Back in the 80s, Alabama didn't sell alcohol, so we'd all ride to the state line to Mississippi and get draft beer. I thank God for praying mothers because nothing ever happened to any of us. As for ghosts, I didn't believe in them until I died for 2 minutes, and recieved the 6th sense. I have been tortured for years by spirits calling out to me. I know this sounds crazy, I'm not crazy. I had been in a situation where some guy didn't listen to no, and my mother wasn't there for me.
Could it be that Johnny was dared to do what he did? And being the adventurous guy he was, he agreed. I wonder if the person or persons feel any remorse for goading him into this stunt. We will never know.
Been there many times as a kid in the 80's, always heard this story, the elevator has a glass floor, or at least it used to, it used to make me nervous
They said that Johnny was climbing up the elevator shaft when the elevator counter weight came down and knocked him off...this is what decapitated him.
Lamont, I lived in AZ at this time. Maybe it was on the national news. Was a little older than Johnny. I vaguely remember this story. What stuck out was a teen climbing a tower. While it is not, it's like a scene that would be a in movie. Thanks for this story and tribute, Lamont.
One of the strangest series of deaths was when two maintenance workers got electrocuted in the Viking Ship pond on the same day. There was an exposed electrical wire in the pond. A worker went in the pond for some reason and was fried, then someone tried to help that guy and got electrocuted. Also, on the same day, a wmn died on one of the rides. This was back in 1991.
Gosh! How tragic😢I have never heard of him. Thanks for bringing this to light. I was an alcoholic, well i guess even if your sober your its a name that sticks I still don't drive and its been a while since my incidents with the law. I am fortunate to not have hurt anyone.
I also graduated high school in 1983. I went to school in Golden, Colorado, which is not an experience I'd recommend to anybody. Despite school being a miserable experience, I had a few friends and a lot of high times. I'm kind of amazed I didn't end up dead with some of the stupid crap I did. We had a silly local legend about Molly the Hatchet Lady that went a little bit something like this. If you went to Red Rocks Amphitheatre when the night of the full moon fell on the 13th of the month and sat in the 13th row at midnight, Molly would come and chop off your head. I didn't believe there was a Molly, but I never sat in the 13th row at midnight on a full moon either. There are a lot of great old graveyards near some of the mountain and prairie towns in Colorado. Unfortunately I'm no longer physically capable of exploring some of them, but if you ever plan to come out this way, I will try to get in touch with you so I can show you some of them and maybe also the marker at the spot where Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska touch, and I'll treat you to a Beau Jo's pizza.
Being from Ohio i went to Kings Island many times. I know of 4 other deaths that happened there other then John. They used to have an animal park there and one of the keeper's mistakenly was left in enclosure and killed by a Lion shortly after it was closed, in the late 80s 2 people were electrocuted in the same water area when one stuck his hand in the water not knowing the light in the water had bad wiring and the water was electrified and the 2nd guy died trying to help the first guy jumping in the water after him. The final death in the 90s happened when someone fell out of the ride Flight Commander. They recently had a death at Kings Island when a man jumped a guard rail trying to get his phone or wallet and was hit by a roller coaster rider.
I went to Devry in Columbus in 1984. The drinking age was 19. I was only 17, any bar, convenience or liquor store never once ID'd me for beer, but ALWAYS for cigarettes, which you had to be 21 to buy cigarettes, so I had to get my older roommate to buy them for me. Going to a bar was literally like going to a "party" in someones basement filled with drunken teenagers. I moved there from Kentucky where only 2 or 3 years before raised the drinking age from 16 to 21. I remember buying beer from a fake beer barrel and tap on the wall you would fill up a gallon plastic milk jug in from Convenient stores (back when the "Hey Verne" Jim Varney commercials originated from, and around the same time. We would take them to the local drive in and get drunk every weekend. Everyone did. If you got caught driving drunk with a carload of kids, the cops would just follow you home to make sure you made it ok. Until the Carrolton KY bus crash of course, then they began to crack down on drunk driving all across the country.
Back in Florida drinking age was 19 ..1 month before my 19th Birthday they jumped the age to 21.I was a Pissed off puppy ..But My girlfriend at the time was 20 .If you were already 19 when they passed passed the law You were grandfathered in and you were legal to buy alchohol ..So it stopped me from going to Bars but it didn't stop me from getting alchohol .She bought it for me .Plus if i wanted some beers My Mom and Dad would buy it for me and i had alot of friends back then that bought for me .😮 that was back in 1988 😮
I graduated in 1983, lived 30 minutes from Kings Island. Mom wouldn't let me go that night, we had no money. I'm glad I didn't. So very sad!

I had been in a situation where some guy didn't listen to no, and my mother wasn't there for me.
Dang. I hear my name being called too! It's usually right before I wake up. I hear male voices. Never female though.
I’ve lived in the greater Cincinnati area my whole life, and I used to go quite often. Until now I’ve never heard of this tragic incident.
very sad story way too young RIP
Hi Lamont!!
Hii
Could it be that Johnny was dared to do what he did? And being the adventurous guy he was, he agreed. I wonder if the person or persons feel any remorse for goading him into this stunt. We will never know.
When I was in high school there were several kids I knew who did stupid, darlng things and sadly died.
😢😢😢😢😢😢
Been there many times as a kid in the 80's, always heard this story, the elevator has a glass floor, or at least it used to, it used to make me nervous
Lamont has business cards? #BALLER!!!
Great content as always!
I lived in Ohio as a child for a few years. Visited Kings Island once from my memory.
They said that Johnny was climbing up the elevator shaft when the elevator counter weight came down and knocked him off...this is what decapitated him.
The drinking age changed from 18 to 21 on July 17th, 1984.
Here in Vermont, the legal drinking age became 21 on July 1, 1986.
In England it’s 18 but driving is 17 and sex is 16.

Appreciate your stories Lamont. Following for couple yrs now. Always watch your videos when they hit my feed. 😎👍
Wouldn't it be interesting to see if anyone could film him with all the technology this day & age is the place still open. R.I.P. JOHN 👍®️
Omg
Beautiful cemetery and fall colors.
Gosh! How tragic😢I have never heard of him. Thanks for bringing this to light. I was an alcoholic, well i guess even if your sober your its a name that sticks
I still don't drive and its been a while since my incidents with the law.
How truly sad that is😢
Being from Ohio i went to Kings Island many times.
May his soul rest in peace
I missed this video some how but i am watching it now. I never heard of this man. May he RIP!😢😮
I was there on that fateful grad night!!! I personally had a blast but I didn't hear about this man until we were on our way home.
