Let me make this clear.
I'm of the mindset that you have to grab me by the first couple of episodes or don't waste my time. I didn't like the idea of "The Dangers in my Heart" and my helpers, Tiffany and Laura, shared the same opinion so I was under the impression they fully watched the show and didn't like it either. I felt confident in my decision and didn't expect any backlash. I understand your concern and annoyance, so I watched a bit more. I understand he's more of a Chuuni and the show is about him overcoming his bad habits just to show how much he cares for his classmate. That being said, now I'm seeing this as gender bent Chuunibyou and I'm still not a fan. Think what you want. It's not for me and thats my opinion. I know you really want me to change my mind because a lot of you like it. I just don't. What people like and don't like are completely subjective. Believe me, this isn't my first backlash rodeo and I'm just riding this one out too. Hundreds of new shows are made every year and they're all pretty mediocre, generic, and copies of older ideas. A show has to grab my attention for good and bad reasons. Did I watch all these episodes of the show I picked as THE worst of 2023? YUP! Because it was complete and utter trash, so I had to see how much worse it got. I only forced myself to watch more of "The Dangers in my Heart" because of the fandom. Again, I may have misunderstood the overall premise, but I still don't like it. Plus, I don't like the "IT GETS BETTER IF YOU KEEP WATCHING" crowd. Like why should I force myself to keep watching if the first couple of episodes did absolutely nothing to convince me to watch more. Just watch my SpyxFamily video for more of this insight, but yeah. If you want me to make a "proper" review of "The Dangers in my Heart", leave a comment and I'll think about it.
Showing a complete lack of knowledge about what the anime is about invited way more backlash than just saying you didn't like the first couple episodes and dropped it, which is something that happens quite often with this anime/manga.
Again that’s your opinion. If you want a more accurate description of what you thought the show was, have you ever heard of the Netflix show “The End of the F***** World?
I mean it’s clear that people want you to give it a fair shot and give it a review in a more holistic light. You’re free to do as you please but I think you’re doing yourself a major disservice and missing out on a genuinely well made, progressive romance by doing so.
Never heard of Good Night World... was is region locked?
Monogatori was a 2023 title???
Is that not the same exact title as that anime from forever ago about the awkward girl from com?
I swear that name exists to confuse me... because I keep seeing it and its never the same.
In all seriousness tho; I think its a bunch of shows different by a letter or 2 in spelling.
"Himmel tragically dies of old age"
Actually, that's not tragic at all. Dying of old age after living a full life is really good way to go out. I actually find that its noteworthy that there was no tragedy in his death. Its simply the end of normal human life. No quests for revenge, melodrama, plot twists or anything like that; just the simple fact that death happens. It actually allows the story to focus on the idea that Frieran simply did not make the best of the time they could have had together. She goes on knowing that she really COULD have spent more time with him but simply chose not too. Story + Character study > Melodrama
Disney+ and Hulu actually have a TON of best of the year potential anime, that for some reason Disney is refusing to give any marketing too. Mother's Basement did a video on it. The most recent in this category is freaking Sand Land, aka the LAST ANIME TORIAMA WORKED ON BEFORE HE DIED! And Disney has given it ZERO advertising anywhere!
Why would Disney promote their competitors? It’s a known fact that Disney produces crap nowadays and they sure as hell aren’t going to support anime. This why you pirate.
What's baffling is after his passing they had the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to him by promoting his last work
Read the sand land manga it's really hood
@@bakaultima I've also heard the anime is good, but you'd never know it because I don't think Disney has said anywhere outside of Japan that they are the exclusive streamers of it
You sure that? Because I saw a good amount of ads for it on UA-cam
While I can see how you came to the conclusions you did regarding The Dangers In My Heart, the male lead is really a chunni not an actual a child psychopath. I mean, I could be wrong, but I interpreted it as a middle school tryhard edgelord realizing he actually enjoys life and doesn’t have to base his personality around being “dAmAgEd”
That's how I took it, but just really thinking of him as emo. Edgelord/chunni makes equal sense though
Yeah, I came to the same conclusion. To be clear, I loved this series, though I understand not everyone is going to jive with the romance. It just seems as though the focus for putting it in the Worst 10 on this list was on an element of Ichikawa’s character that is taken well out of proportion with what is actually being portrayed.
Let me echo what is being said, in the hopes of magnifying the message. *First,* let me make it clear I'm not exactly a fan; I watched this show (dubbed, even) because my friend group watches dubbed anime together. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise; I _can_ enjoy shows like this, but generally it isn't my thing unless packaged with other elements I find more engaging (like fantasy world this, or sci-fi this, etc.) I'd get bored while watching, but my friends were having so much fun, didn't wanna spoil it for them. ;)
*Second,* I was an even _worse_ version of the main character in school. I'll leave "how" to your imaginations, other than stating I mean I was more of a jackass but _not_ gonna kill anyone.
