This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

The hole in the centre of the bolt head would be much easier and accurate if you put the centre bit on the lower chuck and the bolt was spinning on the drill, like you marked the spot.
That is how a lathe works
No. It is the same in this case because both the drill bit and the drill piece are cylindrical in nature and their centers of gravity lie on their vertical axis and their axis aligns with the chuck axis.
When you spin something, it's best if the center of gravity is at the middle or a long the spinning axis. Or else, the piece will try to escape due to centrifugal force.
In case of a lathe, the piece is always cylindrical in nature so that it will spin smoothly along with the chuck. The cutting tools of a lathe is not always axial symmetry so it must not spin.
English is not my first language and it's difficult for me to explain the physics so I hope you understand.

Dear Daniele Tartaglia, I watch your videos with interest. In this video, in the part of drilling a hole in the center of a bolt, I was thinking that you would attach the bolt to the drill and the drill bit to the fixed chuck on the stand, as in the promotional image of the video. I'm not as professional as you, but when you do it the way you do, no matter how much you fine-tune it, it becomes off-center. I think better results can be achieved when you connect the part to be drilled to the drill or rotating equipment, as in a lathe. Kind regards.

Complimenti per l'ennesimo video utile per gli appassionati di fai da te. Volevo chiederti che hard disk usi, poiché da quelli che ho smontato io non è possibile staccare il rotore. Si tratta di modelli particolari o c'è sempre la possibilità di staccarsi il rotore?
non sempre puoi staccare il motore, in realtà capita soprattutto nei modelli vecchi, adesso più facilmente li trovi integrati nel telaio

@@lorenzosalerno2058 nono francamente non so dirti se ci siano delle marche che prediligono il motore riportato ma più probabilmente è una questione di costo (il motore integrato non smontabile costa sicuramente meno ai produttori) quando vai in fiera a comperare gli hard disk per questo uso (naturalmente roba usata e malfunzionante: da quelle bancarelle che vendono "roba da testare, nessuna garanzia") prova ad osservare se vedi le tre viti a 120° attorno al motore ( sempre che il circuito sia abbastanza corto da permetterlo) mi pare di ricordare che in alcuni modelli le viti sono passanti e quindi dovresti riuscire a vedere i fori filettati

Hai ragione, ma se usato in modo verticale e perpendicolare, anche il multistrato va bene. Avrei potuto usare l' alluminio, ma ho preferito usare materiale più economico. 😜

5:38 Hey guys, for #2... Does anyone know what size bolt he's dropping down inside the chuck?? 3/8 maybe?? I have a 1/2 chuck I'm trying to attach to the table, but not sure what size to use (the 1/2 course thread bolts at the store didn't work).
I saw another video where he put the bolt from below the table, and threaded it UP into the chuck (not drop the bolt inside the chuck). That method seems more secure. Thanks for any help!
I have discovered through trial and error the size of the bolt that fits into the 1/2 chuck is a 1/4" bolt.

Why use the center punch? Defeats the purpose of centering the chuck and the use of a center drill.... ;)
Precisely! Most of what is shown in this video would not be a problem if you didn't cheap out on your drill press, which isn't hard since even i was able to buy a very sturdy and heavy 220V vintage press for half the price of what is sold as "professional" these days. It even manages to be heavier than pretty much all cheap floor presses being sold right now despite it just being a bench press.

Never ever drill steel on top of wood as it allows the metal to get hotter than it would if it were sitting on clod plate .The drill bits burn off the tipp hardened edge very quickly .If you are drilling alot of holes .Just mix a cup of luke warm water with a tablespoon of dish soap and two spoons of cooking oil .Mix with a good shake and use a spray bottle as you drill .It will even prolong the life of cheap drill bits.50 years at stainless steel boat chandlery and it is wonderious as it means you wont get infected from the water oil mix whan u use soap,

You could also just squirt a little WD40 on the bit if you’re drilling a piece of steel sitting on a wood platform bro.
No as I stated never use wood to support and the mix I mentioned above is what all pro workshops use .All oils on their own are lubricants, meaning they reduce friction between metals (that includes WD40)For example say you use oil to cut metal with a hacksaw .It will prolong the life the life of the blade as there is reduced friction and so reduced cutting for the same reason, So try any oil washing up liquid and water .then try with oil .Time yourself for both methods .You will have saved your blade by cooling and cut faster by increasing friction.If someone started in my workshop I would normally set tasks for them without any method implied .If someone grabbed a piece of wood and oil I'd wouldn't pay engineer's rate ,It armature.

Should use an engineering Vise for holding metal plate when drilling.

Only a fool wears gloves around rotating equipment,,,,,and don;t fall for the "tear away:" BS,,,,It will pull your hand in as they are tearing away and anything weak enough to rip away is not strong enough to protect your hand from much of anything..
Loose the gloves or loose a finger, Better to have a couple of stitches in your thumb then not to have a thumb to get stitches in. ,,,,, and yes, Even a baby Harbor Freight drill press has enough power and inertia to tear you thumb right off your hand,

Cheap staff! Completely unprofessional. Using gloves while using drill, he.may get an accident, using a drill bit not sharpen properly (it cuts only on one side), using an inappropriate drill bit for wood, using an inappropriate drill, an amateur just looking for UA-cam watchers.

I wear one time gloves for drilling long time ago. I was 15 y. This pain I remember for present day. Drilling machine wasn't strong but I was stand twisted in chinese 15. For maschining newer use gloves. Cutted skin is better dan 4 fingers from 5.
