Joe Sullivan is the fucking man! This incident sent him back a bit, apparently it fucked up his upper body to a point where he couldn't bench over 225. I listened to him on Mark Bell's podcast, it took a long time to get back to his old strength, but it seems like he got back up there.

This is also a failure on the gym and the manufacturer. If this has a low PSI rating then shorten ends of the barbell so people don’t put too much on. People aren’t going to check every time they go to a gym. Hes squatting 675lbs which shouldn’t be that much for a barbell to withstand. This barbell can’t even withstand an average American sitting on it 😂
The gym should have done their due diligence too and also checked the rating. If the rating is poor, then get that piece of crap barbell out of the squat rack and into a CrossFit gym.
No one is really blaming anyone, and he knew he fucked up from listening to him, he makes mistakes too like anyone would.
What I’m trying to get at is the amount of effort he had to put in in order to comeback. That’s what I’m most interested in. Basically, I’m a sucker for people who go through adversity and come out stronger.

I actually got a sort of dowagers hump sort of thing from squatting. When you repeatedly use that one spot for all your squats, the don’t notice the bar as much. I sort of described it as the sensation of having a “shelf” so to speak of where to rest the bar.

That's the wrong steel. We had one of those bars in the gym back in the day it started to bend slightly at 220 kg.. Never got straight again.. Than the owner of the gym bought some Olympic bars... They bend although slithly at about 240 kg but when you took the weights away it became straight again...

He actually got injured from this. Something about a nerve in his neck, it cost him a lot of strength on bench and deadlift until he got them rehabbed. Now he holds the ATWR in the squat.

When I was in highschool we got a new smith machine (the ones on rails they're not meant for heavy weight they're for form and safety).
This yolked as senior wrestlers slams as much weight as he can on it and bends the bar basically like that, destroys the rails and we lost the machine after like 1 day.
They're hollow bars and weigh around 15lbs empty, they're meant to hold at most like 200lbs.