Frankly, having been a teenage boy, it could be all of the above. That certainly wouldn't be out of bounds.
It almost feels like Robyn only watched a few episodes rather than the entire first season, completely missing what the show is actually about.
I just recently found out that the main guy in my happy marriage is voiced by Damien from Smosh, that just blew my mind I mean I know he's a voice actor but I didn't even notice it until I found out then I can't stop hearing it
Wow that’s so cool!
he also voices the MC in Dungeon Meshi
I had to look up who he is since I kind of forgot about Smosh.
@@TheRealNCP shut the fuck up, that's him I love Delicious in Dungeon. Man first it was SungWon Cho, but I guess now he'll be the second guy when I think UA-camrs that made it big in voice acting
Wait, he is?!!
Hard disagree on Dangers in my Heart. It's not necessarily a show for everyone, but it's still pretty clear you haven't watched more than a couple episodes at most. You can have whatever opinions of what you watched, but I don't think you can make a statement about the quality of the *whole* series based on less than 3 episodes. Kyotaro being a "psychotic killer" is very clearly him being a chuuni and not an actual psycho. He'd rather explain away his social awkwardness as being edgy and "different." This facade is paper-thin, especially after a couple episodes, and his edgyness quickly gets sanded down as he grapples with his actual emotions. Their dynamic with each other is extremely sweet, especially as they get to know each other. There's a reason why it's enjoyed by many, and why it got a second season.
Also, I would've really liked if the Oshi no Ko section specifically mentioned that it was a MANGA spoiler. I thought it was just the typical "major spoilers for what happens at the end of episode 1" that 99% of Oshi no Ko reviews/mentions include. I basically got flashbanged with that manga panel, and I had been SPECIFICALLY avoiding any mentions of the context for manga discourse.
Ya me too
Yeah, the whole "Ichikawa is a school shooter-in-waiting who wants to kill Yamada" thing is pretty much entirely dropped by the end of the first episode, so fixating on that so hard shows that she got filtered by the first episode and didn't bother watching anything past that.
Can't believe this lady unironically said a middle schooler needs therapy just cuz he's a lonely chuuni. What in the actual fuck.
Tomo Chan is one thing but dangers in my heart O it’s on
You can't be too mad at Robyn. Not everything is made for everyone.
Thank you for pointing out the "incest" stuff in Oshi No Ko is massively overplayed and is not happening at all, the very next panel showed Kana reacting to that in pure disgust and 100% straight.
That and the series has made it clear she is very very mentally not all there. Will say my annoyance with the arc was nothing was answered about Ai
7:55 "tell me you only watched episode 1, without actually telling me you only watched episode 1"
lol. I didn't actually, but thanks for the assumption. Its just not for me.
@@AnimeAmericaPodcastIf you seriously watched more than 3 episodes and came to the conclusion that the guy is a psycho who genuinely wants to kill anyone - please, stop lying and actually watch the show. It's okay not liking something. But it's not okay to act like you paid any attention to what was happening beyond introduction of the characters
@@thebigsamshut the fuck up and read the pinned comment
@@thebigsamAgree, lol.
@@AnimeAmericaPodcastHow about *NOT* lying. 😊🤥.
Hearing Oshi no Ko being described as "modern day Perfect Blue" was the exact sentence I needed to hear. Everyone else has been wanting to avoid spoilers so bad that I could never get a bead on if it was actually worth watching.
The Dangers in my Heart is not what you think it is, give it another chance please, and you'll see some relationship development in Season 2 when they realized they're in love with each other 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
1:06 How DARE you "meh" Tomo-Chan is a Girl!?
Agreed.
I mean it had a non dense MC and a complete story.
The former was something ppl usually liked AFAIK.
I could not enjoy this video completely after seeing Otaku Elf get the same treatment!
Well TBF, Tomo-Chan is a Girl is a descent show, but I wouldn't call it ground breaking or a masterpiece.
Especially if you compare it to other shows of better quality. Is it terrible? no. Is it absolutely amazing? hell no!
But it's still a fun watch NGL. So Robyn calling it "meh" is pretty accurate and understandable.
If you disagree, that's fine. I just don't think it compares to shows like Attack on Titan or Demon Slayer.(Disclaimer: this is constructive criticism BTW)
@@nine_tails137 You're comparing a rom-com to AoT and Demon Slayer...? Apples and oranges, anyone?
@@neojay7522 Yeah, I know those were bad comparisons, it's just those were the first things that popped in my head.
Id strongly suggest taking a crack at dangers in my heart. Its definitely something others would enjoy but its CERTAINLY not what you seem to have it pegged as. Trust its fans and give it a chance and youll see there are deeper layers to it.
