Even without seeing Monique, her singing here really reveals how strong and immensely talented of an actress she is. It's like hearing a passionate, multi-nuanced, dynamically arc-ed monologue, and you forget that she's singing because the music notes just translate to various degrees and kinds of emotions. You can clearly tell the layers of emotions and story - the determination in her spirit, the hopefulness, the anger, the questioning, the love of a mother. It's a masterclass in storytelling through singing. And I can totally enjoy her performance with total detachment from the fact that I am a HUGE Lea fan. Zenaida Amador, the mentor of Lea and Monique from Repertory Philippines, once said that Lea is a singer who can act, and Monique is an actress who can sing.

She fits this role so perfectly. Young yet powerful, innocent yet tough.

She sounds so young here. It gives another dimension to the character who lived at a very chaotic time.

She was the alternate Kim for certain performances, it’s nice to hear her with the full orchestra instead of just the piano like in the documentary

Monique is also a very great actress and singer like Lea. She is very deserving to be in original cast of Ms. Saigon. I love both Lea and Monique. Each is unique and each is a treasure of artistic greatness.

Monique's rendition of this song is truly marvellous! Cut rather abruptly but this is still an awesome find! Thank you for sharing!

There you go again with all these comparisons and everything. I honestly don't get it on why Filipinos seem to be so inclined to compare one artist to the others. I am a big fan of Lea Salonga but in all honesty, I believe Monique Wilson has the best rendition of this song. I am not saying that Monique Wilson is better than Lea Salonga as in my honest opinion, Lea Salonga is one of the best singers amongst all the Filipino singers that I've seen & heard so far and she can match some of the best Broadway singers in the world, but seeing & hearing both Lea Salonga's & Monique Wilson's renditions of this song, I must admit that despite my big admiration towards Lea Salonga, I believe that Monique Wilson's rendition of this song is far better than anyone else's that I've heard and seen in person. Her emotions & interpretation of this song are quite phenomenal.

Totally agree! It’s really annoying how some fans trolled and bashed the last Kim played by Eva Noblezada as well, doing the same thing they did to Monique and to all the other Kims. I am a forever Lea fan and yes Kim was made for Lea, but all the ladies who’ve played Kim are just as talented and just as deserving to have the spotlight. Anyways back to Eva, I remember a lot of Pinoys bashing her singing that it’s not like Lea whatever - well right now that young lady is a rising talent here in the US getting lots of acclaim in her role as Rose in the movie The Yellow Rose (also with Lea Salonga) and also being a major talent in another Tony nominated musical called Hadestown where she was nominated for Best Actress (She was nominated for Miss Saigon Best Actress in the Tonys as well) Let’s just be happy to see very talented Filipinos on the rise and there are always room for more than 1.

I think Monique Wilson has always been the alternate Kim of Lea Salonga in the West End Production of Miss Saigon.

If she is really that good, where is she right now?!
After her very brief stint at Miss Saigon, she went home and vanished into oblivion.
Last heard she came out as an LGBTQ advocate.

Well Lea voice for me is better off with Monique ,no offense but for me the quality of Lea’s voice sounds more better for broadway or stage . I dunno how you analyze it but me salonga is better. Leas looks is more innocent and Asian beauty ,sa atin pa mas guapa si Lea Kay Monique . That’s my opinion so no bash ok .whatever your opinion I respect that . That’s yours .

You can't really compare them, for both have two extremely different ways of singing that shine bright on their own way. I just want to say that comparing people doesn't change nor help in anything, it just gives insecurity (for some) especially those who were told they're not as great as a certain person.
