I'm shocked and feel personally attacked that Nausicaa is so low. It's easily my personal top 3.
Nausicaä is my number 1 personal favourite ghibli movie, but honestly I can respect his opinion

Nica is a brilliant film. I love it but just jubilee. I mean you got house moving castle pork Rosso again spirited away, but there are so many grades and it’s a good film.😂

Thank god people still continue giving The Wind Rises the flower it deserves. Pretty interesting list, but to be honest, I absolutely agree with most of your rankings and still see and understand your justifications for the rest. Top tier list, dude! And PS….Jiji is the GOAT!
-I was kinda suprised to see Nausicaa so low. I remember leaving it for the last movie while on my marathon of ghibli movies since I just didnt find description of big insects interesting but I was blown away by how grand the movies is, I can see why this movie was the reason for great success and creation of ghibli studio.
-tales of the earthsea had such a fun first half then it falls flat for me, but it really does not deserve the treatment it gets.
-The Secret World of Arrietty had the least ghibli magic for me as you said kinda doesnt have identity
-Howl's Moving Castle: I agree with you, it was a real nonsense and is a bit overrated, it looks pretty though
-From Up on Poppy Hill: you are sooooo right, like people making big deal of `incest` when its not even like that is really dumb... Club house is still one of the fondest memories for me when I think of ghibli.
-My Neighbors the Yamadas had my favorite musical score when `superhero` father was chasing kidnapers on scooter
-Porco Rosso even though its a short scene, when they are testing engine and blowing away shed is so memorable for me for some reason.
-The Tale of the Princess Kaguya had one of my favorite scene when she is running back to her old house
-Only Yesterday in japanese version Toshio has so interesting way of talking, stuck up with me..
If I had to choose my favorite one it would be Whisper of the Heart. Props to you for being able to rank them from worst to best, I would literally lose debates to myself in head while doing it..
Good video. Personally my favorite is Ponyo I watched it recently and it felt magical.

I didn’t understand the war themes in howl but now I get it and it’s really important and genius.

@loonylanson Lol, tbh I think it's in need of a rewatch. I first watched it looking to be entertained, without looking at the show as a whole. I think it can improve to atleast C
I wonder if this Film fest might happen again next year in 2025? Well, it happened in 2022, happened again last year in 2023 & now happened again this year in 2024. Last year I watched My Neighbor Totoro in Dubbed English. But as for Kiki’s Delivery Service, I saw the wrong one. I thought there was full Dubbed English everyday during the show times. But now that the Studio Ghibli Fest has returned, this is my last chance to see Kiki’s Delivery Service as I was expecting to see. But as for 1 or 2 of the other known features by Studio Ghibli called Spirited Away & Tales of Earthsea… I wish I could check them out, but I may not have time for them & I’m saving for the Dubbed English showtime of Kiki’s Delivery Service. Again, I’m hoping that the Studio Ghibli Fest will show up again next year & then I’ll see Spirited Away & Tales of Earthsea in Dubbed English. Here’s hoping & crossing my fingers for hope.
My ranking for Howl's Moving Castle is even lower than yours haha. I fully agree that the story is messy and not cohesive.
The first Ghibli movie that bored me. But at least the art and music were great.
Currently working on a ranking so here's my letterboxd account B-scope if your wondering the wind rises is not just my favorite ghibli movie but my favorite movie ever made
I disagree with a lot of the reviews, but wholeheartadly agree with your unbiased tone when ranking these. I feel like us ghibli fans get way too stuck thinking about whether Miyazaki makes the best movies, or Takahata makes the best movies and Miyazaki is overrated, and futher following other people's choices in terms of what are the best films in the studio, and most of the time, fantastic films like My neighbours the Yamadas, Whisper of the heart and Porco Rosso get ignored, or even worse, all attributed to Miyazaki alone. People forget how freaking great Takahata was, honestly. I feel inclined to heavily disagree whenever anyone says that only Miyazaki films are good.
Ocean waves is in my top list list of Ghibli movies. The movie had limited budget hence the short film length and they couldn't able to fully make the movie but nevertheless the movie is beautiful and has great aesthetics and retro vibes. If u love 90s 80s japanese anime. the score is phenomenal. You said something abt character development when we are in our teenage we can't fully wrap our life together we can't make great decisions.when we grow up, we come to understand how stupid we were in our early lives. I think the beauty of this movie was that true to life and the sweet nostalgia. It is what it is. Some people just put their critic glasses when they watch rather than to actually enjoy it.