For fucks SAKE READ THE PINNED COMMENT
This Top 10 format seems good enough and many others use it for a reason, is a classic and in the right hands it can still be interesting. I love the award format and I’m grateful for the pasts years, but indeed it seemed awfully time consuming. Huge disagreement with The Dangers in My Heart being in the bad list, but outside of that everything else seems to be in the placement they deserve.
bro didnt even watch the danger in my heart. Theres a reason you should watch before andwering. Theres a 3 episode rule for a reason.
I got to episode 03. Its genderbent Chuunibyou. Not impressed and the characters annoy me. Just my opinion.
I almost dropped the show after the first 3 episodes, then I finished the rest in one sitting and it’s not one of my favorites. Season 2 is even better too.
Oh my god,I agree with number 8 for the worst animes! Like why?! It feels so very wrong! I love my dog but not like that!
XD
like that scene reminded me of that other scene in the Nicolas Cage's Wicker Man movie (Phallic Symbol Phallic Symbol)
That anime is unhinged and I love it.
Good thing I'm avoiding the Anime after seeing that Shower scene....
I am right there with you! Like that Simpsons clip says: "What the hell was that?!"
some of the ones u called "Meh" I personally enjoy
I love Farming Life in another World because yeah it's another Isekia
but I love seeing how the MC starts with only a blessed farming tool to building up a town and you get to watch his progress
When he's not farming, he's plowing.
@@Alakaizer😂
Thats so out of context but yet so accurate... and the hidden harem behind statement holds truth too lol
Hopefully your opinion changes for The Dangers In My Heart in 2025 since this was about the anime in 2023 and not 2024. I look forward to what’s next!
@8:54 *He doesn't need therapy, and that's the point!* XD He is *not* a murderous psycho, but he's trying to _convince_ himself he is rather than confront his social awkwardness. Okay, maybe a _little_ counseling to help with that would be good, but my point is that this is *not* the kid who kills any of his classmates, _nor_ is he the kid who offs himself. I know, because I was this kid in school, until Columbine happened. Then I realized it was no laughing matter and knocked it off.
For the record, I think "meh" is the best description of _The Dangers In My Heart._ I watched it with friends *because* they were so into it. Some episodes I was engaged, others I was bored, usually it alternated between the two.
*Addendum:* In hindsight, I'm worried I made myself sound _better_ than I was in high school. Just... whatever anyone reading this thinks, I was a colossal dork who _wanted_ to be an edgelord. Arguably the dorkiest of dorks! >_
Yeah, they dump the chuuni junk after like episode 3, and then you get two lonely people who support each other.
Yeah, you can tell us that she only watched the first episode and anyone reviewing shows without watching them entirely doesn't have the right to be reviewing them in the first place. I don't care if you think it's the biggest piece of dog shit ever made. If you're going to do a review on it, you watch that thing from beginning to end.
You can have an opinion of dangers in your heart but it is wrong 🤷🏾♂️ if you only gave it one episode you can have that opinion however the rest of us that gave it at least 3 episodes were able to figure it out. Its a coming of age story of a kid going through puberty extremely confused and obsessed with the occult and changing from his child hood top of the world type feeling to obscurity and not understanding his emotions and mistaking them. He goes till he discovers that it may actually be admiration after initially getting to know her. while still being the awkward kid in class while finding life isnt so bad and you can find friends arent so bad. While at the same time being an edgelord its actually what many a metal heads had to go through in our teenage years in the 2000s. Thats why it vibes and has a high score.
Okay so dangers in my heart is the only one on the list I disagree with go figure
That summary of The Kingdoms of Ruin just gave me The 100 flash backs...what monstrosity brought that part of that TV trend back and put it into anime form!(?)
NGL, My Happy Marriage hit too close to me and I cried during it.
I cried during it too
Thank you! also i stand by that pick
This is Tiffany. She hates FLCL Grunge

@AnimeAmericaPodcast do you think we will get gushing over magical girls in English dubbed
I agree with everything you said except Dangers of my heart so good . Made me laugh and cry and tore at my heart strings. One of my favorite animes of 2023.
I don’t watch the Dangers in my Heart. I mean, that’s your opinion. But you really think it’s worse than Inukais Dog???????
Can you do a Top-10 Anime Characters who have PTSD😰💣😡
That is up to patreon to decide
And even then there is still a couple to cover
I'm biased but Marik has got to be on that list. I'm still salty he only got an honorable mention in Worst Backstories. I mean, the guy developed a lifelong pathological fear of the dark because of what he went through!
Honestly, Kaiba too. I defy you to look at Kaiba and say he ain't got PTSD.
You can't mention "anime PTSD" without mentioning *Amuro Ray* from *Mobile Suit Gundam* (1979). Gundam is the title that brought forward the concept of PTSD (or shell shock) in a big way to the mainstream audience in Japan. It made so much impression to the point where it created a new subgenre for Mecha anime called "Real-Robot" and even Hideaki Anno applied some of the Amuro trait to *Shinji* in his *Evangelion* anime (but unfortunately without Amuro's resourcefulness & courage).
