What's better than to celebrate ringing in the New Year with Lamont, and then to wake up to a video? New year blessings to you, Lamont.
Word up. This video is outstanding

I enjoy theses glimpses into America's towns. I hope to see more of these. Thanks Lamont.
We’ve seen so much of America through Lamont

Great format and held my interest. The old architecture is nice to see. Thanks for showing these towns respect.

Happy new year Juanita 🎉 ✨️ 💛
My mother came from Brownsville. My grandfather built his own house and had a feed store business in the basement and he did this without more than a couple of years of grade school. He lost his business during the depression giving credit to his neighbors. He and my uncles worked in the coal mines. My grandmother gave birth to 8 children at home. Mÿ grandfather died when my mother was 12 and 5 or 6 years later she married my dad then eventually moved to Pittsburgh.
I lived there long ago
both my parents graduated brownsville high school class of 1957
I love how you are not afraid to talk to anybody. You teach us a lot by being you. Very good video full of history. Before today, I didn't know the difference between a cemetery and graveyard.
Maybe it's an age thing bc I'm not afraid to talk to people idk either.
They'll either answer or they won't. 😅
Btw
Most will talk back to you, especially if you're giving them a compliment! 😊
Happy New Year!!
I live in Brownsville and didn't even know of half the info you shared! I love the buildings here they're beautiful, I wish the town was still up and running! Thank you for sharing about my small town!
A lot of history in Pennsylvania. Awesome episode Lamont , brings back a lot of memories for me, many decades ago. 👍
Hey cheap laugh: yes there is alot of history there and throughout that whole state.

I used to live abt 20mins from Brownsville, in Smithfield, right by Uniontown. Unfortunately, most of the area is just like Brownsville. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of the state, nature speaking. However, the poverty, lack of jobs, & dr*gs, has made it nearly impossible to sustain any type of life. I had my son in Uniontown Hospital, moved out of state shortly after. No way could I raise him there. I truly hope towns like Brownsville & surrounding areas are able to make a comeback one day. Thanks for sharing this with us, Lamont, & Happy New Year:)!
I grew up in California and been to Uniontown a million times. The mall was my teenage hangout. Rich’s Fright Farm in Smithfield one of the best haunted houses around!
Beer, dope and braggadocio...
A fabulous informative video. ❤❤❤
@@grantzelenick8200 Used to live right on Main Street in Smithfield, small world! Rich’s was great!

