The round disks that are left over from using the hole saw or wing cutter are called round tuits. They are very valuable. When you have a friend who needs to do something, they'll say something along the lines of "I'll do that when I get a round tuit." So you can give them one of your round tuits, and they can get the job done.
Thanks for the informative video. I just bought a new drill press today and I am still assembling it. I am building an end table and I am using dowels. This machine will make the holes perfectly.
I have watched it for the 2nd time in one month's time. And learnt few things. I have a task to cut a 2" hole on a board and was wondering how I would do it. I got excellent ideas here. Thanks.
I learned about the drill press 60 years ago in wood shop. I had forgotten many of the setups here, so it was a nice refresher. I would only add that he needs safety glasses as some wood throws splinters and a mask would help not breathing in the wood dust. In creating the video I understand why he did not have those as it would be difficult to talk and show the setups.
This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!
I have read, recently, that using a hand drill as mini drum sander is unkind to the bearings because of the lateral pressure. makes sense to me. As a fan of bandsaws and mid power drill presses, do you have any comment about using presses as a substitute for a drum saw..especially one which oscillates in operation.
The wing cutter might be exactly what I need. What size wing cutter did you use? I need something to replace the 2” forester bit. I’m making circles but not holes in the wood.
Hello am from Indonesia, am beginer in woodworking. Well done sir very usefull video for beginer like me. Keep uploading more video, five thumbs..😁👍👍👍👍👍
1hp==746W....so a 250w machine might, I Think, be pushing it a bit. 4inches is 100mm.....and I've never tried using holes saws that wide---I'd set a wing cutter at 50mm from the centre so it cuts 100mm diameter. And I'm used to machines of over 500W, so that's 2/3 hp.
11:10, you showed earlier that you can turn your table. Next time do that one action instead of unclamping twice and reclamping twice. Lazy people do three less actions ;)
Is a drill press even really necessary? between a plunge router and cordless drill which most woodworkers already own you should be able to do anything a drill press can and then some. what am I missing here?
Hard for me to believe that you could get the same trueness with a corded drill, I think the drill press excels at getting perfectly vertical holes. They aren't a huge investment, either, under $300 dollars, space in the shop might be an issue though.
Five years ago I bought the cheapest one Wen makes - I think it was $59 - and used it to make all the holes with a 35 mm forstner bit for the euro cup hinges when I built new shaker style cabinet doors for my kitchen. I tried freehanding the first one but there was no way I could hold the drill steady enough to drill the nice neat cups for the hidden hinges. With the drill press it was a piece of cake.

Thank you Steve McQueen. I will tell my husband that I learned what a round tuit is.
Best coated with tartan paint from specialty hardware shops.......

Thank you for the drill press chart. Very useful resource!

I'm going to have a test on how to work a drill press and this DEF helped me out!!
Yup, thats WOOD!!
thank you Craig.
The drum sander and wing cutter make me want to go out and buy a drill press right NOW!!! Saved and subscribed!!!
Thank you for drum sand tip !
Thanks for sharing your video. I enjoyed watching. Take care and God Bless.
I got the same drill press but missing the top belt cover...so thanks a lot for belt diagram!

I really enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Aren't safety glasses always a best practice?
Very good instructional video! Thanks
Very helpful; thank you. On my wish list.
Thank you.
I’m trying to use a 2” forester bit. Which drill press would I need? My Ryobi is not powerful enough
Great tutorial.
Fantastic I will look out for more videos your mag is not available in the UK ❔❔👍👍👍👍

Very well done. I would however like to see you use safety glasses as they are very important when using any kind of tool.
And he has taken off the safety guard from the chuck- what is he thinking of ??
My woodshop teacher always tells us this
Live a little!
Muy buen video, gracias por compartir
Hi. Do you think that a 1/4 hp drill press is strong enough to cutting 4 inches circles with a hole saw on a 1/2 inch board. Thanks in advance.

Nice video that I would use in the classroom. However the use of safety glasses in the video was not shown.
can someone explain to me how to drill a 4mm hole in a wooden stick that is 1cm in diameter and 10cm long

Some ideas here: www.woodmagazine.com/search?q=drill+dowel
Go the Bribie Woodcrafters 😀
What about forsener bits
Why is a big machine shaking that much?
It wasn't shaking
Woodworking class sent me here

Not enough torque to run the wing cutter

power and accuracy. He said that in the video.

@@juliemandell A 450W drill press and a set of good Forstner bits... for Christmas, please :-) Never used a router.
You`re missing common sense when you think a cordless drill can do what a drill press does.
doing this for school lol like this and reply if u are to what state me wisco
That's dank, same
Do yall know what he does wrong during the video? it is a general saftey rule?
What
@@babyoil00 I was just asking a question