Atsushi from Bungo Stray Dogs should be on that list if it happens
Still saying that Shinji and Asuka should be on the list too. Parental neglect is _never_ easy to get over! Believe me, I know! I _went_ down that road when I was a toddler! It was horrible! Though nowadays, I'm glad things are going better, but those kinds of mental scars don't go away so easily.
I know it is a lot of work to do the "Anime America Awards", but it was I really look forward to it. I always enjoy your funny quote and know how to tell what bad and good.
Yeah. It's very obvious you didn't get "The Dangers in My Heart." You didn't get it at all.
Explain?
You know what? A top ten actually would work a lot better than the anime awards every year. Smart thinking, Robyn. Really well played.
Also, I still love your new look. It just suits you so perfectly.
It is smarter thinking, as it means she simply has to decide on the Top 10 Best & Worst anime overall, rather than the top two of specific categories.
And by making them exclusively new anime and not sequels, it allows people to find new shows that they would not have considered otherwise. Whether it's seeing the best of the best, or perhaps simply watching the worst to find out why it's so bad, and perhaps just to have a fun little hate watch, it makes sense.
Free to have your own opinion Robin but you're definitely in the minority with Dangers in my Heart. I and many others think it is the best rom-com in recent memory and one of the best confession scenes ever.
Oh May the god have mercy on your soul after calling Tomo-Chan a Girl ! Meh
You just opened a huge can of worms after that (especially with that Illulu line in the Kobayashi review).
Freiren and Apothecary Diaries are tied for first place for me since I can't choose between them
you don't have to choose, just enojoy both
Same they both just work the apothecary diaries because it was just a interesting take on a female just trying to survive and increasing her drug knowledge for her trade plus she makes a kick ass Sherlock Holmes kinda character too and frieren God what to say about that. It's just a masterpiece in its right the pacing for it is Fantastic cause it's showing in the view of an elf and the fact she learns so much from journeys it makes it actually very interesting take too
I'm guessing you only watched 3 eps of Dangers in My Heart because that the initial "I want to murder her" attitude of the mc is dropped fairly early as the story is about an introvert chuunibyou coming out of his shell, making friends, and discovering love and a popular girl finding solace and comfort in a someone that doesn't agree with her to be on her good side and is honest with her. It's a love story of 2 people completely alien to each other falling in love but with a more real, embarrassing, awkward vibe to it that many viewers ended up relating to because adolescent romance is awkward and embarrassing. Everyone has their own personal taste but it got an 8/10 because people actually liked and related to the show.
Mononogatari is also a good anime.
I like the new format for this. It let's me know about anime I missed as I was busy for other stuff. Also I mostly agree with you and your friends choices. I even found out the name of a few anime I looked at clips of but couldn't find the name of, so thanks.
Personally I found The Dangers in My Heart to be a pretty great anime, enjoyed it a lot. If you thought season didn't deserve an 8/10, you're going to be livid when you find out season 2's rating. lol
Yeah 😂😂, season 2 dominated a lot of anime lists week after week, on one list it was number one for the entire anime season
Yeah I'm pretty sure he will be shocked seeing how high the rating of dimh s2 on every website.
@@user-uk4ib9zx3lwhy are you calling HER a he.
I haven't even heard of Freiren but your description was enough to get me teary-eyed and that's enough to go check it out tonight.
Going based off the first few episodes of dangers in my heart, I get the critique, but the show leaned away from the murder fantasy slowly and he admits he simply has a crush on her. For me, I liked it.
Controversial take--Pluto is boring. Not bad, just slow
The thing that's really wild to me about Oshi No Ko is that, not only is it by the same guy who did Kaguya-sama: Love is War, but it canonically takes place IN THE SAME UNIVERSE. Like, WHAT?
WHAT
@@SupericeCap Yeah. Apparently you can even see a couple of the characters (I think the main two?) in the background somewhere.
Which quite frankly has some WILD implications
Obvious they only watched 1 ep of Dangers in my Heart and didn't look any further. Even in the first ep it was obvious to me that there is so much more to this boy and that what he is saying is not actually connected to anything that he is doing. You are absolutely allowed not to like it, mind you, but I would have said something about the fact that you didn't actually watch it, because the misrepresentation of the content is pretty egregious. If you said something to the effect of "I could only get through half the first episode and this is what I thought" Then, okay everything you said would make sense.
My favorite was "The 100 girlfriend to really really really really really love you."😊
7th Prince is such a neat rebirth anime. Lloyd, Albert, Jade, Tao, and Alieze are cute by design.