Oh my goodness!!! Can't believe you are in Brownsville! My Dad grew up there in the hills above the city and his parents lived there for decades! I loved going there as a child. Definitely an immigrant town, my grandparents were from Hungary and Czechoslovakia and settled there because of the railroad. English was basically a second language, the people were beautiful and from many countries! A lovely bakery was just down the street was amazing but was so funny to listen to a German husband argue with his Italian wife!😂 Granddad worked his entire life for the railroad and tried to get my Dad to work there but he joined the army to get out. The hills above the city are crazy steep and they had to park their cars and walk up to their houses. My dad actually learned to swim in the monagahala (bad spelling lol) from Johnny weismueller the original Tarzan cause he threw him in the river!!😂😂 thank you so much for visiting brought back so many happy memories❤❤❤ love your channels and your perspective, never judging just tell it like it is❤❤ happy new year my friend!!!
Lamont always shows me something interesting and new❤
This is definitely one of my favorite of lamont's videos ever. It really seems like his expertise has increased over the years. This video is extremely interesting. I love the locations. Great job Lamont seriously.
I do have to say I learn more off your content than I did in history class.
Our whole country is sliding into the abyss.
Make like a tree and stand strong against the landslide!
You can do it! 💪
In big chunks like an iceberg-calving glacier.
I love your explorations of small towns… giving their history and local legends and stories. Thank you!
Happy New Year Lamont 👊🏻🫡
Happy New Year! My Dad was raised there. It used to be a vibrant area back in the day- much like my hometown of Uniontown which is 25 mins away from there.
Lots of history near that area. Fort Necessity is where the French and Indian War started. You have Frank Lloyd Wright’s house called Fallingwater.
You are a cutie
I’m from California Pa. Used to go to the mall in Uniontown all the time
Very pretty
@@billwill1337facts I didn't want to be weird in the comments but damn she fine lol
I love Uniontown
My father was born and raised in nearby Republic, and to say that Brownsville has fallen off is an understatement. Small businesses leaving and druggies moving in didn't do it any favors.
Because of you I’m now into checking out old headstones 😊. Happy new year 🎆🎊🎈. Stay safe out there. ❤😊
Me too!! I have a comfort that I never had. When my Granddad passes 3 years ago, I went back driving thru looking at rhe headstones etc. Thankful for that feeling now. Happy New Year
Happy New Year Lamont. May God bless you
My grandfather was from Brownsville born in 1929 and moved to Cleveland Ohio I think in the 1930s or 40s I was just out there a few months ago to visit my great grandparents and great great grandparents grave they were from England and the cemetery they are buried in is old and awesome to explore! Great job on your videos always nice to watch them very educational.
You're getting better and better, Lamont!
Leave to Politicians to kill you once thriving town
I visited Brownsville, PA in August 2024 and I can honestly say that it is the most depressed city I have seen in the United States in a long time. Absolute ghost town. I wish I could've seen it in its heyday. The river and geography are beautiful.
Yes it's all boarded up 😢
You haven't been to Clairton then
Lol😂 you haven't been to my hometown then 😂😂
That retaining wall you showed has tunnels behind it. They put stones up and covered the entry ways. I was always down in that town as a kid back in the 70's
It’s so sad how the most beautiful places in America are so depressed.
I live in new Kensington, Pennsylvania, and yes, most of America small towns have succumb to this. It’s a sign of the times.
Thank you for the short history. It doesn't matter how much or little you show. It is all good!
Been watching your show from state of Maine for a few years now !
Me too, midcoast and retired..Lamont takes me places I’d never get to see😊
This could be your calling Lamont to revitalize the town lol thanks for the videos
Really cool vídeo L thanks for a good one for your real fans
Once they moved in, everyone else said "Well there goes the neighborhood" then left.
Who’s they?
@@belizegal29illegal immagrants
You should have seen it about 5 years ago. The town is actually better than it was then.
Used to visit my grandparents in Brownsville every summer in the 1960s. They lived on Angle Street at Middle Alley. House is long gone and the lot is now a community garden. We would buy groceries at that market (maybe an A&P) you pointed out at 25:18. When you mentioned the immigrants it made me remember that Brownsville had a huge influx of Hungarian, Russia and other immigrants back in the 1920s to work the mines.
Stay safe
And I did enjoy! As I commented earlier, I love small town tours and the variety you share. I love learning so keep it up! Thank you!
I love these "what happened to" videos Lamont. Nice going !...👍

Hey gogo!! Happy new year 🎉 ✨️ 😊
@ thanks you too
Love it. Ty for what you do.
I am a Brit and I don’t need to travel to the us, I can see a lot for free here😬
I lived in the Historic District of Savannah for 9 years and studied its history. It was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe, an English nobleman. The doctor who came over with the 114 original group with him died not too long after arriving and James and another man, Noble Jones, both took over being “surgeons” for the group with no medical expertise. They’d befriended a local native chieftain, who taught them native medicine and cures and most issues were illnesses and of course, women took care of midwifery. But I was always struck by the idea that regular ppl took over doctors chores!!!
That’s a very pretty town with a lot of history behind it but not much else. Very sad really. Safe journey Lamont ❤️❤️👍👍
Happy New Year Lamont!!! May you have abundant blessings!!!
Nice. Love the before and after shots.
If you had kept walking up the hill on church street past the rail museum you would have seen St Peter's church and the brick road. Fantastic view from up there.
Hi Lamont! I really enjoyed the video. So much history to it. Thanks for taking us there ❤

Happy new year Lamont 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🎇🎇🎇🎇🎆🎇🎇
HAPPY NEW YEAR LAMONT ❤🎉
Found your video interesting. But, I understand a big reason for the condition and demise you have to include the story of real estate developer Ernest Leggett. He brought big aspirations to town. Bought up many of the buildings in the downtown area for a dollar promising revitalization and did nothing. Allowing Allowing further deterioration of the town. That story in itself would make an interesting follow-up video.
Loved this video some of the buildings in Brownsville look really nice i loved that first bank you showed in white and the station looks perfect to be turned into a hotel.
Yes @Alexander, glad for your comment & I think it could have been the "anchor" to inspire other development. What I think is lack of vision. If someone or group w money has the energy to improve something, let them, they don't want to lose their investment & will make it work! Happy New Year 2025 Alexander!

