrote is clear enough. We are all keeping our bags packed in case we need to leave. Electricity has become very expensive because countries in the region were importing cheaply from Ukraine, but Ukraine now has huge deficit of electricity
Yes, I live in Moldova. Don't worry, you'll be fine.
Stay in Nigeria
@@eddiedevereoxford4995 can't stress this enough: don't come to Romania or Moldova. Hungary is a much better place
Just like so many other Eastern European countries under the boot of Russia and the Soviet Union has held Moldova back greatly. But glad to they have been able to keep their independence. If you never want to have regrets, never trust Russia. Just ask Ukraine.
You made a lot of mistakes, some of them huge, but the intention is appreciated. Good luck and please, just study more of European History.
Aurochs aren’t extinct
Basarabia is Romania!!!
@Aldoma-up8od 😂😂😂 stop washing brains with cheap rusian propaganda …..🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 disgusting…..
Maldova is becoming the part of the Russian Federation
Moldoveans here
👇
Very poor map representation of Moldova, that is Moldovan Basarabia but the actual true succesor of Medieval Moldova united with Wallachia 1859 that is the other half of Moldova wich from my point of view should not be called like that, but should be called Basarabia
Please name that state with the correct name: Republic of Moldova.
Moldova is something else.
Moldova is what remained after the russian occupation. Moldova joined Wallachia - and as both principality's population identified as "Romanians" they named their new, extended country - `Romania". There are twice al many Moldovans in Moldova (Romania) than in the Republic of Moldova.
Please, stop spreading inappropriate naming and depriving us of our history!
This video has nothing in common wit Moldova's history....
I met a Moldovan begging in my town today. Seems like if you're born a Moldavan you lost at life.
Basarabia is România's land and will always be. Just because Russia ripped that land doesn't mean is not Romanian.
POV: imperialist.
it's pronounced mămăligă not mamaliga, mamaliga sounds italian😠😡
Soviets didnt impose Cyrillic alphabet, it was actually there and in Romania before latin alphabet.
That was old church Slavonic, but was never in wide use by the population. Was only used in official documents in the middle ages...😂
@@gigikontra7023 Sorry but that is not right. All romanian documents and signs were written in Cyrillic. That hasnt nothing to do with soviet or russians...
@@KeeBo88 it's a DIFFERENT Cyrillic alphabet: OLD CHURCH SLAVONIC. It was not in use by the population. Only by authorities, and ONLY IN THE MIDDLE AGES! AND YES, SOVIETS IMPOSED THEIR OWN VERSION OF CYRILLIC ON ROMANIANS THAT WERE ALREADY WRITING WITH LATIN ALPHABET. Sorry to break your Putinist bubble.
Poorest country is Ukraine. Also Moldova is older than Romania and also has differen history. We are devided between romanians and russians. Legend from video is a nice part respect 🙃
Please check the history of Budzhak tatars (part of Nogai tatars). There were no moldavians in Bessarabia until the Russians took control of fortress of Izmail . Generally the hole Romanian history is fake. Not Stalin forces Moldova to change alphabet from Latin to Cyrillic. It is the opposite. Valachia and Moldova United and called the new country Romania changing traditional alphabet to Latin. Many mistakes. MANY ¡!
I am watching your video's and they're great but the history of Moldova and Besarabia you describe here are completely fake.