I agree
Dangers in my heart gets good after the Mc starts to actually talk people qnd stops assuming everything he thinks is reality
I am glad you mentioned Shangri-La Frontier, and Zom100. But where was Undead, Unluck. Oh and I liked The kingdom of Ruin. Except its too short ;) I've watched a few episodes of Frieren, but it to me, it just seemed so sad.
Honestly frieren seemed kinda sad however there's alot of other moments that make the show work
Top 10 Most Relatable Protagonists please?
My favorite anime of 2023 are
Buddies Daddies
Ice Guy And His cool Female
Oshi No Ko
Dead Mount Death Play
I'm In Love With The Villianess
My Clueless First Friend
Too Cute Crisis
Tomo-Chan Is A Girl
Campfire Cooking
Why Raeliana Ended Up At The Duke's Mansion
Excellent list. Tomo-chan is one of the best romance comedies made and My Clueless First Friend is incredibly underrated.
Amazing stream Robyn ! Your avatar new look is adorable! Suggestion: Solo Leveling! Power fantasy done right
Can you please do "Top 10 best anime side couple"
Took me a while to find you again, but I am so happy to have found your channel again.
While a top 10 list is always a safe bet, you will certainly run into issues when you lable something as 'worst' or 'bad'. There are always differences in opinion. What you like or dislike is never up for debate, they are your personal opinions and need never be justified. However, saying something is bad just because you didn't enjoy or understand it is never a good thing.
Like many others here I think that The Dangers in my Heart made the wrong list. The character progression of both main characters is really well done.
Mononogatari is another anime where the character is clearly a bit broken and requires help, but gets that help in a manner you disagree with. Maybe it doesn't belong on the top 10, but it certainly shouldn't be on the worst 10 either.
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea was a fantastic adventure story, not perfectly told. It is a creative sci-fi story where the people are all under threat of being destroyed by the very system set up ages ago in order to save the world. The mystery is a bit complex and some character are way to slow to react to things, but overall it is a good anime. Again, not top 10 but far from worst 10.
Kingdoms of Ruin was probably my most disapointing anime of the year. I like the general concept but the characters fell well short of their potential. I don't have an issue with all the people being 'bad' or even evil. However two things needed to be included. First they needed to go all in on the destruction/revenge. Let it have a full on world wipe/reset. That has been done before and done well. The second thing is the main characters needed to be more intelligent.
Frieren is absolutely an amazing anime, easy to place at #1. However I do feel its getting a bit over hyped as I felt The Apothecarys Diary was equally good and could see it in the #1 spot just as easily.
A few shows in your honorable mentions list could have been on the top 10 over some of your picks but mostly because I enjoyed them more rather then the shows in question being 'better' or 'worse'.
Overall, whether I agree or disagree, this was a nicely made list.
That BokuYaba take is horrible lmao
Like the new format. And happy Heavenly Delusion got an honorable mention.
What I love most about your channel is how you don't focus on the big, loud, mainstream animes but bring out the ones people miss because of the others. Keep at it! This format was great.
Can you do 'Love for an Otaku is hard'? I just feel like you would relate to it a lot.
What about Delicious in Dungeon/Dungeon Meshi?
Yet most of the series are "big, loud, and mainstream".
I Watched just the Recap of “Kingdoms of Ruin”. I kept seeing Commentors Justifying a lot of the DOGSHIT writing for that Show. But it really was Dumb as shit when you Really Break it down. None of the Arguments they had held any water due to how Evil Every Character (except for the Pink Haired Witch) was acting! And I do Mean that! It’s really damn Obvious as to Who is the Badguy and how our Male Protag is an Edgelord Vengeance Seeker!
The Fact that he decides to Target Everyone regardless of who was Favored the Witch Trials or not was Really Damn dumb!
At the Same time, The Major Plan of the Moon Witches Didn’t Make Any Damn Sense! And was only Reinforcing the Negative outlook on them!
I agree with you on Kingdom of Ruin. Not kidding, I watched all 12 episodes too, and soon afterward, I couldn't even remember what the series was called! I just remember it was fucked up and terrible. I should have watched Frieren instead. The manga didn't pull me in, so I didn't watch the anime, but I think I will now (especially since I've watched the other two in the Top 3).
I like this format, Robyn, and it seems to work for you, so please do it next year as well.
Hell's Paradise has one more thing to make it a good Anime: Gabimaru's English Voice Actor is none other than Alejandro Saab.
Do you think that around Christmas you can do a duo top 10 Naught to Nice and Nice to Naughty?
Mashle: Magic and Muscle - it's the "I CAST FIST" meme made into a show. I kind of need to see this now.
Ooku is actually based off of an award winning manga series. I'm not sure if it was the best choice for an adaptation, though.
If it was so highly praised, then why not?
This is like saying Demon Slayer shouldnt have been adapted.