I grew up there and know the history quite well as one side of my family goes back quite a ways... it was destroyed by corruption and greed ...a harbinger to whats happening to the entire country... pay attention to it...its coming to your town soon...

Hey 👋 Lamont, I tried one of those Quick Trip grilled cheese sandwiches yesterday and it wasn't to bad but I make them a heck of a lot better! I was hungry tho..😂
Did you have them run it through twice😂😂😂
@veronicahancock3245 😂 Negative, the one time "run thru" was perfect! 👌 🤣🤣
Tires have a date code on the sidewall..Never utilize a tire older than 7 years that you have no history of exposure to the elements
How about ones kept in a basement, consistent 50° or in a shop without heat and a/c so various temps but out of the elements?
Oh!
And why 7 years as opposed to 5 or ten?
Odd number.
Its so sad. Im glad I lived growing up in a different time
I'm guessing you are referring to the sawing bc there's quite a few differences portrayed in this nearly 30 minute vid you could be talking about.
Maybe everything? 😅
I live near here. It’s such a beautiful place a lot of history
There are more buildings than people. It's a shame that this town is so deserted. I bet the town was beautiful in its heyday.
When the coal mines shut, the town started to die. I had relatives who were born in Brownsville back in its heyday. It's horrible now.
Lamont Happy new year 🎉 cant wait to spend another year with you 😊
Happy new Year!!
@JuanitaMayo-o7l Juanita I was thinking about your Spare ribs 😋 last night 🌙 how did they Turn out??
If I may add a comment, there are thousands of homeless people, many educated in plumbing, electrical work, construction, etc. There are many " ghost towns ". They could fix them up and be thriving towns once again! Just a thought.
That would almost work if these people were capable of kicking their bad habits and working full time.
Many are suffering with various mental illnesses on top of the dependency issues.
And they're not ready to stop.
That has to be their choice to get better.
It's a good thought but there's more involved than fixing up- there needs to be business & job opportunities - - employable people & people who have money to spend in said businesses.
Nice video Lamont, I live about 40 minutes from here just inside WV.
I grew up across the river from Brownsville in California PA. Been there many times. Nemacolin Castle used to turn into a haunted house. It was once a nice town.

Those stones look good. Great grounds. Happy New Year
Such beautiful architecture. Back then they put so much talent and care into designing and construction of buildings. Such a shame they are vacant at this moment. Oh and Thank You for not calling graffiti 'art' and for not calling these thug pricks 'artists' who are 'expressing themselves'.
Most true adults, not meaning you're just over 18, call it that!
Once you're on your own paying for everything by yourself for a long time, all those calling it art will change their tune, even faster if someone gives them a taste of it!
Say they worked hard to buy their first new car and some punk comes along and practices their art on that new vehicle, I'd imagine the term, "they're just expressing themselves"
Will be replaced by them expressing themselves in not such a pretty way! 😂
Oh and when you're young and people steal from you, it's usually your "friends."
My father used to take me here for haircuts. I hope you get the chance to check out the Polly Williams grave.
I enjoyed that it’s like where I live in England,it’s called Coalville

Enjoyed your video about Brownsville
My family is all from Fayette county. Still have a few aunts and uncles there. Growing up I spent alot of time there. My grandparents were still alive. Aunts uncles cousins. Most of them were around Uniontown. I always heard bad things about Brownsville. Grandparents were in coolspring. Aunts uncles in continental 2. Dad grew up in Collier. All patches as they called them. Old coal mining communities. Company houses, company houses etc.
Lamont you’re 1 hour from New Kensington Pa. You should look up the mafia history and how the aluminum business had that town the most exciting town in Western Pa back in the day. It was a booming metropolis but now it’s just a run down ghetto. Lots of history there would make a good video.
