Still listening to this in 2024! Any more out there? This is such a rare treat! Monique Wilson is a fabulous and intelligent person and artist! I hope others can enjoy this, too! 😊
The creative team at work behind the scenes are always on the lookout for ways to condense and streamline their show, especially during those first few weeks and months when a brand new production has begun playing for an audience. It becomes evident rather quickly what works, what doesn't work and what needs to be changed, altered or removed altogether. In this case it makes perfect sense that Kim would go directly to the Engineer for help after she's killed Thuy. Who else would she go to for help at this point in the story? There's literally no need for this 60 second exposition drop because we find out *exactly* why Kim goes to the Engineer in the very next scene. In the number "Kim & Engineer" which immediately follows Thuy's death Kim tells the Engineer exactly why she's there, what she's done, why they have to leave asap and also introduces her son Tam. Repetitive exposition is the enemy of every stage musical or play. Cutting this brief scene was necessary as it contained info that was set to be repeated again in the very next scene when Kim meets back up with the Engineer.

Can you tell how many times I've played this? :D LOL
Why was this cut? I find it makes more sense why Kim went to the Engineer