I'm surprised you found the Anime on Disney+ considering that no matter which region, they hardly advertise the anime they put on the streaming service
I nearly choked when she started doing the meh meh (can can music).😅🤣
IKR! That part was hilarious!
Dead mount death play?
May I ask how you feel about Disney+ and Hulu not advertising any of their anime like Sand Land, Summertime Rendering, Heavenly Delusion, and my personal favorite of 2023 Undead Unluck?
If the new format makes things easier for you, then I'm down for it. Can't say I've seen (or heard of) most of those anime, but if you like 'em then they're probably pretty good (or bad, depending on which list they're on).
I think the reason the fast pace in the anime you ranked as the best is because it kind of gives the vibe of how the main character perceives things. Everything that a different qnime would have to go slower at to be good can go quickly here because it gives that jolt of the world as a human would see it passing in the blink of an eye from the perspective of an elf.
I have loved your videos for years and just now got to watch this again! Thank you for the amazing videos all these years!
Some of the ones you didn't like I was fond of, but there were some that you did like that I also did.--same goes with the dishonorable/honorable mentions.
One in particular though, I was a little surprised that you did NOT like, Robin. BUT when you explained your reasons... I got where you were coming from.
For the most part some anime last year it was a mix indeed of anime that was good, not the greatest, okay-ish, bad, and just g'd awful.
I wasn't too surprised you'd like Apothocary Diaries b/c that does deserve a top three spot for sure ^-^
As for the other two in the top 3 best... I'll take a look at "Happy Marriage" and "Frieren" when I can since I've been recommended to check them both out as well.
P.S. "Kiana of the Great Snow" gives me major "Nausicaa Valley of the Wind" vibes---just saying.
i didnt realize that i had actually watched most of the good titles this year! a surprisingly alright anime that wasnt here that i watched was the Vending Machine Isekai...i went into it thinking it was gonna be awful and dumb, but given what it is, its actually pretty good...
frieren is now officially my #2 anime behind assassination classroom though, i felt emotions in this series that just hit different than any anime before it...Oshi no ko gave me my first audible cry, i woke my husband up because i was crying so loudly for that first episode...and i just got the chance to watch apothacary diaries recently, it was such a beautiful anime and i agree i love Jinshi and MaoMao's dynamic

I truly enjoyed this. Also I love Iceblade Sorcerer. I krlnew it was bad but I just wanted more^^
My favorite anime of 2023 is The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You.
I missed out on Frieren and I regret it. I don't know why I skipped it.
man, i almost missed it too, when i stated to watch EP 17 came out already.
I'm still not convinced on 100 Girlfriends. Mostly because anime adaptations tend to only get 12-13 episodes(10 at worst) with no season 2 or continuation.
And before you say anything, yes I know season 2 has been confirmed, but the anime has only shown us 6 girls in season 1 alone, while the manga has introduced 20+ girls. So needless to say, the creator's standards are WAY TOO HIGH! So unless this anime gets 12 seasons minimum(which is unlikely), I'm holding off on 100 Girlfriends for now.
You can always go back now. And you get to enjoy it fresh!
@@Doodlesthegreat There's too much stuff to watch.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 I feel ya. There's been like 30+ anime every year, and only 3-5 of them are actually good.
Amazing video Robyn from anime America of the best & worst anime list in 2023,fantastic job. Some of those anime looks good to check out to see how best are they or the worst in all of anime ever.
The dangers in my heart, especially season 2 is probably one of the best romance anime of all time
Robyn is so relatable ! Keep up the amazing work
I'd say my favourite anime of the year is Oshi No Ko. Honestly I can't tell you the amount of times I've had Idol on repeat. Not ashamed to admit that i listen to it all the time, specially while cooking.
Kinda wondering what you would think of who is the best/worst (in usefulness) Royals in Anime, main characters aside I am often surprised when a King or Queen actually shows they are proactive and useful rather then just a cheerleader that exists only to shower rewards and praise on the Main character, or worse is entirely useless and counter productive.
If I may make a recommendation, Metallic Rouge. It's about a colony of humans and androids living on mars, and it's a mecha anime with an overarching mystery about the way of the world, and freedom, and Asimov's laws, and there's a fetch-quest beat 'em up story, and it's made by Studio Bones. Didn't know if I should classify it as a battle royale anime though. It's on Crunchyroll.
Thank You about talking about Pluto it was my #1 anime last year
It would be cool to also do a top 10 openings for that year 😎, especially for 2024. A lot of great openings ❤
I like how you did this best and worst anime list, nice and simple 👌 😄
Kingdoms of Ruin is #1 huh, Relatable, Cuz its the True Definition of "Nothing Makes Sense"
I am seriously SO HAPPY Pluto got an anime adaptation and that it's GOOD.
Ever since I first read the Manga (and I sadly only ever got to read 2 of them and NOT in order), I'd wanted an anime for it.
Now if they can just release it on DVD, I'll be in Astro Boy Bliss.
Also, don't judge me, I actually like The Aristocrat's Journeys and Reborn to Master the Blade.
They were good enough for what they were and entertaining enough to make me watch them to the end
I like the new format
I can understand your problem with oshi no ko, but do not spoiler without prior warning. ever!
Frieren and Apothacary Diaries are definitely the best shows of 2023. I'm glad you gave honorable mentions to some favorites of mine: 'Daughrer Left the Nest' and 'Tearmoon Empire'.
Though, you could have given a mention another good show: Gundam - Witch From Mercury
Have you ever reviewed "armed girls machiavellianism" by any chance?
I respect My Happy Marriage making it into the top 10, though I'd personally place it somewhere closer to the "Meh" tier. I did read the light novels before the anime came out, and it's not bad, but a lot of it feels more cliche than unique. However, I will grant that the anime is beautiful and I'd say is probably a better way to experience it than the light novel.
But if I had my way, Apothecary Diaries would immediately be in #1, no competition. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Frieren and Oshi no Ko... however, I was, yet again, a light novel reader before the anime came. I knew exactly how many tiny details were hidden in plain sight. I also know what's being set up for the coming arc. And oh boy, is the stage being set for the arc that is to come (which somehow still isn't the best that Apothecary Diaries has to offer. Manga readers have no idea what's coming). All this content wrapped in gorgeous animation, music by Kevin Penkin, and Aoi Yuuki's VA work as Maomao. And Maomao herself just being wonderfully Maomao, as she should be.
I'm oddly okay with this setup, especially since it's been awhile since you
did a Top 10 of any kind.
One thing I love about countdowns is hearing different opinions. I am not able to watch anime anymore due to financial reasons (can't watch anything on Crunchyroll for free anymore . . . ) and I don't do pirating. It really sucks too. Anyway I enjoyed this immensely and I will always respect your opinion too.
I just wish people wouldn't complain when they don't agree with your opinion. I always say it's okay if you like something someone hates and vice versa, but you have no right to judge people on it since it's not hurting anyone.
I didn't watch a lot of animes this year except Delicious in dungeon and i rewatched Kamigami no asobi| Mischiefts of the gods for the 10th time. It's my favorite reverse-harem anime; Hades and Loki are my favorite gods. He is a shy and polite man while Loki is a big kid who likes pranks. Cute personalities as well as fabulous hairs and pretty eyes. I love them 🥰
Delicious in dungeon is good. Gorgeous animation, excellent action and comedy, likable characters, nice music. I like it, am having a great time watching this anime. I give it 8|10!
Someone who actually enjoyed KamiKatsu even if the plot was dumb and the protag was a schemer. Still loved it. Def should get a s2. Def would rec D-Frag for similar but dumb funny content. And I'm definitely, DEFINITELY glad you gave Heavenly Delusion a shout out. It's pretty much Anime Fallout, but the show (anime) will give you blue balls to the n'th degree because it doesn't conclude the story. There's a lot of "aha!" moments in the series when you read the manga and come back to watch the anime. Like my favorite girl Mimihime, and her boy Shiro. Man, that show doesn't get enough love!
The glasses one was pretty cuteeee noooooouuu. The comedy timing in the show is goodddd
I literally finished Frieren this morning. It's a fantastic show. My only complaint is that there's so much left that could be explored. Did Stark try to pull the hero's sword? How was the Demon King defeated? Why were so many high ranking demons left nearly a century after his fall? Is anybody going to learn who taught Frieren? How are they traveling vast distances, shown buying supplies(and cooking)and their only luggage is Frieren's packrat suitcase? What's with the horn? It never gets mentioned in dialog after she gets it from Himmel, but she's shown to still have it several times. Why isn't her suitcase leaking an evil aura like his cabinet was?
Some of this could be answered in season two, hopefully, but some are things that feel like the time to answer them has passed. Maybe that was the point.
Oh, one true complaint:
When Aura met Frieren and her name that demons called her was revealed as, in English, "Frieren the slayer". Why not "The end", "The walking funeral"? Or something closer to what the Japanese meant in the source material? Even "Frieren the reaper" would be closer. She's not a "slayer". That implies that she even acknowledges that demons are living creatures that she kills. She doesn't, and they know it. She's as unescapable a fact as humans dying from old age. She is the end. If a demon sees her then they're already dead. And she does it with as much emotion as the farmer does when they reap their grain. Pride, perhaps, in a bumper crop. But never concern for the wheat beneath the scythe.
agree on complain about her nickname, english translation sucks hard on that point. good for me, im not native english so i watched on my language and her nickname there was actually terrifying after you figure out its demost who gave it to her. if i translate it on english it would be something like "the one accompany you on last path" or "the one who see you off on last path".
as for questions, i can answer some of them cuz i read manga.
"Did Stark try to pull the hero's sword?" no, he didn't, he's not a swordman, he uses axe. the person who could do it i belive is Sain's friend. BUT. if you read chapter 69 of manga(no joke about rule 69 or something, its realy 69'th chapter), you find out that one of human legen turned out being a trolling of one bored elf from the same vilage Frieren used to live in. the sword in the stone may easily be her another trolling or other elf trolling(since that elf girl was seamingly a strong mage too, the barrier protecting [spoiler] took Frieren 3 months to analyze, compare it to Serie's barrier that took less than a day).
"How was the Demon King defeated?" we may actually never know. but we got some hints. first of all, Frieren sayd it was collective win of all hero party. so no epic 1v1 there for sure. secondly, EP 26 she said Fern that the spell her clone used on her(the one Fern called "the hight of magic") was last time used by her 80 years ago, i guess its obvious in what situation. my personal theory is that the couldn't win at first, but after Frieren used that spell(and she prob used in in a very bad situation), the battle turned in thier favor, not ended there, but they used the moment right. because i hardly doubt demon king was ready for that shit, i doubt anyone could be ready for that, except Frieren who create that spell, i think even Serie would be taken by surprise. also, i want to take a moment to praise Heither here, imagine win against one of the strongest creatures in the world and nobody in your party lost a single finger, he's a godlike healer...
"Why were so many high ranking demons left nearly a century after his fall?" and what exactly is "many"? i mean, Qual was sealed and knowing Frieren, especialy after manga, good luck anyone to lift that seal. Aura was hiding after Himmel injured her. Macht was in eldorado, the rest of 7 sages are most likely dead. Solitar was low profile and not even Frieren knew about her existence. Tod is somewwhere there, but Frieren don't even know about her. and the rest used humanity's disorder and wars betwin kingdoms to not make themself too big of a threat.
"Is anybody going to learn who taught Frieren?" wasn't it Flame? or you mean who taught her from very start? it may not matter that much, since we don't know much about elfs, may be they had magic school? or her mother. idk
"How are they traveling vast distances, shown buying supplies(and cooking)and their only luggage is Frieren's packrat suitcase?" exactly. well, they have 2 things for it. first of all, all mages have some kind of pocket dimension or plase they can summon things from, where they store thier staff out of combat. and Metode used the same thing to summon a holy book in EP 25 to heal Dunste(that mage who told them clones have no mind). so i assume they can store not just thier magic items there. and ofc Frieren's suitcase, that is bigger inside than outside(i fckn bet it was a joke about woman's handbag the whole time) and prob reduce the weight of things inside of it. honesly, i wouldn't be surprised even if she had a house inside of it lol. also, did you notice NOBODY have the same thing ever in the show(including manga), even Serie? its either some "one of a kind" artifact she found during hero party journey, may be inside of a chest that's 99% mimic, you know... or Frieren made it, and if she did, this thing alone puts her a level above even Serie in magic.
"What's with the horn? It never gets mentioned in dialog after she gets it from Himmel, but she's shown to still have it several times. Why isn't her suitcase leaking an evil aura like his cabinet was?" well, who knows what she did with it in 20 years, she told she need it for some summoning ritual, so prob all evel aura in that horn is used. may be she carry it as an ingredient for something. or may be that horm in her suitcase is some other horn. also her suitcase may block any thing from leaking outside too, we don't know the story of that item, sadly.
also, my own complaint is them walking through winter with bare heads. in manga Frieren will learn a spell to heat up the body, but its in LATER chapters. may be she had something else for it, but doesn't seem like it helped Stark in EP 11...
I wish people would stop comparing Mashle to harry potthead.
It's black clover turned into a highschool anime.
Kingdoms of Ruin started off hot, but ended with a whimper.
Hey, Robin, who do I talk to about getting to do a collab. Review with you
'Blue Eye Samurai' isn't just my top for 2023, but one of my favorites of all time. Kinda surprised that Scott Pilgrim is on this list, but not Blue Eye.
I know what you mean
Reborn to Master the Blade was actually good. Its basically what Goku would be if he was isekai. FIGHT THE STRONGEST because reasons
To be fair, the witches from kingdom of ruin had a right they had been attacked first, so of course they’re gonna retaliate and there’s a prequel Web comic that deals with the queen
Her reasons for not liking the anime are dumb as hell
My favorites are
1. Tomo-Chan is a Girl
2. Otaku Elf
3. Too Cute Crisis
4. Buddy Daddies
5. Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement
31:44 Apparently the Kingdoms Of Ruin is a prequel series that is also a sequel because the main 2 characters are reincarnations of each other and every time they die they go back in time 😅Once I learned this I was even more confused.
